While most Ghosts stay invisible the new Frauscher 1212 Ghost will shed its shroud and will wow guests with an evolution of the Frauscher design language that is both bold and beautiful. Along with other Frauscher models the 1212 Ghost features distinctive elements like the huge teak deck, frameless and tinted windscreen as well a straight bow design. The side air intakes – first featured on the 747 Mirage and then on the 1414 Demon – are further developed and give the side profile a very distinctive look. The back features a swooping design framing the generous teak bathing platform in spectacular fashion. Frauscher also sets new standards in the handling department: The driver sits exactly in the center line of the boat for a perfect view around the boat. The ergonomic helm design features a bow thruster as standard and an optional Joystick operation system. The displays and instruments are recessed to give a better view even in direct sunlight. The deep-V hull is a development of the innovations used on the 1414 Demon and the 858 Fantom – 2 boats known for their sensational handling and rough water abilities – and features two distinctive steps to push the boat onto plane faster and to accommodate a smooth and dry ride. Powered by twin sterndrive Mercruiser petrol engines with 430 HP each or twin sterndrive Volvo Penta D6-440 diesel engines the boat offers a range of up to 300 miles with its 850 liter fuel tank. Other technical details feature a standard fold-out anchor system which gives the captain complete control and view of the anchoring process without the need to leave the helm station. A warm water boiler, AC for the cabin, Diesel generator, high JL-Audio sound and ice maker are optional whereas a foldable Bimini top, full teak decking and fridges are standard. The three teak tables – two in the cockpit and one in the cabin – are all retractable and convert into beds. The cabin features a surprisingly spacious bathroom with sink, toilet and shower as well as a unique interior design with lots of indirect lighting. It was time to haulout Jovial from the ocean to do some routine work like antifoul, polishing, oil change on z-drives as well as cleaning and rust removal, etc. I also got my anchor and the chain regalvanized - super nice and cheap.

I was anchoring off Asahan in southwestern Lombok near Gili Gede and unfortunately had my anchor and chain wrapped in a few liner underwater. I therefore had to freedive down to release the anchor.

I finally got the sunfish repaired enough to take out on the water. The wind was very good and the Neuse River had decent waves. I set out from Oriental North Carolina and had a phenomenal sail. I got REALLY wet a few times and definitely tested the boat out again on a MAIDEN VOYAGE of sorts as it hasn't been in the water in years. I used to sail this boat a lot as a kid and have countless hours of fun on it. We spent 10 days in Maumere, on the north coast of Flores Island. Strange place, very scared of covid and by default now, white people. To be allowed to go ashore we both had to do a rapid test and mine came back reactive. This meant we had to do another quarantine aboard Schiehallion until the results of a PCR test came back. We were finally cleared and got to do some actually sightseeing by going up to Kelimutu, the volcano with 3 lakes. Enjoy. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach in Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony with our 4 kids, just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. Winner of the 2020 Rolex Middle Sea Race - Elusive 2 At 1500 CEST, Thursday 22nd October, the Royal Malta Yacht Club were satisfied no one out on the course could surpass Elusive 2. As winners of last year’s Rolex Middle Sea Race, by winning the 41st edition, the crew of the Beneteau First 45, jointly skippered by Maya, Christoph and Aaron Podesta, had achieved something no boat had managed since 1980 - winning back to back races. The Podesta family chapter in the legend of the race, began by father Arthur back in 1968, continues to grow. The Elusive crew are an impressively tight-knit group. The preparation of their boat is detailed and exemplary. It was made more complicated this year by the need to consider social distancing and maintain family bubbles. It is a real team, each member bringing something special to the mix. So closely bound are the four main protagonists, the three Podesta siblings and the navigator, David Anastasi, that they even considered not racing at all had one of them fallen ill before the start. “It is a huge achievement to have won this race in back to back years,” enthused Christoph, clearly grappling with the enormity of their success. “It is really hard to win the race at the best of times, so winning it twice in a row is massive and something we are all going to be very proud of for a long time to come. We are sailing with our family boat, with a family team and I am struggling to find words to describe the feeling!” “It is quite surreal that we have managed to tick all the boxes to top the podium again,” confirmed Maya. “The race means a lot to us. We worked really hard preparing the boat, just as if it was any other year. We were juggling so much between work and family though, we almost did not have time to think properly about the race. Nothing comes easily and we worked very hard for it pushing, pushing, pushing.” For Aaron, too, the size of accomplishment is taking time to dawn, perhaps reflecting the exhaustion etched in his face as he stepped ashore after nearly five days at sea: “Generally, a Rolex Middle Sea Race is a mix of physical and mental toughness. Last year was a good mixture of the two. This year, the light conditions made it mentally very challenging.” “Physically it was pretty straight-forward,” continued Aaron. “There was no battling with oilskins while the boat pounds and heels, or getting in and out of a wet bunk. Mentally, though, it was super-draining. You could not relax for one minute. There were wind holes everywhere, every corner of the race had a park up. We had to really plan how we were going to get out of the holes as quick as possible.” David Anastasi commented: “This year was really interesting tactically and navigationally because of the relatively small size of the fleet and our class. Some of our usual competition did not make it, so we lacked boats to gauge ourselves against. Last year we could see our gains. So we sailed our race, were confident in our decisions, making them based upon where we were on the course rather than looking at other boats.” Despite the fatigue from the cerebral test, they clearly relished the challenge. Christoph, who was completing his 19th race, enjoys each opportunity to learn more about the course: “Every year, I keep adding new tricks and pieces of the puzzle to the notebook of the race. Hopefully I will use them in the future to make sure we do not get stuck or lose valuable time for silly mistakes.” Like his brother and sister, Christoph was delighted that they and the crew had adapted well to the circumstances of this year. “We normally have a really heavy weather piece of the race that takes it out of us,” he continued. “This year, I think all that energy was channelled into patience and calmness, keeping the boat going fast, trying to understand the weather patterns and strategic positioning on the course.” As well as being first overall in the IRC fleet, Elusive secured the veritable ‘cherry on the cake’ according to Aaron, by being first Maltese boat home on the water. Something they really had not expected at all, but being fiercely proud of their national heritage, a scalp that is valued highly.
