Exploring on land is one of the main reason I started sailing. The few days we rode our rented motorbike around Flores were really amazing and the first time in 6 moths that we slept on land. We woke up very early one morning and hiked to the top of a hill and there watched the sun come up over the terraced rice fields. Pretty mind-blowing! On the way back to Labuan Bajo later that day the rear tyre exploded and we had a bit of an adventure sorting that out! The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought is sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive and we need to lift it onto the dry ASAP to fix what is needed and start our refit. In this episode we took our chances and decided to lift our wrecked schooner that has NEVER BEEN LIFTED BEFORE!! Our whole refurbishing process is supposed to happen in the south of Brazil, but travelling there with all the leaks we had was quite risky so we decided to lift it.
