This episode was filmed in 11 / 2020. — Welcome to Untie The Lines! my name is Nike, I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, I help my friend Maria with some of the maintanance of her 72 foot steel sailboat Joana. Rust is the constant enemy of any steel boat owner, so we are chipping away on some of her chainplates and give them some fresh coats of primer and paint and we weld shut some holes that have formed from water sitting alongside the edge of a piece of wood mounted against the steel. Between boat jobs, we get a lovey visit from some jolly friends from the neighboring island Isla de Rey who bring laughter and joy to Joana. Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl

It’s tempting to think we’re cursed. After our boat was struck by lighting, we thought Mother Nature might go easy on us for a while. No such luck. After leaving the boat on the hard in Florida, we drove up to the Midwest to put some miles between us and the hurricane season threatening the Atlantic seaboard. We prepared Soulianis as best we could, but as Hurricane Dorian began obliterating the northern Bahamas and with Florida appearing to be next, we couldn’t help but think we’d be forced to say goodbye to our boat. A month later, while visiting family in Wisconsin, a tornado drew a path of destruction right through Lauren’s sister’s property, toppling trees and tearing the roof off of her neighbor’s garage and smashing it into her front yard — all while we hid under basement stairs. What a strange series of events… Are we cursed? Does Mother Nature have it out for us? Come along for the crazy ride. This week we are painting and redoing the paint and nonskid on the coach roof. We used AlexSeal primer and top coat in the shade Cloud White to paint the boat. We touch briefly on the application in the video, but we want to reiterate how well the roll additive worked for us and we wouldn't do it again without it. After dodging weather and sweating in the summer heat we are left with a finished product that we couldn't be happier with. We continue to make our voyage south from Port Annapolis to the Carolinas with our Sailing Catamaran! So far the journey has been amazing with ample first hand experiences! This week we break out the Sairite sewing machine and get it adjusted and lubricated after it sat for 2 years in a locker on the boat. We make a simple hatch cover and I hope this shows you some good projects you can do. Don't be afraid to get into a sewing project. Após muita insistência deixei o Vitor ir à proa levantar a trinqueta. Vejam que o "charuto" da genoa enrolada, criava forte turbulência que tirava todo vento da vela fazendo ela panejar muito, com risco de rasgar. Não foi preciso filar o barco no vento. Estávamos numa orça folgada e só enrolamos a genoa na sombra da trinqueta.
