This time on Sailing Intermission lots of grinding, tacking and wind. We had some great sailing and continued our interview with Dawn and Joe. Did more sailing with the first semi-competitive event of the season. A little too much wind, we choose to not reef at 24 knots and ripped our main sail. Yes, we came in last again. Better sailors than racers, what do y’all think? Thank you to our subscribers! Bigger is better what a cliche right? Or is it? In this video, I'm telling you briefly why I don't want a wind vane and some other things most long-distance sailors do differently from me. I dare to share with you my point of view and also my journey in a genuine and honest way. The answers might surprise you, but then again this was the biggest advantage old Vikings had :-) Thank you for watching and hope you enjoy this video! You can also follow sailing with Thomas on other platforms for almost daily updated pics and videos: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingwiththomas Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sailingwiththomas ABOUT THIS CHANNEL: I'm trying to sail around the world in my Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever I have time for it. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now. Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since. PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS! I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

Two years ago, we started uploading videos on a regular basis. It changed everything for us, and it's been an overwhelmingly positive experience. In this episode we talk about how we make the videos, the equipment we use, our collaborative process, and at the end we talk hard numbers...including how much we have made from YouTube. You might be surprised. Is it realistic to expect a YouTube channel can support themselves with videos? Also featured are our friends Alejo and Andrea of Living Hakuna fame. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is!. Much love

Dominic from San Francisco talks about the Tiwal 3. 00:00 Introduction 00:12 Which Tiwal model do you have? 00:21 Where do you sail? 01:03 How do you use your Tiwal? 01:31 What was your experience before Tiwal? 02:09 Which characteristics did surprise you? 02:59 What's your best memory with your Tiwal? 03:16 Where would you dream to sail your Tiwal? -------------------------- ** The Tiwal 3 Sailboat ** The Tiwal 3 inflatable sailing dinghy comes in two bags that are easily transportable by car, boat and even by plane. This small inflatable sailboat is easily assembled in 20 minutes without any tools. Easy to handle, its sailing qualities will give you a thrilling experience. Very responsive, stable, and comfortable in light winds, the Tiwal 3 is dynamic in more challenging conditions. Whether you’re sailing solo or double-handed, it is perfect for your adventures at sea or on a lake! Boat of the Year Award | Best Innovation | by Sailing World U.S.A. "The thing was a blast. I couldn't believe how well it sailed. You could have some serious fun with this, especially in big breeze." -------------------------- ** The Tiwal story ** * The Birth of Tiwal * As a girl, the first time our founder Marion Excoffon was told, “No!” by her father when she asked to use the family boat, her life as an inventor began. It was then she started dreaming of building her own craft, an ambitious feat that would come true years later. On the road to creating an innovative high-speed vessel for everyone from kids and first timers to expert sailors who want to test limits, there were a number of prototypes, failures, challenges and headaches. But, if there’s one thing Marion’s known for, it’s her sailor’s grit! * Combining Fun & Technology * The award winning Tiwal concept is easy assembly and storage - maximum fun and performance for watersports and activities. A Tiwal isn’t your average dinghy! Our design is the result of tons of coordination, talent, and technological savvy. * A Growing Global Community * For our community of Tiwal skippers (more than 2,500 worldwide!) all this innovative design means their focus is fixed on the pleasures of watersports and having tons of fun on a responsive sailing craft. With excellent upwind and downwind abilities combined with high-speeds, Tiwals are a part of both fun and professional performance. The Tiwal 3 received the Boat of the Year (Best innovation) Award 2014 from Sailing World in the USA and the Red Dot Award, with recognitions, accolades, and smiling faces continuing to join together on the waves worldwide.

Convict Lake got its name from a deadly gun battle in 1871. 29 convicts escaped from the Nevada prison in Carson City and fled to the lake area. A Pony Express rider happened upon them camped at the lake and he was murdered. The sheriff and his posse pursued the escaped convicts to the lake and a deadly shootout ensued. Two of the posse members were killed as well as several of the escaped convicts. Eventually all 29 convicts were either killed at the lake or executed after they were captured. Two of the peaks at Convict Lake are named for the slain posse members.

Any chance to visit the boat is a good one! I drove to the marina and took a look around over a couple of days. I wanted to find the best place to mount my tablet holder (we don't have a chartplotter yet, so it's a tablet with Navionics!) and our new VHF Radio (it has built-in GPS so that's handy). This also seemed like a good time to check the chain locker, since it's cold and the chances of getting swarmed by wasps is greatly reduced in winter (There were nests there in the summer). Clearly, this is an area of the boat that needs to be cleaned out while we pay out all the rode to check the condition of the links and connections. And at the end of the day, I do enjoy any time aboard! I cite @Cruising Off Duty in this video, and their episode "Trapped in Toronto" (getting the anchor stuck off the Toronto Islands) definitely had our attention...and got us seriously thinking about a set of bolt cutters as essential equipment! This highly anticipated model is the first yacht designed by the highly sought-after Patricia Urquiola. Reflecting Sanlorenzo’s ability to embrace new ideas while still remaining faithful to its long heritage that led to the creation of this new Sanlorenzo SD96, the Sanlorenzo SD96 is an entry-level model in Sanlorenzo’s historic semi-displacement SD yacht line. The interior of this 28-metre model was entrusted to Patricia Urquiola, one of the most sought-after women in global design, thanks to her ability to combine beauty and comfort. The collaboration between Patricia Urquiola is also a historic milestone for the nautical world – this is the first time Urquiolo has worked in the world of yachts and will add a special feminine touch to the interior, something that has previously been missing from Sanlorenzo yachts. In addition to the flowing spaces and distinctive style which combines minimalist approach effortlessly, this Sanlorenzo SD96 is also a well thought out yacht that, like all Sanlorenzo designs, redefines the concept of space on board. It is sure to be a highly sought after addition to the Sanlorenzo range.
