Un mese in Perù tra la Valle Sacra, Machu Picchu e Laguna Humantay: Machu Picchu non è tutto, ed è uno dei motivi per cui continuo a tornare in Perù. 🇵🇪 Dopo Qoyllurit'i mi sentivo sereno, in pace. Ho dedicato le ultime settimane a viaggiare e a capire cosa il Perù avesse ancora da dirmi. In questo capitolo del mio viaggio in Perù torno nella Valle Sacra, tra i luoghi che mi piacciono di più: Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray e Maras. Poi arrivo a Machu Picchu, una delle sette meraviglie del mondo, e salgo fino alla montagna Wayna Picchu. Chiudo il mio mese in Perù con un ultimo trekking in quota alla Laguna Humantay, a circa 4.200 metri, passando prima da Mollepata, il paesino da cui proveniva mio nonno materno. Perchè continuo a tornare in Perù: Ogni volta che torno osservo, scopro e imparo qualcosa di nuovo su questo paese, sul suo popolo e sulla sua cultura. Il Perù mi insegna. Nuestro viaje nos lleva a Benalmádena, en plena Costa del Sol, para conocer a las personas, escuelas, clubes e instituciones que hacen posible que la pasión por la navegación a vela siga creciendo generación tras generación. Y tendremos la oportunidad de conocer una de las modalidades más espectaculares de la vela deportiva: ¡el iQFOiL! 🏆 ANTONIO MEDINA: LA VELA QUE VUELA SOBRE EL AGUA Uno de los grandes protagonistas de este capítulo es Antonio Medina, campeón de España de iQFOiL, una modalidad olímpica de windsurf que ha revolucionado la navegación a vela. A diferencia del windsurf tradicional, el iQFOiL utiliza un hidroala o foil que permite elevar la tabla sobre la superficie del agua, reduciendo la resistencia y alcanzando velocidades extraordinarias. Ver a estos deportistas navegar es impresionante. Pero detrás de esa velocidad hay mucho más: preparación física, conocimiento del viento, equilibrio, técnica, entrenamiento y años de aprendizaje. Durante nuestra conversación con Antonio Medina nos acercamos a una disciplina que representa la evolución de la vela deportiva y demuestra hasta dónde pueden llegar quienes convierten su pasión por el mar en una forma de vida. Porque la vela no consiste únicamente en aprovechar el viento. También consiste en aprender a interpretarlo, comprenderlo y utilizarlo para avanzar. ⛵ ESCUELAS DE VELA: DONDE COMIENZA LA PASIÓN POR NAVEGAR No todos los navegantes aspiran a convertirse en campeones. Algunos simplemente quieren descubrir la sensación de navegar impulsados por el viento. Otros buscan aprender a manejar una embarcación, ganar autonomía, disfrutar del Mediterráneo o compartir experiencias con otros aficionados. En este capítulo conocemos también el papel fundamental de las escuelas de vela infantiles, los clubes de navegación y la formación náutica. Desde los primeros contactos de los niños con una embarcación hasta la práctica de la vela deportiva y la navegación de recreo, existe todo un recorrido de aprendizaje que permite acercar el mar a personas de diferentes edades y niveles. Las escuelas y los clubes náuticos no solo enseñan a navegar. También transmiten conocimientos sobre seguridad marítima, meteorología, trabajo en equipo, respeto al medio marino, responsabilidad y convivencia. Y, sobre todo, ayudan a crear nuevas generaciones de navegantes. ⚓ PUERTO DE BENALMÁDENA: UN PUNTO DE ENCUENTRO CON EL MEDITERRÁNEO Nuestro recorrido también nos lleva al **Puerto Deportivo de Benalmádena, Puerto Marina, uno de los enclaves náuticos más conocidos de Málaga y de la Costa del Sol. Allí conversamos con Irene Bruzón, directora del puerto de Benalmádena, para conocer la importancia de estas instalaciones en el desarrollo de la actividad náutica. Los puertos deportivos son mucho más que lugares donde atracan embarcaciones. Son espacios de encuentro entre navegantes, escuelas, clubes, profesionales del sector y personas que desean acercarse al mar. También forman parte de la actividad turística, deportiva y económica del litoral malagueño. En este capítulo queremos mostrar esa otra cara de los puertos: su relación con la enseñanza, el deporte, la cultura marítima y las oportunidades que ofrecen para descubrir la navegación. 🌊 LA SENDA INVISIBLE: EL VIENTO QUE NOS CONECTA ¿Por qué hemos titulado este capítulo «La senda invisible»? Porque existe algo que conecta a todos los protagonistas de esta historia, aunque no podamos verlo. El viento. Es el mismo viento que impulsa una pequeña embarcación de escuela, que permite navegar a un velero de crucero y que hace posible que un deportista de iQFOiL se eleve sobre el agua. Howdy folks! Welcome back to Nomad Boat Building. My name is Mark Reuten, and we're picking up where we left off on the Poulsbo Boat Project. With the inwales and thwart risers glued up, it's time to fair them out and get ready for planking. There's a lot of material to remove, some tricky twists to follow, and a few places where the grain isn't making life easy. In this episode, I show how I use a batten to establish fair lines across the moulds, then work through the rough shaping with a slick before switching to hand planes and a longboard for finer adjustments. I'll also show why checking for bumps and hollows with a batten is an important final step. Along the way, we take a closer look at Alaskan yellow cedar, work around some awkward grain, and discuss a transom layout issue that I may have to solve as the build progresses. The original Poulsbo boat was a sport fishing boat built by Ronald Young in Washington using traditional carvel plank construction. Where did everybody go?! We're back in beautiful Warm Springs Bay on Baranof Island in Southeast Alaska, and something is very different this time. Just a few weeks ago, the docks were packed with boats and people enjoying the hot springs. Now, we've practically got the whole place to ourselves! And we can't quite figure out why everyone leaves when it's still so beautiful here. We spend nine wonderful days aboard Alaskan Gypsy, enjoying the quiet fall season, soaking in the public hot tubs overlooking the bay, hiking through the rainforest, searching for blueberries, and visiting the incredible natural hot springs beside a roaring river. We also take our little skiff exploring through a narrow, rocky passage into a sheltered bay. With the tide dropping, we have to keep an eye on the water if we want to make it back out! There's plenty of rain, a little sunshine, some beautiful scenery, and lots of laughs along the way. We love exploring Southeast Alaska outside the busy summer season, and Warm Springs Bay is one of those places that keeps drawing us back. Dang, dang, dang!!! Isabella’s packing gland needs to be adjusted and our journey to Texas is now delayed. Steve’s been soaking the lock nut for the packing gland so that it can be loosened easily. The issue is that should that break or there start to be a leak; a whole lot of water would come rushing in and potentially sink the boat. Our current marina would be unable to pull us out of the water if that emergency situation should arise. We have an appointment at a larger marina early next week. Hopefully, this can be done quickly with Isabella still in the water and we can set another departure date soon. It’s not the Atlantic but we did take the dinghy out on the water. Karen pumped up the three chambers. It was great that the Mercury outboard started right up and out we went. Steve even revved the motor enough that we caused a small wake. Very small. On the starboard side of Isabella, we have a composite board support for jerry cans. After buying a few more cans, we added support on the port side. It’s pressure treated wood and may only be a temporary addition. However, now all the extra fuel can be safely secured onboard. We are taking the extra few days to locate additional anchorages and marinas with fuel docks that are accessible along the way on our move to Texas. Many of the channels are deep enough for us to navigate but sometimes the area getting to them is too shallow. Additionally, many of the anchorages and marina approaches are too shallow. Isabella has a 7-foot draft and we like to have at least 9 to 10 feet of water under her. We use the information on Waterway Guide to make a list and double check it with our chart plotters’ and other websites. Thank you for being with us and sharing our adventure. We live aboard S/V Isabella, a Super Mikado 56 built in France by C.N.S.O. (Constructions Nautiques du Sud-Ouest). Isabella is a 1990/2010 sailing ketch with four private cabins, an engine room, a salon, a galley, and three heads with two separate shower stalls. Her fiberglass hull is designed for bluewater cruising, with an excellent capsize ratio of 1.68 and a very good comfort ratio of 42.19. She is equipped with Garmin and Raymarine electronics and hydraulic steering. Isabella was designed by naval architect Michel Bigoin, who also designed Phocea. Built in 1976, the 246-foot, four-masted steel schooner was considered the world’s largest private sailing yacht until 2004.
