We leave the mainland and head out for our longest sail, so far. We sail from Lagos, Portugal to Isla Graciosa. A sail with very little wind, we catch our first fish and get our share of the infamous acceleration zones at Canary Islands. We are Thomas and Petra and late August 2020 we left Sweden and started our sail towards the Caribbean. With this videos you will be able to tag along on our adventure. More recent updates from our trip can be found on our instagram: @sailingannemon or blog: sailingannemon.com. Happy Easter everyone! So back out on the high seas we have an uncertain weather forecast with primarily contrary winds, so I look for an anchorage in the Bahamas to wait it out. I find a nice spot in the Berry Islands which also enables me to catch up on sleep and make some repairs on the boat. As I am remaining in quarantine, I am boat-bound for the duration of the stay. In this episode we take you with us on our final dive to get PADI certified. What a fantastic time we had learning to scuba dive officially, now the only thing stopping us is the amount of air we can carry on board. We dive in the clear waters of the Aegean sea in Mirabello Bay, Crete. We meet up with one of the areas local residents, Ieda, a 30 year old Grouper, who brings along a few of her family members. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you found it informative or entertaining please give it a thumbs as it helps get YouTube to promote it outside of the existing subscribers. Support Joachim https://paypal.me/vernondeck?locale.x... The Family that Dared is the story of the Campe Family who sold everything they owned, built a boat and set off on an adventure none of them would forget. This might sound all too common but the family did it in 1977! This is the 4th of 12 episodes that Joachim Campe filmed. They were all shot on 16mm film and have not ben seen since airing on German TV in 1984. Joachim, now 83 is very close to finishing another Circumnavigation aboard St Michel, the very same boat that the family sailed on four decades ago. His health has let him down and he is currently recuperating in Lombok, Indonesia and could use your support to get him sailing again. MANY thanks to all our amazing patrons, http://bit.ly/BB-Patreon, that really go above and help make these videos possible. Ep 151 Statia has made quite the impression on us. We are happily floating out here in our new home away from home with our buds on Sailing One Life. We are celebrating Brooke’s birthday with a homemade crepe bar and some mocktails before we hit the underwater world. Wreck dives are something we were unable to do really while we were just freediving, so scuba diving has opened up the door to these underwater wonders. Wrecks are a big part of creating artificial reefs, giving home to coral and loads of marine life that otherwise didn’t have refuge previously. And for several unexpected surprises that you will have to tune in to see! Thank you to all of our amazing supporters. We will always be better because of you all. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 22 In this episode Ben comes back from the future just to clarify something, we share massive spoilers, we finally introduce our wood of choice and we get building! Frames, planks, floor timbers... so much has happened! We hope you enjoy watching it! Xx ༄ We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Declan has been promoted to skipper. His job is to take us in to whale country, Hervey Bay, the humpback whale capital of the world. However, the whales are being elusive, until we discovered a lone humpback, happily fin slapping his way into the evening. Wonderful! Music Tyler Brown Williams – Never stop – Musicbed.com Tyler Brown Williams – Never stop instrumental – Musicbed.com Chptrs – Obvious _Musicbed.com WHO ARE WE? In 1997, after missing out on his Olympic rowing medal dream, Rob decided to row a tiny seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014, and married with three children we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 18, Declan 16 and Ivan 13, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Kerry and two friends were attacked by a Khmer Rouge gun boat, captured, tortured and executed. ***** Follow us in real time on Instagram and Facebook @thecruisingkiwis @finn_hamill @declan_hamill #NeverStopWanderingNeverStopWondering. #TheCruisingKiwis
What We Learned as a Couple Living Full Time on a Boat; The Good & The Bad | Harbors Unknown Ep. 25 7 months. We’ve been living aboard our catamaran Wanderlust for 7 months. If you'd like to see more of our life on board check out this playlist. https://bit.ly/2PWfpF4 It has been a period of adjustment. Learning, discomfort, growth, frustration, joy, accomplishment and excitement for the adventure that’s right around the corner. A veritable seesaw of emotions. But most importantly we feel alive. We are fully experiencing life and immersing ourselves in the beautiful world around us and that’s all we can ask for. And we’re sharing our journey with you. To inspire you to live life with intention. Each day that passes is one less that we have to live our dreams. And so we have chosen a life of adventure. We don’t know what your dreams are but whatever they are, we encourage you to pursue them. One small step at a time. An alternative lifestyle is within reach. Whether it’s on a boat or in a van or in different short term rentals around the world. The life you’ve dreamed of is waiting for you. The most important thing we’ve learned is to manage our resources. Fuel for cooking, water for showering, and drinking, waste, and space and of course internet access. Rethinking simple everyday tasks like laundry or grocery shopping. Through this we’ve realized a closer connection with the environment, how each action impacts the earth, and how we can minimize our footprint. While everyday tasks that you barely even think of in a traditional lifestyle have become things we need to be mindful of. We are rewarded with incredible beauty, peace and most of all fulfillment and the knowledge that we’re making the most of our time here. And time, that’s the most precious resource of all. It would really help us if you’d give this video a thumbs up, leave us a comment down below, subscribe, and share it with a friend. We’ll see you next week. If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin and Fabio Potenti, and our French Bulldog dog Yoda. We sold our home at the beginning of the pandemic (May 27th, 2020) and moved aboard our #Seawind1600 #catamaran, Wanderlust, in September. We plan to sail her to Harbors Unknown, and explore the world’s vast cultures through food, a common thread amongst people everywhere. Connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how those dishes can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. We share the adventures of #boatlife and how it’s possible to live an #alternativelifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment. Until we officially begin our world voyage, we’re exploring the beautiful waters of #SouthFlorida and the Florida Keys. Subscribe now to join our #sailingadventure. SOLD! Congratulations and safe travels to the new owners. Nordhavn 60 - Paradise Found has securely toured two different owner couples up and down the US west coast in comfort, safety, and style. Jeff Merrill was involved with this build from the start, working with the original owners to place their order, helping them to create a very well thought out, personalized 60. Jeff’s experience getting aboard and reviewing multiple new and used sisterships (55 and 60) with his trained eyes to look for the best features and selections, led to many improvements, both subtle and significant. Many of these upgraded touches are revealed in this video. Being a later hull in the series, she has an improved layout. The entry level features and open saloon with large windows connecting to the galley which then transitions in to the owner cabin. One of the best improvements was the creation of the VIP island berth stateroom forward. The interior has traditional vertical grain teak with a honey color that has aged harmoniously. There are edge bound carpets protecting the teak and spruce soles and a rich dark granite was installed on the counters. Additional décor touches like the shade of the upholstery and color of the curtains show off her warm and luxurious accommodations. There are two staterooms, each with a private head and shower, along with a captain’s cabin and day head in the pilothouse provide plenty of sleeping accommodations. The saloon has a settee to port with a large teak fixed table opposite two Ekornes recliner chairs and the flat screen television is on a built-in lift. The galley is well supplied for preparing and serving meals. The raised pilothouse is controlled via a comfortable Stidd helm chair with all necessary navigation and communication in sight and reach. Below the forward guest stateroom is a large basement. Taking the stairs down from the entry level you arrive in the utility room with top load freezer and laundry appliances. The engine room has enough height that you can lean over a bit to get to both Luggers, as you head aft to the lazarette (water maker, batteries and air conditioning units) you pass the Northern Lights generator. On deck, a level foredeck with easily deployed ground tackle is backed by the Portuguese bridge. You can travel to the aft deck along the starboard side or visit the boat deck to port. The dinghy is an aluminum bottom rigid inflatable with steering seat and console that is launched from the Steelhead crane. Up top, the flybridge has a fiberglass Bimini top, two helm chairs and bench seating with a table. Traveling afloat on a well-appointed, high-end, and custom crafted house that can travel anywhere with deep water is one of the most compelling aspects of owning a Nordhavn 60 like Paradise Found. Seeing this Nordhavn 60 in person will prove to you the care and attention that has been continuously bestowed with affection and appreciation. They say bad things come in threes.... In this episode we once again find ourselves needing a tow from one of our buddies, SV Avalon. We are becalmed off Cape May NJ after a rough sail in near gale force winds and a malfunctioning engine. We attempt to start sailing up the Delaware Bay but the fickle breeze just isn't allowing us to make progress. Luckily Andy Boy (Avalon) is right there and drops us a tow line. Avalon at 55ft, is an absolute beast. We are flying up the bay under tow seeing speeds in the 7-8 knots range! Bill wants to drop the anchor to prevent chafe on the tow line but the windless is also broken, UGH. Unfortunately we cannot complete the tow to the next sheltered bay before night fall. As luck would have it a dense fog also descends. Since tonights stop is known to have many fishings pots we opt to drop the tow line and tie up along Avalon's hip. This way if Avalon snags a pot and comes to dead stop we will not collide. We make it safely to anchor and settle in for a good night sleep. The next day Bill and Andy dig into the engine to try and get it up and running. They find a faulty sea strainer and temporally bypass it so we can limp to Annapolis. Bill also finds a bad connection in the windless remote and repairs it. We complete the journey \ to Annapolis without issue and happy to be reunited with good friends up arrival. Our friend (and Patron) Jeff comes zooming out in his Boston Whaler to greet us. Also onboard are Matt and Jessica (MJ Sailing), long time friends that we haven't seen since the summer of 2018 in the Azores. What a relief to be safely in Annapolis in the company of great friends! 0:00 Intro 1:19 Recap 1:50 Attempting to sail up the Delaware Bay 2:35 Another tow, Avalon to the Rescue 3:23 Now a broken Windless… 4:50 Preparing to transfer to hip tow to enter the harbor 7:50 entering Cohansey Cove on a moonless, foggy night 9:30 Engine Diagnosis 11:10 Engine’s fixed, time to head to the Chesapeake 14:00 Finally in the Chessy time to relax a bit 14:20 Finally back in Annapolis and reunited with our buddies from MJ Sailing -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Thanks to our Patrons!
