Juni 2020: vom Stadhafen Sucuraj motoren wir zur Marina Palmizana, weiter Richtung Brac segeln wir genau an der Gewitter-Grenze entlang. Ankern in einer tollen Bucht, bekommen Delphine ganz nah zu sehen und nutzen die leere ACI Marina Split Gewitter ab Minute 3:24 Delphine ab Minute 8:54 Teil 2: wir starten am Mittwoch vom Stadthafen Sucuraj Richtung ACI Marina Palmizana und sehen Delphine. Donnerstag segeln wir genau an der Gewitter-Grenze Richtung Split. Da dann das Gewitter aber ebenso Richtung Split zog, segelten wir spontan noch mal in die Smrka-Bucht nach Brac und genossen einen sonnigen Badestop, während es in Split hagelte! Auf dem Weg Richtung Split spielte dann eine Gruppe von Delphinen lange um unser Schiff herum. Glücklich kommen wir in Split an. Teil 1: wir schlendern gemütlich durch die schöne Altstadt von Trogir und starten am Sonntag unseren Törn Richtung HVAR. Sonntag war flaute und so kehrten wir in unserer Lieblings-Konoba Ringo ein. Wir saßen als einzige Gäste auf der Außenterasse. Es war wieder sehr lecker. Obwohl wir wussten, dass der Wind gegen uns ist und nach dem Dreher zur Wochenmitte auf der Rückreise wieder gegen uns ist, machten wir uns bei 35 Kn Wind in Böen gegen den Wind Richtung Brac zum Zlatni Rat. Eigentlich wollten wir bis Sucuraj aber gegen Wind und Welle drehten wir am frühen Nachmittag nach Jelsa ab. Das Anlegen bei 20 kn Seitenwind war kein Spaß. Dass uns aber die Mitarbeiterin von dem Restaurant Mr. & Mr. Jones einen Wein anbot ( wir hatten direkt vor ihrer Türe fest gemacht), weil sie sich so über die Rückkehr von Seglern freute, war wirklich toll. Jelsa hat uns wirklich gut gefallen, obwohl es auch hier leer war. Dienstag machten wir uns weiter auf den Weg Richtung Osten nach Sucuraj. Kurz davor fanden wir noch eine wunderschöne Bucht, bei der wir den Nachmittag ankerten. Abends legten wir dann in Sucuraj an. Im Vergleicht zu der Stadt Hvar und Jelsa ist dies ein sehr vernachlässigter kleiner Hafen. Jetzt starten wir das Instandsetzungs-Projekt „Sir Shackleton Comeback“ im März 2021. Es ist ein Abenteuer, auf das wir uns einlassen. Viel Arbeit wartet auf uns, viele spannende und kritische Momente, viele kleine und große Erfolge und viele kreative Lösungen für unbekannte, unzählige Probleme. Und am Ende wartet ein neuer Anfang. In this episode (S2-E44) of The Art of Boat Building boat builder Bob Emser show how the margin boards fit next to the floorboard in the Haven 12 1/2. Installing the margin boards requires several cardboard templates to be made. In wooden boat building the margin board and floorboards make up the sole of the small yacht. The sole is constructed out black walnut board that require re-sawing and surface planing. Once the boards are fitted a mixture of danish oil is discussed and applied revealing the beauty of the black walnut wood. NOTE: I miss spoke in the video referring to boiled linseed oil as being heated. Boiled linseed oil gets it's name from the Medieval era, where linseed oil was boiled with lead oxide to promotes the hardening of the linseed oil by reacting with atmospheric oxygen. Heating shorten its drying time. Today boiled linseed oil isn't actually a heating process, but rather the practice of mixing metallic dryers with the oil to make it dry faster. Spring break is here. I am taking Bash,and Tre with me on an adventure. We plan to hit some islands along the Mississippi coast on our way home.

I discuss that the path is NOW CLEAR for getting BACK TO and ON WITH the electrical installation, which I have been SO looking forward to AND it has not left my mind since making a start with running the windlass cable! I RECYCLE (ha!) an old drill press to get the holes drilled in the 316 grade angle, to be used for supporting the galley tops; I make up a neat Rosewood block to fix in place and support a hanging bulkhead; finally put the plywood "patch" in the galley shelf boo-boo; get a bunch of battens fitted around the galley area; explain the story around getting bigger sink drainage plug & wastes, change out the main freshwater pressure pump AND get all of the supporting angle fitted for the galley tops! There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,... Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. After 2 months on the FKG dock, it was a dream to not only get off but go sailing with our new rigging and parasail. She is a beaut! But, much work had to be done to get to the point of sailing. New blocks had to be installed, two new winches, a new flip flop block on the mast, and new lines and soft shackles. In this video, you will see the installation of the rigging, some winch servicing demonstration, and finally, the sailing of the parasail. The wind gusts were over 20-25 knots so we didn’t want to push the sail too much. It took a couple of hours battling the wind to get the sock around the sail in the first place. But, it was a beautiful, sunny day so we were happy campers. We bought this sail and invested in all the rigging because our dream is to circumnavigate the globe. It was an expensive endeavor, but we are told that this sail will quickly become our favorite to use. We have a slim sail inventory in the first place. We look forward to testing her out in calmer winds. We are so thankful for the FKG rigging team who prepared the boat, for Wouter especially who was involved in all aspects of the process, and for him and Kelsey coming out on the boat to set up the sail and test it out.
