It's about a 80 mile round trip which gives me a great opportunity to see how our Bavaria C57 can be sailed single handed. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. Stuck for a year in a sailing boat on the equator has had its challenges, from the extreme heat, to living with the isolation on board. This part of Indian Ocean is beautiful but life behind the lens is not always as easy as it looks on camera. We share the reality of life on board as we explore this tropical paradise. Since borders closed around the world in March 2020 we have been unable to move far with Florence. As we are unable to sail home to England without stopping somewhere for provisions along the way, and those places have closed boarders, the safest thing for us to do was to stop here where we are on the equator, and we have been here ever since. In Part 1 of this episode, Matt and I focus once more on bulkheads number 4 and 5. Now that we've cut out the areas where the doors will be, we need to go back and add a little strength. This comes in the form of adding three sheets of fiberglass to the tops of the bulkheads - two of the 0-90 biaxel, and one of the 45-45 double biased. Lots of strength training for these bulkheads, but it will pay off loads for us later. :) Stay tuned for Part 2 where we try once more to add unidirectional fiberglass to the troughs in the fiberglass. Nous ne faisons pas de quart, nous mettons le minuteur toutes les heures et laissons nos appareils être, de nuit, nos yeux ! Blacky fait tout pour nous tranquilliser, imperturbable, il avale les milles … Son balancement est plus régulier, le Benguela est dépassé et même si quelques vagues un peu plus ardentes que les autres essaient encore de protester, mes nausées ont disparues ! À midi, nous avons progressé de 155,8 milles, 20º04'250 sud, 07º11'118 est. Les exocets tristement péris dans nos filets ont été testés en amorce sur nos lignes mais rien n’y fait, nous restons bredouilles ! Qu’importe, nous avons de quoi tenir deux mois à bord, et même le petit rhum de Tchoupi ne devrait pas manquer… Tous les jours, à l’heure de son sirotage, quand le soleil vient à baisser, le vent vient lui à forcir et c’est justement à cet instant que notre lion s’excite ! Comme prit d’une folie nocturne féline, il s’emballe et devant la fierté de son entraîneur, s’élance à 10 nœuds, bondit à 11, file à 12, pour atteindre des surfs à 15,7 nœuds… Quatrième jour, 21 mars, nous avons parcouru 618,8 milles, 154,7 milles par jour, une moyenne bien honorable qui nous approche de Sainte Helene, maintenant à moins de cinq jours si nous maintenons notre vitesse. Mon capitaine est furieux, son application Weather 4D, ne lui permet plus de réceptionner sa météo par iridium, nous avons été débités de huit unités pour rien ! Heureusement que dans sa prévoyance, il avait téléchargé, il y a plusieurs mois PredictWind, une application similaire. Certes, nous n’aurions pas été les premiers à traverser sans météo mais ce service est une sécurité et cela nous aurait bien cassé les pieds de ne pouvoir l’utiliser. 22 mars, 125,9 milles, 18º35'832 sud ; 02º44'911 est, le vent baisse ! Depuis tôt ce matin, Tchoupi examine les conditions, il considère nos possibilités, s’essaie en ciseau, Grand-voile et Gennaker, Gennaker et Solent dans la même position mais il faut se rendre à l’évidence, nos voiles commencent à devenir trop lourdes pour la faible énergie de l’air. En dénouement de cette affaire, une seule solution, la toile légère de notre spinnaker ! Avec lui, Blacky se laisse aller, halé par ce généreux voilage, il ondoie délicatement, et nous nous abandonnons à une léthargie hypnotique… Le soleil fait scintiller l’océan, bientôt se seront les étoiles qui s’y refléteront mais avant, la séance quotidienne de dix-huit heures nous retient ! Day One of the first SailGP in Bermuda was put forward by a day, and the results were not announced. Friday's races were played Saturday, and we have action from Day 2, Sunday, when all the action happened. Nathan Outteridge the Aussie skipper of team Japan, misjudged a Port Starboard tack, and collided the the USA boat skippered by Aussie Jimmy Spithill. He  had to retire as the shroud cut the bough of his Japanese boat. Slo-Mo of hull being cut by halyard. Then later Jimmy's Team USA capsized. Sir Ben Ainslie then defeated the Australian's and the French in the deciding race. Now on to Italy. The annual Sail Port Stephens Regatta in Australia had a big fleet happily racing in this iconic spot. Armell Le Clerk saw his 104 Foot foiling trimaran, Banque Populair Eleven, launched after a huge build programme. This is a contender for the Jules Vern round the world sailing record. The foils are all new and a huge amount of new technology went into their build. The FINN Gold Cup is coming next week to Porto in Portugal. And if you hanker for the Caribbean sailing lifestyle, then the Antigua Race Week has been rescheduled to twenty, twenty two. It's a Must-Attend event.

Estivemos ancorados no arroio Pelotas alguns dias, curtindo aquele lugar e esperando uma boa janela de tempo para ir até Rio Grande/RS. Saímos após o café da manhã e fomos motorando até a a boia de bifurcação do canal. É razoavelmente perto a navegada de Pelotas até Rio Grande, são cerca de 25NM. Decidimos não ir por Capivaras pelas condições de ondas na lagoa e também porque não tínhamos os pontos no GPS para seguir, só tínhamos o Navionics e não quisemos arriscar. No caminho para Capivaras existem as estacas (os paliteiros) e podíamos nos enroscar numa rede de pesca de camarão, o que preferimos evitar. Encontramos alguns veleiros fazendo o caminho Capivaras- Rio Grande. Chegamos no meio da tarde em Rio Grande, uma sensação muito boa chegar nessa cidade, neste grande porto que é Rio Grande. Na chegada já se avistam pesqueiros se preparando para zarpar, navios da Marinha, é um belo passeio até entrar no clube. Chamamos no rádio o Clube para as orientações de chegada que foram: acelera e entra no box porque a lagoa está baixa e se não acelerar encalha. Foi o que fizemos e deu tudo certo. Passamos alguns dias muito legais, pedalamos até os molhes de Rio Grande e também usamos as bicicletas para compras no supermercado e para comprar Diesel. Qui dit tour du monde, dit Alisés et grand bord de vent arrière. Les allures portantes en croisière sont moins tranquilles qu'on pourrait le croire. A partir du grand largue, la grand voile dévente le génois, la vitesse chute, la voile d'avant se dégonfle et se gonfle violemment usant voiles et gréements ainsi que les nerfs de l'équipage. Je vous présente dans cette vidéo une alternative au spi qui bien que plus performant et réservé au vent faible et de jour quand on navigue en équipage réduit et famillial . Daarna varen we door naar Harlingen waar onze Eva de winter zal blijven. In Harlingen halen we de zeilen van onze Eva en bereiden haar voor op de winter. Felia vertelt over haar beslissing...
