We’re building this product for the community of eSailors who want to race. The game is authentic, featuring complex sailboat mechanics & racing courses. It has depth, making it appropriate as a platform for serious VR sailing competitions. There is a meaningful progression path, requiring commitment and investment from a player, to reach the highest level of skill. The knowledge and tactics should be transferable to real sailing as much as possible. When sailors try the game, they intuitively get it, as it’s based on the real world. Having said that, it’s still a game and not a simulator. It is fun to play. We’re making this game approachable, as MarineVerse's goal is to democratize sailing. We want to enable Oculus Quest players to be able to join our community, and that’s why we will give them tools in the game - to learn how to sail. But this is not “learn how to sail app” - this is a racing game. Therefore, the focus of learning will be on skills required to enable players to race and have fun. MarineVerse Cup is easy to learn and difficult to master. Sailing can be relaxing and sometimes even competitors want to wind down. That’s why our game will offer “free sailing”, however this is not the main focus of this game. Other humans can offer the most challenging competition and satisfaction from “winning” - that’s why our game will feature multiplayer. However, to be approachable, we game offers “single player” mode, to enable players to build skills and gain confidence. Sailing across the Atlantic Ocean from Cape Town South Africa, where my captain passed away last year, while we were sailing around the world, to Namibia. We bring Reghardt with us for the first leg of this offshore passage, and then just Michael and I will sail double handed from Namibia to St Helena, Ascension Island, and then cross to Brazil and the Caribbean. Sailing Across an Ocean with Patrick Childress was easy, a given...but sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with unfamiliar new crew and a somewhat new Captain....well, that took some getting used to, and still is. I can’t say its easy sailing, but it was nice to sail with plenty of sleep and help. It would have been worse to never have left the dock, for this circumnavigation to not be completed, when I’m so close to the finish line...just a transatlantic crossing and then a little more sailing in the Caribbean and then I’m a female Circumnavigator. No a solo sailor, not quite the captain, but at least aim finishing which means everything to me, as it would to Patrick Childress.
