We try our hand at geocaching for the first time on the island of Cayo Costa in Florida. Our plans to travel South come to a stall in order to try and fix our never ending issues with our dinghy outboard. Chef Naja cooks up some mean pancakes. Welcome to our channel, Marina Rats! We are Jordan, Shira, Naja, Taj, Bug, and Beans. Sailing on S/V Brighter Days, a 2010 Lagoon 400. The channel name came about while watching the kids scurry around marina docks like little rats. Chatting it up with all of the other boats going by, and constantly eating, leaving crumbs behind them wherever they go. Making short videos is a fun way for us to document our travels and share it with family and friends old and new. We do our first-ever night dive alongside some fellow cruisers on the isle of Bonaire in the pitch black, we wait for tarpons to nudge us in the side and avatar like sparkles to appear. Philippa has a lesson by 12 times world record free diving champion Carlos Coste. Is the bet to get to 10 metres in depth with@thelastpiratewon or am I still to achieve the 10 metres..? Philippa has a very close encounter with a beautiful turtle that had been caught in fishing wire, it isn't possible to free her from the wire.. One of our last dinners in Bonaire was our Easter dinner party with@RyanSophieSailingon AEQUUS which turns into an unexpected but much fun onboard disco. We show some of the highlights of snorkelling from Bonaire and that it isn’t just for scuba diving and if you are afraid or not trained in scuba diving, then there is still plenty to offer and see in the stunning waters of Bonaire by swimming in the bays. Western Caribbean cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Labadee, Falmouth, and Cozumel onboard Oasis of the Seas. When Oasis was launched in 2009 she was the largest cruise ship in the world. Indeed the Oasis Class ships still hold this honor with Harmony and Symphony of the Seas being marginally larger than Oasis. Oasis-class ships feature a split structure, with the 5-deck high "Central Park" and "Boardwalk" outdoor areas running down the middle of the ship. These areas feature tropical gardens, restaurants, shops, and a working carousel.
With our sails coming to the end of their lives and needing regular minor repairs we have recently been aware that we probably need to address this issue especially for when we are in the Kimberley, which is a very remote location. We have also been deciding whether to change a few things in our sail format. Magnus likes the high cut yanky headsail, but it is not the best sail for light wind conditions and the Kimberley is well known for its light wind conditions. So, we are deciding whether to get a larger headsail, possibly a 135%. We are also converting from hanked-on sails to furling headsail and staysail. So, now is the perfect opportunity to make the change and get a larger headsail. Another consideration is whether to go loose footed on our mail and mizzen sails or to stick with a fixed foot. Sails are an expensive investment on a boat., so, it’s time to get some quotes and make some decisions. After getting a few quotes and talking to quite a few sailmakers in Australia, we are not really happy with the result, plus the quotes are way above our price range, so we do a bit more sleuthing and find a Canadian company called Precision Sails which deals with online ordering and has a good following with YouTube sailing channels. We reach out to see if we can partner with them and they come to the party. They answer all of our questions fully, offer excellent online resources by way of YouTube videos and even arrange to call us to discuss any questions which we may have. They are very professional, helpful and knowledgeable. With all of our questions answered, we decide to go ahead. We make a few major design decisions which include getting fully battened, loose footed mizzen and mainsail and a 135% genoa. So, here we are measuring for four new beautiful sails for Nutshell. We will now feel a lot safer when we sail in the Kimberley. Magnus also installs a new heat exchanger on Nutshell too. I hope you enjoy this episode. Thanks for watching and see you all next time. It would not have been the same without you. This episode was filmed in 01 / 2021. — Welcome to Untie The Lines! my name is Nike, I bought an aluminum 37 foot sailboat in Panama in 2013 that I named KARL. I spent a good year refitting it, mostly by myself and with the help of awesome friends, and then (mostly) solo sailed my sailboat around the western Caribbean. In 2016, I crossed the Panama Canal, had a major engine break down, a near sinking experience and a serious foot injury which got me stuck along the Pacific coast of Central and South America. In this Episode, I explore the beaches around Concholon Bay (Pearl Islands, Panamá), start to paint some new TotalBoat non skid on my deck and take up anchor to solo sail to the next bay. It’s a short sail of only 10nm that start off with a beautiful breeze from the stern but when I have to start heading more upwind, the wind dies down on me. Even changing my fore sails and shaking out the reefs don’t help me to fight against the 2 knots current in the light winds. Well, I definitely did try... Enjoy and Ahoy, Nike & Karl
"It's a Manatee!!! The first one I've seen!" Kazza shouts with excitement. We just arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida and wake up to a beautiful and calm morning. We decide to take Baby Nugs to the beach to eat some sand, and while hanging out Kazza spots a Manatee just off the beach. After playtime is over I troubleshoot our alternator on the trusty Volvo that mysteriously stopped working on the passage down the coast. I don't have any luck, and will have to order parts and finish that one up another day. Kazza decides to go shopping, leaving me in charge of Sierra for the afternoon which means we end up watching the police boat bust people, then head into the yacht club to eat some mud. Finally we sail Delos down to Ft. Lauderdale and go on the hunt for a dock space that can accomodate us which means shoving a paddle board inside my dad's Camry and heading out on a mission with our portable depth sounder. Lot's of funny things going on in this one! Many hugs and hope you liked the video! Keywords: critical failure at sea; electrical failure while sailing, sailing Northern Europe; sailing in France; alternator failure; high voltage in sailboat, cooking battery bank. In this episode we started to sail towards Brest but we had to abort the trip and turn around and sail back to Cherbourg due to a critical failure we got at sea. Anders and the technician investigate the problem and to reduce the crowd in the saloon I went out to checkout a huge nuclear submarine and an old ruin. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

Sailing through US Virgin Islands. Enjoying the delights of St. John beaches, the charm of Charlotte Amalie and an interesting road tour of St. Thomas. From Soper’s Hole, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, we motor the short distance across to the island of St. John, US Virgin Islands, where we check-in at Cruz. The beaches of north-west St. John are extremely beautiful and we relax for full 5 days, exploring by dinghy and trekking. Visiting resorts still devastated by hurricane Irma and the ruins of Annaberg sugar plantation. We then gently sail over to the busier and more developed main island of St. Thomas, and on the way, we pass our friends on s/v Gale, a Swan 66. On St. Thomas we have an interesting road trip around the whole island in a dashing red Jeep and spend some time to capture the Danish architecture of Charlotte Amalie, the main town in the USVIs. 17-26 March 2019 Next episode: La Culebra, Spanish Virgin Islands Visited on St. John: Cruz town, Waterlemon Bay, Mary Bay, Francis Bay, Maho Beach, Trunk Bay, St. Peter Bay, Honeymoon Beach, Cinnamon Beach, Cruz Bay, Hansen Bay and Annaberg sugar plantation. Check out Super Yacht Captain's Channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCGiwH3UwI52fKr7P8kkJIQ I filmed this vlog from the beautiful island of Mallorca in the Ballearics. Tomorrow I shall publish a full walk through video of a Sanlorenzo SD 92, so first I wanted to familiarize myself with this well known brand.
Whilst sheltering from a storm, a chance encounter led to an insight into the risky fishing techniques used on Indonesia's tropical reefs. We were invited out on a local fishing boat where we were learnt about the crazy reality of fishing for aquarium fish, where they come from, and how they are caught. This is the real finding Nemo. Being invited aboard a local fishing boat by these lovely, friendly fishermen is one of the adventures which will remain in our memories for a long time. Compressor diving or Hookah diving in Indonesia is responsible for many deaths and life changing injuries, the risks are very real. We are amazed at the amount of effort that goes into catching pretty fish from the reef just so that they can be displayed in fish-tanks around the world. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid. We go exploring around Cayo Alcatraz but it's not what we expected. It really is a lonely harsh place and I love it. I visit a hurricane devastated beach and search for crocodiles but there are non around. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".
