In this weeks news we make our way up Loch Fyne to Ardrishaig, where we lock into the Crinan Canal. We spend a couple of days exploring the canal by bicycle as we have two on board. Once we have the lie of the land and have watched others transit the canal we take the plunge and head along the 9 miles of canal with 15 locks. We would highly recommend hiring a pair of hands to help with the locks if you a short handed like us, they earn their keep. This made the passage a joy rather than stressful. The views are wonderful and it cuts off having to sail all the way around the Mull peninsula. Finally, we pay up and lock out of the Crinan basin and set sail once again. Our final destination is Ardfern yacht haven. If you enjoy this video remember to subscribe to keep up to date with our latest stuff, click the red subscribe link below the video. In which I pop down to Kemah, Texas (the land that Covid forgot, hardly a mask to be seen), to take some American Sailing Association courses in the hopes that when I actually buy a boat, I can sail it home. I guess the courses were worthwhile, but I took them at the least expensive school I could find in the entire US. They advertised the ASA 103/104 combo as two nights offshore but the 103/104 instructor didn't deliver. Still, my 101 instructor was superb and I gained a lot of confidence on the water. I have to say, while the courses are pricey, they are dense in material and will give you a solid foundation in sailing. Music by me, available here: https://lancemonotone.bandcamp.com/

We did our first night dive with Panama City Diving on the wreck, The Red Sea, about 6 miles off the coast of Panama City, Florida. She sits in about 75 feet of water to the sandy bottom and starts around 40 feet below the surface. We had an amazing time and saw 3 HUGE turtles!

** NOW SOLD ** High Anxiety III is a unique yacht with a carbon hull designed by renowned naval architects Dovell and features a lengthened and modified deck of a Farr 40. The owner set out to build a vessel with elegant lines and sparkling performance, but at the same time, less intimidating and easier to sail. She has a Farr 40 Carbon Mast by Southern Spars and aluminium boom, a 3m performance keel, carbon rudder and a massive sail wardrobe. Her large, open cockpit is uncluttered and well laid out, whilst the twin wheel installation enhances cockpit circulation. Full Deck covers have kept her sails and deck gear in good condition. Her interior may be enhanced with the loose supplied sink, stove and chart table. This vessel has been a successful club racer and recently sprinted up the coast from Sydney.

Here’s a quick video showing the anchoring system on Snow Gum - a Garcia Exploration 45. Curiously, the one thing not seen is the anchor! It’s a Spade anchor, the standard one offered by Garcia for this yacht, being a 25kg galvanised steel version. It’s holding its place very nicely in the sandy, weedy bottom, after biting and holding first time. Regards, Rick.

We just sold EVERYTHING to start our DREAM LIFE! Join us on our journey towards buying a 46FT Beneteau Oceanis in Italy. In this episode Dirk will be explaining more about the boat and what to look for when buying a pre-owned sailboat. (and what to stay away from) Thank you for watching and please subscribe to join us on our journey! Hi everyone! We are Dirk and Maraya. We just decided to sell our house, and actually everything we own. Our possessions felt like weight and we had a dream. Corona made us realise that if we want to do something big, we should do it now. As afraid as we are to start this adventure, we are going for it with confidence, as we are following our hearts. For the past 8 years Dirk has been dreaming of taking this step. Dirk has been saving money, doing courses, and preparing for this major step. Maraya shares the passion of the ocean and living more sustainable, and also shares this passion about discovering the world from the water! Our inspiration comes from amazing people from channels like: Sailing Doodles, Sailing Zatara, Sailing La Vagabonde, Gone with the Wynns, Sailing SV Delos, Sailing Project Atticus, Finding Avalon, GoSea Sailing, Lazy Gecko, Free Range Sailing, MJ Sailing and many many more. We are fans ourselves. But it is time for us to now create our own journey. This week we say goodbye to our beloved Bocas del toro, we have stayed for almost 2 months and we have loved every minute of it but now it's time to continue. Having 5-6 knots of wind coming out of Bocas we decided to try out our spinnaker for the first time! We don't have all the tools to fly it yet, but after Kieran mounted the spinnaker pole and some adjusting, she was up. First time for all of us and the feeling was incredible, we felt like we could take over the Pacific. I wasn't feeling crash hot the next day when my sea sickness took over. There is only a few things that helps in that stage, and one of them is dolphins. Reaching Colon and Shelter Bay, the storm hit us and the sky opened. Motoring trough the channel we said goodbye to the Caribbean ocean and was excited what was to come! Join our crew! We are looking for new crew to join in the future journey. Join our journey in 3 days of sailing from St Martin to Bermuda. We have a breakage when trying to shake out a reef but manage to jury rig a solution that seems to hold. The wind starts dropping out on us more and more but it means we can get in a little bit of fishing, relaxing and playing with the sails. Half way day (day 4), we start to go a little loopy finding things to do and settle for having a beer and pizza and trying to make friends with some dolphins who've come for a visit. In this episode, I'm sharing a brief update on the refitting progress as I added some work to the refitting. Also, great progress and lots of small things solved. Most of the time I sail singlehanded but occasionally I do have sailing friends onboard. Still in the Caribbean due to Covid and was supposed to be in Asia by now. Even though this is season 3 on youtube I have already sailed 4 seasons full time but did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I have sailed several seasons in the Med prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and been sailing ever since. PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS! I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.

With the new ground tackle I changed / simplified our marking system but was not use to the new system yet and mistakingly had only put out 3 scope instead of 5 scope (I never anchor with less than 5 scope out). We were anchored in 50 feet of water and as the winds increased and we were blown towards deep water our ground tackle quickly found itself with nothing to reset on. When we re-anchored We dropped our 45lb mantus and 250 of 5/16 chain on the sea floor and stayed put in high winds all day and into the night. I actually valued us dragging as much as I valued the knowledge of how well the new ground tackle held. It was a good reminder that if you dont have enough scope out it doesn't matter how robust your ground tackle is you can still end up dragging in the right conditions. Being lost is not something we are used to. Especially after 25,000nm and sailing half the World. However it appears that our ability to navigate oceans is not matched by our ability to hike through forests. So after a few hours, we find ourselves pretty lost in the rainforest. Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love
