What would you do if it seemed like the world was ending? Would panic set in as you began thinking about all the things you didn’t do, the places you didn’t go, or the relationships you didn’t spend enough time nurturing? We had the opportunity to meet this question head on when the world ground to a halt in early 2020. The economy was crashing, borders were closing, and people close to us were dying… It really felt like the world as we knew it was over. So what did we do? It was beautiful to sail in the Bay of Gibraltar and to see the rock from the water. A little less idyllic are the many cargo ships that are anchored in front of the coast, but it is impressive to sail in between those huge ships. In the Bay of Gibraltar, there are a lot of dolphins. We saw some almost every time we went out sailing. But this time was especially wonderful. It was a beautiful, sunny day with little wind and the sea was super calm. We could spot a large pod of dolphins in the distance. Once they noticed us some of them came to swim along with our boat. They were so clearly visible thanks to the calm and clear water. It was wonderful! We were in Gibraltar during the Chistmas holidays and it was beautiful there with all the Christmas lights in the Marina. Some boats had lights all the way up the mast. Because Liam had hurt his foot and had to rest for a week he was not able to take the walk up the rock, so the kids and I stayed on the boat and Sven went alone to discover the beautiful sights on the top of the Rock. But we get to watch the beautiful images now, in this video, together with you. All of our boat jobs were finished so we prepared to go back to Portugal. We left the Marina as soon as it opened again on the morning of December 26. We would have to sail for approximately 30 hours to Portimão. The trip started out smooth, the sun was shining and the wind was favorable. Turns out that sailing downwind with the waves coming from the back was very comfortable. My favorite part of the day during a multiday sailing trip is when the glow of the sun becomes visible at the horizon. The first sign that the night is over. On this morning the sky was clear and the sunrise was beautiful as usual. It was a beautiful, sunny day and everything was calm. With the light wind coming from behind we could use our code 0. And it was a perfect day for some fishing. We were not very lucky though; it didn’t look like we were going to catch anything soon. We just left the fishing rod in the stand and waited. After hours of very little wind, we took in the code 0 and started preparing to arrive in Portimão sometime later. And then, only a few moments later, we caught something large but it wasn’t a fish… Can you guess what happened? We forgot about the fishing line while steering the boat into the wind to furl in the code 0 and that’s how we caught our own boat!! Our fishing line got caught in the starboard propellor; we were lucky that the engine wasn’t running at the time. Sven cut the line loose and tried to get as much as possible out of the prop. We recovered some of the broken line but there was still some of it wrapped around the prop. We arrived in Portimão just after sunset and anchored in the river. We would try to get the fishing line out of the prop and check if there was any damage the next day. Beaching the boat was so easy, I now understand why people do it with their catamaran all the time. We were so worried about this in Porto and decided not to do it then, but we felt so much more confident now and familiar with our boat that it wasn’t any trouble at all. Of course it’s important to watch the tide, you don’t want to be stuck for a month after beaching during the highest tide. It was already dark by the time the tide was low enough. Turned out that there was still a lot of the fishing line wrapped around both props. Sven got it all out, and we were lucky and very happy that we didn’t damage our props or sail drives. Ein Überführungstörn von Les Sables d’Olonne in die Türkei auf einer Lagoon 42. Anders als die meisten Überführungsskippern, wollen wir möglichst viel Segeln. Um einen Flautengürtel möglichst zu umfahren, wählen wir nicht den direkten Kurs an die Nordwestspitze Spaniens, sondern segeln zunächst südlich, um dann mit dem einsetzenden Ostwind entlang der Küste zu fahren - ein Umweg von 50 Seemeilen. Após alguns problemas com o Quinto, resolvemos voltar ao Guarujá onde o tiraríamos da Água para pintar o fundo e sanar tais problemas. Só não contávamos com mais perrecos que se mostraram após a lavagem do casco com a lavadora de alta pressão. Nossa quilha apresenta infiltração, o casco tem pequenos pontos de osmose e o leme está com folga além de uma enorme infiltração... São Vários problemas relativamente simples, entretanto são extremamente trabalhosos quando almejamos a perfeição e por isso levaremos mais tempo do quê o esperado para voltar para a água, mas mostraremos o passo-à-passo aqui pelo YouTube e nossa rotina diária pelo Insta...
