We finally arrived! Which means it's time for boat work! In this episode we do the dreaded thru hulls, which we used Tru-Design's composite products, and then we did 2 wonderful coats of antifouling. We did loads more, which we may do future videos on, like our new Mantus M1 anchor, and other jobs like lifeline netting, saildrive servicing, and other delightful jobs. Unfortunately, between us being super new to filming, and also having a really tight timescale, we didn't film anywhere near enough for proper videos on these jobs. So, thankfully, this might be our only memory of life on the hard. Which we are more than happy about! We said, “Good bye.” to Cakewalk. Packed up our bags, stuffed everything in the car and drove to Florida and our new boat, Isabella. Lots of things to do there. Our initial goal was to make all the floors nice. This included some fiberglass work and keeping the access panels useable. We did a lot of cleaning, replaced water hoses, major league organizing, and explored our new hood. We’ve spent a couple of nights on the boat and it’s not too bad even though we’re not in the water. Isabella, is still on the hard and will be until late in the year. We’re in the queue for a bow thruster installation which can’t begin until the middle of December. Here we look at 6 ways we can improve things for ourselves (albeit while also benefiting everyone else as well). The 6th is real but a bit twisted :-) We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. We decided to leave St Lucia on Sunday and that required getting PCR tests, booking out, filling up with duty-free fuel, and heading north. The weather wasn't great but for us to meet the deadline for PCR test results we had to go. The trip was supposed to be a 28 hour non-stop sail doing around 180 miles. We didn't even make it 40 miles.
