In this episode I spend a week towards earning my captains license in sail school on the Saronic bay off the coast of Athens. We learn the ropes while having a blast and Island hoping to places like Hydra, Poros and Aegina. I'm a pirate (of the heart) without a boat, and my sweet home in the hills of Jerusalem got swallowed up last summer in a forest fire. After years of sailing on other peoples boats or rentals, I'm making this long time dream come true and turning the hardship of a destroyed home into a blessing. About the home that burned down: For the last ten years, I've been blessed to live most of the year on a magical, beautiful and abundant hillside in the forest 20 minutes outside of Jerusalem. My friends call the land that I've been living on "heaven." The owners of the land have an enchanted wooden home on the land, and operate a woodshop on the land making biblical harps. My heart, sweat, many memories and dreams are tied to this land. I built many of the features myself, planted many fruit trees and a garden, and it all turned into ash from a forest fire. The harp shop also burned down completely. There is a campaign to help rebuild the harp shop. Nobody humans were hurt or burned on the property, and I'm relearning the lesson about what is and isn't important in life. About the boat: Greece is a great place to get a boat, practice sailing around the islands, and sail to Israel. I'll be looking to get a 39 foot monohull that is tall enough for me to stand in, safe and comfortable enough to live in, and has room for friends. If it has a crows-nest on the top, that would be bonus. Me and sailing: I went to a sailing camp when I was 10 years old for a month in Atlantic City. I didn't really learn to sail, but fell in love with the wind and the waves. Over the last decade, I've co-captained a few epic sailing adventures in the Caribbean with my clone (twin), family and friends. There is a really nice mix of deep tranquility and bliss....AND great adventure, problem solving and dancing with nature and the unknown. I LOVE IT! Les concepteurs de cette plate-forme développée sur le bassin d’Arcachon ont opté pour une configuration catamaran afin d’offrir une surface de pont 45 % supérieure à celle d’un monocoque. This Sunseeker Predator 57 from 2019 isn’t just built for luxurious comfort. With her two potent Volvo Penta D13 diesel engines (with only 310 engine hours) delivering 900 hp each she smoothly accelerates and planes easily. The garage houses a Williams 325 Turbojet. And, the hydraulic bathing platform, the aft deck, and the steps are all laid with teak with silver grey caulking which gives this boat an elegant and exclusive look. She is, among other things, equipped with a bow- and stern thruster, generator, full Simrad navigation equipment, life raft, hydraulic telescopic gangway, water maker, wet bar with grill, fridge and ice maker, and sizable sun pads. After 2 wet days in Cherbourg we moved our home to Carteret. Make My Day had a dolphin escort out of the bay when we left Cherbourg. Our departure was also partly dictated by the wind. This was our last day before the wind would shift and be on our nose. On our journey to Carteret, we rounded Cap de la Hague. Which is the beginning of the “Alderney race”, the second biggest current in the world. With a mere 5 knots of wind from our side, we made a speedrecord of 12,5 knots. It was certainly an interesting ride. Leontien planned the timing of the trip well. We arrived at Carteret just before high tide. So we had the current with us and sufficient water to cross the sill at the entrance to the harbor. This was critical because, the tidal range here is 10 meters! The approach to the harbor at Carteret goes dry at low water and resembles a beach. Carteret is a beautiful small town that we explored for the next 6 days. During that time we had some friends from The Netherlands who were in the area on holiday pay us a visit (our first since leaving Amsterdam). Music by Troy and Paula Haag and Solitary Zebra.

SAILING Our Seawind 1600 to MAINE'S MOST REMOST ISLAND | Harbors Unknown Ep. 44 This week we’re sailing our Seawind 1600 catamaran from Mt. Desert Island to Matinicus, Maine's most remote island. 22 miles from Rockland, in the outer reaches of Penobscot Bay. A remote place steeped in tradition with many of the same families living there for generations. A sort of chosen isolation. There are no restaurants, no grocery stores. People place orders at a supermarket in Rockland and the groceries are flown in. Tales of lobster wars and residents that now tolerate visitors, it piqued our curiosity. The best part of travel is meeting people with a completely different way of life, and experiencing places without the standard strip malls of Target, Starbucks etc., places that have a unique character. That is what we hoped to find. What we discovered is simplicity. A place where life is boiled down to enjoying simple things. The smell of ocean air mixed with pine. The sound of gurgling waves meeting the shore, and the cacophony of bugs. Sand sparkling like diamonds in the glistening sunlight. A sense of community where as soon as you find yourself needing help, someone is there to lend a hand. I’ll take that any day. In the run up to the Rolex Middle Sea Race, TVM's Sports Journalist Sandro Micallef met with some of the Maltese crews taking part in the 42nd Edition of this iconic Race. Andrew Agius Delicata and Matthew Gabriele will be the only Maltese Double Handed Entry on their Reflex 38 Vivace. This will be their second participation with this formula, having placed 4th in 2019.
