We arrived at the perfect time in Beaufort; it was Memorial Day weekend and many of Brown’s friends from Woodberry Forest and UNC were in town. Jess sent out the word that Brown Councill had returned to NC and it seemed to spread like wildfire. Our plan was to head out to Shackleford Banks for the day and set up a rendezvous point, but the winds were so strong that everyone decided that descending on Taylor’s Creek and tying up to “the beast” was the best alternative. At one point, we had 6 boats across and our cruising friends could not believe the sight. Everyone brought their own food and drinks and bussed their trash. I have never seen our boat look better after 30+ people visited. It was incredible. The most amazing thing was getting to meet all of Brown’s friends, their wives and families for the first time. I have never met a nice group of guys who loved on us throughout their visit. It was incredibly special to experience this. And, to see my husband smiling ear to ear the whole day was a huge gift to me. In this video, we continue our sailing circumnavigation of Taha'a, by snorkeling in a coral garden, then heading to Motu Moute where we meet Bernardo at the tiny island resort named La Pirogue Api. During this, our website onfilandtime.com went down, but Bernardo happens to be a Wordpress guru, and helped us out while making us feel at home on land for an afternoon. After returning to the Apu Bay, we again join our new French Polynesian family for a road tour around Taha'a. We visit a rum distillery, and then a vanilla farm at La Valee de la Vanille. Finally, the family comes aboard Amanecer for a drink and a swim and get a brief taste of the boat life. Thanks for watching! Partiamo dal Marina di Porto Ottiolu scappando dai temporali. Ci fermiamo in rada a Porto Istana per ridossarci da un groppo che per fortuna ci schiva. Sosta in rada al Pevero, visita veloce dell'isola di Budelli e Razzoli e poi prua verso la Corsica, dove diamo fondo in 5 metri nella rada di Rondinara. I giorni successivi prua su Solenzara e Porto Taverna e da li attraversiamo verso l'isola d'Elba, dove trascorriamo due giorni in rada a Biodola e il terzo vicino a Porto Azzurro. L'ultimo giorno un bel NE ci accompagna verso il Marina di Punta Ala, dove faremo sosta per la stagione invernale, concludendo così la quinta tappa del nostro viaggio di 1570 miglia attorno all'Italia.

Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Am vierten September kamen wir in Wien an, 980 Seemeilen und 2120 km über die europäischen Wasserstraßen lagen hinter uns. Seitdem liegt Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, der Refit hat bereits begonnen. Nach einem vergeblichen Versuch, die in Italien geltenden Einreiseregelungen zu erfüllen, brechen wir gegen 10:30 bei leicht wechselnden Winden zur Straße von Messina auf. Bereits bei der Einfahrt senkt sich die Dämmerung über uns. Beide beobachten wir den rasch zunehmende nächtlichen Schiffsverkehr während wir uns der nördlichen Engstelle annähern. Gegen Mitternacht haben wir endlich alle Fährstrecken passiert und wollen nur noch in die Kojen.
