Christmas is coming up fast and its time to finalise the gifts we have bought for our friends and family. Whats better than a shopping day? An adventure day with some shopping intwined into it! First stop is up North at Pant Mawr (essentially the best cheese you will ever try!). We stock up on the dairy goodness before seeking out the enchanted Sealyham Woods. Boy did we pick a day to visit this (already mysterious and eerie) place! Snapping branches, whistling wind and the sound of fast flowing water, we were rather spooked there. Next, we head to Garn Turne Rocks and pretty much get blown away- we didn't realise how sheltered the woods were and we felt the true extent of the storm we found ourselves in the middle of. We probably looked insane up on the rocks in such powerful wind! The final visit of the day was to Llanwhaden Castle- this used to be one mans entire house! With incredible views over the Welsh countryside, and the rain holding off for us (kind of), we enjoyed the sunset from the crumbling walls of this historical hotspot. This week we continue to discover the beautiful island of Mo’orea by sea this time, we get up close and personal with stingrays and reef sharks and sail towards the next Society island Huahine. We have fallen in love with Mo’orea, the towering mountains all around, the lush green jungle and the turquoise blues of the ocean below. After hearing off a local about a place called “Stingray City” on the north west side of the island, we quickly jump in the dingy and headed over there. We needed to go there! And what a sight it was. Kieran was a bit scared in the beginning but wow, we just love exploring the underwater world. With only a few weeks left in the country we started our sail to Huahine, a bit sad to have to leave this magical island. Kieran makes a predicament of good wind and low waves... well one of the two was correct. I fell so seasick, I almost vomited. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

So i have found some moisture / soaking wet in the keels. Lots of layers of anti foul and previous repairs that will be a big job on its own to sand back and fully inspect all the glass underneath. The Australia SailGP team, skippered by Tom Slingsby, relished the strong nor’easterlies that blasted down Sydney Harbour today. Recovering from deep in the fleet on the first two races to finish 4th and 2nd, the Aussie team booked a place in the event final, capitalising on their momentum to sail an almost faultless race and winning by a clear margin from the USA team with the Spanish 3rd on the podium.

Olympian and Volvo sailor Nina Curtis is the sixth sailor on the Australia SailGP team, participating in the Women’s Pathway Program (WPP). Racing for just the second time on the boat in what were testing conditions, Nina was smiling from ear to ear as she talked about her day on the water and as a member of the winning team for the Sydney event.

Jimmy Spithill and the USA SailGP Team have had their fair share of bad like in the season so far, and while the USA boat got through to the finals race and finished 2nd, he still loves to play the underdog! He talks here about what it will take to match the consistency of the Australian and British teams when the breeze is up and he also suggests that we should be prepared for very different conditions from a summer event in San Francisco, when the last event of the season is held there in March 2022.

Endlich ist es soweit! Wir haben Neel schon lange auf dem Schirm und jetzt hat es sich endlich ergeben, dass wir den Neel 47 für eine Woche lang testen können. Das Modell ist noch recht jung, gewinnt aber schon reihenweise die ARC+ beispielsweise. La partenza del primo giro d'Italia in solitaria da parte di un navigatore paraplegico a bordo di un trimarano Dragonfly di 8m. Era il 22 aprile del 2018 e la barca non era certo pronta per un viaggio di questa portata e mancavano diversi rinforzi, però potevo contare su quella che ho creato in oltre vent'anni: l'esperienza. Ammetto che sono partito un po' 'garibaldino' nel senso che non m'importava la barca perfetta, volevo semplicemente mollare gli ormeggi e partire. Ricordo benissimo la notte prima della partenza perché non dormii proprio sereno e se vogliamo aggiungerla, la barca l'avevo provata solamente il giorno prima della partenza in modalità 'SOLO'. In realtà in cantiere ero salito diverse volte a bordo utilizzando un carroponte per barche, avevo già una visione piuttosto ampia degli spazi, come muovermi, cosa fare, fino a dove potevo fare... Si trattava solo di mettere a frutto tutti i miei pensieri, di incrociare le dita auspicando il miglior mare di sempre. In alcune immagini si noterà l'imbrago e paranco che utilizzavo per sollevarmi e spostarmi da poppa a prua, e noterete la scarsa agilità... posso dire che man mano passavano i giorni e le settimane, questo sistema si è rilevato il migliore che avessi mai utilizzato. Si, lo usavo per imbarcarmi e sbarcarmi, per andare sotto coperta o per uscire, per andare ai piedi dell'albero per sistemare cime o la randa (vela maestra) ed infine anche per raggiungere con minor difficoltà i gavoni sugli scafi laterali o banalmente per sistemare i parabordi insomma, un accessorio semplice ma decisamente efficace. Ok, da qui in poi direi di gustare il video se non altro per lo sfondo veneziano che ha sempre il suo bel perché... Ciao!
