Durante la traversata dall Nuova Zelanda ci siamo accorti di imbarcare acqua dalla boccola del timone. Quindi uno dei lavori importanti che abbiamo in progamma è: togliere il timone per capire come risolvere il problema. Il nostro timone è di carbonio ha una pala lunga 3metri e 50 centimetri più lasse che è anche esso in carbonio. Timone di questo tipo vengono installati con l'asilio di un pistone isdraulico che lo spinge dentro con un carico molto elevato , quindi per toglierlo non si puo spingere o martellare ma bisona metterlo in pressione verso il basso sempre con l'ausilio di pistoni idraulici. Como ya hicimos con el mástil mesana, el mástil principal necesitaba de cuidados intensivos ya que al no ser el original y debido a que fué montado sin mucha dedicación, quisimos asegurarmos que el pié del mástil estaba bién sujeto. Como la vez anterior Vangelis, el gruísta, nos ayudó y facilitó la vida gracias a su experiencia en este tipo de trabajos. Sin él no sabemos como lo hubiésemos podido hacer. How we adjusted our steering box to remove some slop in our loose steering. This will work on most cars with a worm gear type steering system. It won't make your 20 plus year old ride drive like a dream, but it may just help keep you on the road. The pristine, like-new drive may require some replacement parts. You can also see the video below where we go over all this. Warning: Over tightening the steering box could cause damage! So one of the first things you have to do is find your steering box. On most cars, trucks, and Jeeps, it will be under the hood at the end of the steering rod coming from your wheel. On our YJ Jeep it was between the bumper and grill. Then you will have to find on the steering box the adjustment point for the worm drive gear. Most will be adjusted with a wrench and an allen wrench or screwdriver. Now you are going to have to lift the front tires off the ground from the axel so you can freely turn the wheel. We do this because while adjusting your steering box you will need to be able to turn the wheel without the assistance of the power steering pump. Don't want to break anything. We lift from the axle to remove suspension movement so we can look for other steering issues. With the wheels off the ground you can first check for bearings and ball joints quickly for play. Issues found here would need to be addressed for future steering improvements. For the wheel bearing you would lift the wheel up and down. If you feel or hear movements these could be signs of a worn wheel bearing. To check the upper and low ball joints, rock the wheel from top to bottom. If it moves these ball joints may need replacing. To check the steering ball, you will need to rock the wheel side to side. This will have an effect on steering play if worn. Now that your list is growing for things you need to repair, let's go over the steering box adjustment. First you are going to have to break loose the snugger bolt while holding the adjustment screw. For ours this required a bit of force even after we sprayed it down with break free oil. With everything loosened you will now want another person in the car to turn the wheel while adjusting. Start with a 1/4 turn clockwise and then have the have the person at the steering wheel check for play, then turn the wheel left and right to check for binding. If you have binding back off on the adjustment, and this is why we don't use power steering while adjusting. You can do this solo, it will just take more time because you will have to snug the locking bolt after each adjustment to test. Once adjusted and you like how everything feels, take it for a test drive and see how much play was removed. If you have other issues with the steering there may be little improvement noticed. One design feature of the Colvic Victor 40 Ketch Yacht is its substantial rig, using a main and mizzen mast configuration. This mast configuration will take care of you in virtually all weather conditions. Mast steps on the main and mizzen are also a great feature. General Deck hardware is well specked for a boat of this size. It includes an electric windlass that’s easily capable of hauling vast amounts of chain or warp if needed on the Dual Gipsy Windlass. The deck looks to be in good order having a non-slip finish throughout Whatever the weather is doing outside, If the going gets tough, you'll stay warm and dry at the helm inside the deck saloon. The running rigging all looks to be in good order, and we understand she is ready to sail. Making my way back to the cockpit, I can see she's a very capable sailing yacht. That mizzen looks especially strong thanks to the triangular topping spreader. A feature of a heavy weather sailing ketch is, you can roll out a little headsail and then control the yacht using only the mizzen sail without leaving the cockpit. The mainsail has the ever-popular lazy bag system, this will help sail handling especially if you are short- or single-handed sailing. A nice deep cockpit is almost enclosed by matching dodgers, that add extra privacy if you're chilling in a Marina. A sturdy set of davits supports a GRP tender, and there is also a small barbecue neatly hung off the port-side of the cockpit for safety. Down below she feels bigger than a 40-footer, and this deck saloon yacht lets lots of light in with virtually 360-degree vision through the deck saloon windows. Currently, she is set up as a liveaboard, having a fridge next to the helm in addition to the standard unit installed in the yacht. The galley is set up is neatly placed just foreword of the lower helm station. The galley has a two-burner hob and oven and a dual stainless-steel sink that has plenty of storage above in this well-lit space. Bunk beds opposite the galley also house a conveniently placed additional fridge. The forepeak cabin is neat and tidy next to a midships toilet, washbasin, and shower compartment. Moving aft is a good size chart table leading to the master cabin, which has a second ensuite heads compartment. What we have here is a Garcia Exploration 45 with a bare hull and naked toe rails. It has to be the most purposeful version I’ve seen to date. Just look at all of the places you could tie a line or anchor a block on that rail. Fantastic. This is a design choice that is very much worth thinking about, as is the bare hull. It’s a great look. Vi gillade verkligen Azorerna; det var fin natur, väldigt god mat, mycket lokalproducerat och trevliga människor. Då vi väntade på drivenheten till autopiloten (som skulle levereras till Horta) hade vi tyvärr inte tid att besöka fler öar, något vi annars väldigt gärna skulle vilja ha gjort. Vi får besöka Azorerna någon mer gång i framtiden istället, något vi gärna vill, och se fler av öarna! We did it! 4 years after buying Parlay, a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450, who went through 3 separate rebuilds, due to hurricane Irma, finding cracked bulkheads, and getting struck by lightning! But she is now hands down the strongest Lagoon 450 on the planet, with epoxy bulkheads and even a sugar scoop extension which will hopefully make her sail better than ever! Now it's time to begin planning the interior of our boat. Become a Lord or Lady today!! https://establishedtitles.com/mjsailing Even though we'll be spending the winter working in each hull side because we can heat the fore and aft areas, we've found that in order to properly place a few of these things out, we first need to fit out the salon. Even though we won't be getting to that area for months!! But, having some of those items in place helps us decide what we want to do down in the hulls. Which, for the main focus of this episode, we're working in the master head and vanity. Questions come up like "Where we want to fit the toilet? How is this going to impact where we place the counter? Would it be best to have sliding doors for our cabinet, or opening?" It turns out, there is A LOT to consider when the world is (partially) your oyster. But once we get a few of the necessary decisions out of the way, Matt is able to template and cut the bulkheads which will separate our shower from another cabinet in the forward section of the head.
