#134 ✍️Il y a encore deux mois, vous m’auriez demandé de vous situer les îles Vierges Britanniques, ignorant leur existence, j’aurais été incapable de vous répondre ! Pourtant, si j’avais été plus assidue à mes cours d’histoire, j’aurais dû savoir que leur position stratégique, en avait fait à l’époque de Christophe Colomb, oui encore lui, une escale populaire pour les navires faisant la navette entre l’Europe et l’Amérique. Plus encore, avec leurs innombrables cachettes, ces îles furent jadis une base favorite des pirates et des flibustiers ! De nos jours, cet archipel est devenu la plus grande base de charter au monde et attire toutes les plus grosses fortunes. Prickly Bay, en cette veille de nouvel an, pourrait en être la baie probante ! Bateaux de luxe, Yachts somptueux, flotte richissime, c’est à celui qui exhibera au mieux la démesure. Loin d’être envieux de ce monde ostentatoire parallèle, nous n’en restons pas moins curieux et nos kayaks sont les montures idéales pour nous approcher subtilement de ces étonnantes unités. De près, ces remarquables bâtiments sont encore plus impressionnants, mais ce qui l’est encore plus, c’est la vedette flambante qui, sans la moindre hésitation nous a foncé dessus, percutant sur le flanc mon Amour et son embarcation ! Saisis par le choc, et surtout soulagés de ne pas être blessés, nous avons à peine réagis, laissant s’éloigner nos délictueux distraits, en nous dirigeant vers la suite de notre expédition, encore tout étourdis par la collision. C’est en voyant un deuxième bateau moteur se diriger vers nous, en nous faisant des signes, que nous avons vraiment réalisé les dommages qu’un tel accident aurait pu causer. D’ailleurs, le boss qui a envoyé ses deux membres d’équipage à notre poursuite, pour nous offrir cette bouteille de champagne, doit bien savoir les risques qu’aurait pu encourir son condamnable pilote ! Percutés par « l’annexe » du plus grand sloop au monde, M5 ! Il y aurait eu de quoi récupérer quelques millions ! Les bulles de notre mousseux présent nous ont agréablement fait passer le cap de 2021 à 2022. Cependant, je ne peux convenir mettre en pratique la résolution d’être moins maladroite, mon Tchoupi en a encore fait les frais ce matin ! Un couteau directement planté dans son pied pour le premier jour de l’année ! Au lieu de promesses annuelles, nous préférons miser sur nos projets futurs, et les voilà qui ont encore changé ! Dans l’idée, nous devions passer Panama courant mai pour la transocéanique du Pacifique, au lieu de ça, nous allons profiter du nord des Caraïbes, redescendre vers la Colombie et mieux encore, retrouver notre fiston. En vérité, c’est l’origine de notre changement de programme. Comme cela peut arriver trop souvent en mer, son couple qu’il pensait indestructible s’est émietté sans signes avant-coureurs, emportant avec lui tous les rêves d’une aventure à deux. De cette difficile rupture, il doit se relever et nous nous devons de le soutenir, mais que c’est dure quand on est loin ! Nous aimerions tellement le serrer contre nous et l’épauler en étant près de lui. C’est la vie, c’est sa vie. Il va surmonter cette épreuve, nous avons confiance et bientôt ce sera les retrouvailles entre Sagar Rani et Black Lion ! Sailing Uma is one of our favorite YouTube sailing channels! Dan and Kika are truly pioneers with their small space and sailing innovation! Uma frequently achieves what many would say is impossible, however, we think we found an area where they are wrong. In this video we continue our interior refit on our Salon. We had to rip up our beautiful salon floor because water was coming in through door and settling under the floor causing it to rot! We installed a new solid vinyl plank flooring which has a built in nonskid and is waterproof. Once the new floor was in, we went to work redesigned and building our couch! The couch on our boat was actually designed as a booth for the dinette! We would much rather have a couch to enjoy watching movies and gaming as a family! The Salon end result is amazing! The Alpine butterfly knot, also known as lineman's loop, butterfly loop, butterfly knot and lineman's rider, is a knot used to form a fixed loop in the middle of a rope. There are multiple ways to tie the Alpine Butterfly knot, in today's video we will teach you the wrap method where we form the knot by creating three loop around you hand to form the base of the kont. It can be tied without access to either end of the rope, this is a distinct advantage when working with long sheets or halyards. The Alpine butterfly knot is an excellent mid-line rigging knot, it handles multi-directional loading well and has a symmetrical shape that makes it easy to inspect. The Alpine Butter fly knot is great for creating temporary purchase systems which can help secure items with additional holding power. Making it great for tying down dinghies, spars, sails or just about anything you can loop your rope around. The Alpine Butterfly knot will tighten on itself making a secure loop or purchase system, it can be easily undo even after heavy load is applied making it a great temporary solution when a loop is needed. Nous naviguons sur un catamaran Wharram de 31 pieds. Avec nos deux enfants nous faisons la traversée de l'atlantique en famille. En fait c'est notre troisième transat de l'année; en janvier nous faisions le première entre le cap vert et la Martinique. In trying to be cheerier, I set about cleaning the floorboards and the bilge, while managing the leak which we have slowed to 4 drips per minute. ( about a table spoon a minute). But to move on from a temporary fix I need to resolve three issues 1. Finding the part ( Dripless Seal) which should be relatively easy 2. Finding a harbor that has the equipment and willingness to haul wahine out for the repair. This is proving to be challenging as two have already turned me down 3. Winning an argument with the insurance company who suggested my repair is not covered. At the end of the video I have some good news.
