My brother Bertil arrive and we do some more exploring of Algarve. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

We have talked with friends who have the Mastervolt and Balmar high-output alternators who are very happy with their set up too.  There are lots of new options out there, so look them all up to see which is best for your application.  No matter which brand, we're fans of the technology and think high-output alternators are a fantastic solution for boaters. UPDATE** We've been using this system since mid-December 2021 and it's now June 2022. So we're 6 months in and it's worked well. We haven't been able to get our tachometers working properly but other than that...the ability to pump in so much power to our battery bank while simply arriving at and leaving an anchorage is fantastic! We think high output alternators will be the norm vs a generator in the future. It's already becoming an option with some boat manufacturers. FYI, we were warned by friends with high output alternators that we would notice a slight drop in our overall speed. That's because power is being diverted to the batteries. For our setup, it seems to be about half a knot or so. For instance, if we motored with one engine at 1800 RPMs before we would travel at about 5 knots, now it's 4.5 knots. We've also worked out a couple of bugs that we talk about on our blog. Things are about to get a little tight in the bedroom. It's time to get back to building!! And you guessed it....more toilet talk!, lol. Not too much this week, but since we have figured out where we want the toilet, it's time for Matt to build a base for it, which will let us begin the steps for cabinets and counters in that space soon. Another older project we visit again is finally closing off the chamfered area in our forward v-berth, with the piece of foam Matt had fit to the area a few weeks earlier. Once that is in, we can begin thinking of the finishes we'd like for the ceiling and overhead - and look into fairing anything which won't have a liner. Lastly, it's time to bond in the frame to the aft bunks. With the lower bulkheads in place and properly spaced out to eventually place our diesel engines in the area, as well as having a lifting center to get access to them, we can bond the outer ring of the frame in place. The weather is literally close to freezing in the rest of the boat, but thanks to our radiator heaters we're able to keep it nice and steamy in the bedroom for some bonding. We hope you enjoy! Happy New Year!!! I know, it posted a little late. But better late than never. In this episode hiked all over Lee Stocking Island in the Exumas on our Leopard 45 Sailing Catamaran, finding another place to call one of our favorites. The scenery is once again spectacular, breathtaking. And Adrienne gets slapped in the face by a wave. (She's laughing about it now.) Keep a look out for it. Provisioning in the islands is definitely not the same as in the US. Grocery stores are small, and very few are plentiful, which makes luxury items especially hard to get. And if you can get them, they are ridiculously expensive. Would you pay $7 for an avocado? How about $10 for a package of Romain lettuce? So, when we do find such things and they happen to be reasonably priced, we stock up. Then we hide them. It keeps us in check, reminding us that these items are special. Find out what we hide and where we hide it. Jeff hates flying bugs. Flying bugs and snakes. And while there are very few snakes here in The Bahamas, if any, there are these giant moths that hang around. Jeff calls them Bat Moths. I don't know why. They don't look anything like bats. Nonetheless, they scare the hell out of him. Watch him scream like a little kid when one lands on his salad. If you'll remember, we added two new solar panels before we left. They are called "bifacial" panels in that they harvest energy from the suns reflection off the water or the deck underneath the panel. Our sail across the Atlantic Ocean was a little scarier than expected. We were on the home straight, everything was going smooth and then it happened..... We spotted a single handed French sailor LOST AT SEA. Having being stranded at sea for 3 weeks and dismasted for 3 days with no engine, we spotted his dismasted yacht being thrown around by the fierce swell of the Atlantic. After countless times of trying to summon the help of the coastguard from various Caribbean islands, each time we got a refusal of help. We knew it was up to us to get the lost sailor to safety. That was the only thought in all of our minds as we battled through 6 meter seas with 40+ knot winds. "If this was in the UK the RNLI would have been here - a sentence we would constantly say to each-other" After a sleepless night, we all battled against the odds to rescue this stranded sailor. Whoever says that catamarans are not a "seaworthy" "blue-water" sailing vessel needs to watch the video. At the end of the day, we are all in this community together, and without each-other, where would we be? The hotly debated topic of exposed helms on a catamaran. In this episode, we are traveling down the west coast of Portugal and Shayne gives us all a run down on his thoughts on why we like our exposed helm stations. As a cruiser, we don't often use our outside helm stations, we take advantage of our critical 6th crew member Steve (also known as our autopilot). For long passages, it makes sense to put the autopilot on and get on with looking after family and boat while underway but there are times when we want to actually sail our boat - either for fun or out of necessity. In these cases, having helm stations on each side of the boat allows clear views of the sails and hulls. Have a look at how we use our boat underway and why exposed helm stations work excellently for us. Of course, everyone has their own opinion but this is our two cents worth!

Stir into flour and salt until dough is formed. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then divide into 2 or 3 parts. Roll each part out paper thin, each dough ball should make a 12 inch pizza crust. This week on Sailing Bye Felicia, Matt and Lisa work to raise the jib sail they have been working tirelessly to repair.
