Sailing back to the place where everything went wrong, where we lost our anchor and had a nightmare of a night and facing our new fears, attempting to retrieve our anchor and sorting out our Turkish overstay! We had heard a lot about the free and easy-going life on La Gomera, even before our trip. The island has a mild, warm climate all year round, and is largely spared from mass tourism. The inhabitants are friendly and relaxed and you can find secluded, dreamlike bays all over the island. A paradise for the hippies and hedonists who visit and inhabit the island, in vans, in tents, huts, cars, houses, fincas ... and also in caves. And that's where we wanted to sail: to the cave-hippies of La Gomera. But stormy winds put a spoke in our wheel. So we first explored the interior of the island, which reminded us a bit of Jurassic Parc with its high mountains, steep forested valleys and the prehistorical cloud forest. When the weather finally cleared up, we set sail and headed out to explore the lonely anchorages in the south of the island. We dropped anchor in the Chinguarime Bay, just off the inhabited caves. A fantastic experience. But see for yourself.

Sharing some of my SAILING SECRETS and saying SEE YOU LATER to my Swedish friends, this time for real. Also starting to work on my generator to see if it's possible to save. In this episode I'm sharing some hints about sailing tactics and explain how I do things when I want to save lots of time using the elements to my advantage. How wind and waves with current plays a role in my decisions. It's a short sail but hopefully I managed to visualize the benefit of thinking about what I see around me, like topography of the island and reading the signs on the water telling me when I should tack. I tried to keep it stupid simple with some selfmade illustrations to be seen as not 100% accurate but hints to point you in the right direction. I could made an entire video only about ocean currents but tried to focus only on coastal sailing. If you ever sailed close to a Caribbean island you would recognize some of the things I point out. Im not trying to teach you anything here, only hoping to inspire some to think different if you never thought about this things. Back home when racing in the archipelago this kind of thinking was critical for winning a race. And I dont belive it was only luck making the same crew winning almost every race, or at least up among the top 3. Im also sharing the hard reality of goodbyes or see you later as I like to refer to even though you just sometimes know its gonna be a long time to next time if ever. It was really hard to say see you later to my Swedish friends and their lovely kids I have connected so well with. At the end of this episode I'm also starting on my last project here in Martinique before heading towards Panama. My generator from Fisher Panda is going through a full refit with some setbacks. We put in a skin fitting for the bilge pump before moving on forward and start the installation of the holding tank and toilet. It is unbelievable how much work goes into the toilet, we have been working on it full time for four days now and it is still not finished. But hopefully will be done by Monday and we will be ready to move on to the back cabin. In our schedule we are behind two days but we are hopping to catch up at some point or maybe we will get even more behind, it is so much to do yet. Also now it is all about finishing the bits and all requires much more time than we think sometimes but we are still positive that we will finished sometime in May. He takes delivery of our new Gator rope cutter and misplaces some important equipment for the top of the mast. We install lithium batteries on our sailing catamaran - probably the single biggest improvement we are making to our boat! The new batteries will connect to our solar, give us more power for longer and it means we can stop relying on that horrible diesel generator to charge our phones!
