In this video we demonstrate how to pack a spinnaker into a box-style bag. The goal is to have the spinnaker pull out of the bag on hoist without any twists or knots. A stuff-style bag is similar, except you don't have the benefit of being able to attach the spinnaker to the bag, and you can't leave the spinnaker fully packed on deck and connect all the lines. For those reasons alone a box-style bag is well worth the investment! This is a mini-documentary to celebrate the hiking accomplishments of Will Robinson. Will climbed the 115 highest mountain peaks in the northeastern United States in a single winter season. This list is commonly known as the Northeast 115. It is not uncommon for hikers in this region to attempt to climb all of these peaks. It is uncommon, however, to climb all of them in a single winter. To local hiking enthusiasts, this would be referred to as a SSW NE115. To my knowledge, Will is one of four people to have taken on this challenge. Snow, inclement weather, freezing temperatures, equipment and travel logistics pose many challenges in addition to the physical exertion and athleticism required. The trip covered ~583 miles of hiking and ~210,000 feet of vertical gain. All the while, Will has retained his full time job as a preschool teacher in Vermont. This was my first time meeting Will and he allowed me to film throughout the day. He is a lighthearted yet incredibly driven individual with a passion for finding unique physical challenges in natural environments. Some of his future goals include climbing summit lists in other areas of the United States and competing in ultra-marathon races. The Blue Angels practice at their home base, Pensacola Naval Air Station, near Pensacola Pass on the Florida panhandle. Just west of the pass is Redfish point. Between is a perfect anchorage for a south wind, which is where we are hunkered down behind the dunes. Before the upcoming storm, we take advantage of a perfect day to sail our 9ft Hood designed dinghy with a Norman Cressy sail out for a ride. We call her Lil’ Al. Lucky for us, “The Blues” practice day was this day! What a fun time we had, fighter jets soaring right above us while we were sailing in the bay. Thrilling. Once ashore, our path was interrupted by the nesting grounds of the shore birds. On the east end of the nesting restricted area we found a break in the dunes, probably from hurricane Sally, that gave us an easy path to the Gulf of Mexico to sit on the beach and listen to the surf.

Our liveaboard sailboat family of four head off to the San Juan Islands for the first time on our own boat. In this video you'll see us visit Clark Island, just off of Orcas Island. On our second outing we anchor for the first time off of Lummi Island before crossing over to Vendovi Island near Guemes Island. Shane paddleboards islands - one of the reasons why we're on the boat. He is circumnavigating the islands in the Puget Sound on his paddleboard. He's already done a number of them AND named rocks. The kids have learned a lot about the history of our area. I'm grateful for the opportunity for us all to witness the beauty of the Salish Sea. I hope this encourages them to be stewards of our waterways, it has for me. In this video we are cruising out from Squalicum Harbor at Bellingham Bay. Amazing marina and jumping off point if the San Juan Islands are your final destination. All of the islands we visit in this video are just a short distance from there by boat. They were excellent training grounds for us with a new to us boat. Our boat is a 41ft ketch made by SeaFinn, boat makers out of Finland. If the boat looks like a Nauticat, it's because it was made by former Nauticat builders. We loved this layout and craftsmanship compared to the Nauticats we looked at.

Here you can see a simple but very effective method of sharpening drill bits with drill jig. I made a simple jig for the bench grinder that makes it very easy to sharpen drill bits. They will be as sharp as new ones.

The children listened to Boris Herrmann talk about his passion for sailing and his love for the ocean.
