In this episode, I give a synopsis of the planking process along with details on how we installed the garboard planks on the Newfoundland Trap Skiff. This is followed by an in-depth discussion on the lining off of the hull which determines where all the planks following the garboards will land. Corrections: when discussing the division process, I erroneously remark that the result would be “irrational”. Technically this is not the case, however, even though in a strict mathematical sense the result IS “rational” it is nevertheless often not representable in the standard imperial scale. This would be true in the metric system as well. Therefore use of a division board is advisable. The 2022 Helly Hansen Womens Challenge (part of the Sydney Harbour Women’s Keelboat Series), was held on Sydney Harbour in the sort of conditions that have hallmarked much of Sydney’s very wet Summer and Autumn. Minutes before the scheduled start time a band a low cloud could be seen sweeping towards Manly from the Heads, bringing with it a torrential downpour that delayed the race start. When the race finally got away in clearing skies, a light and fitful easterly - oscillating to the south east and back - sent the fleet of two divisions on a multi-leg race around the Sound. Such was the on-off nature of the breeze that the finish of the Division 2 course was shortened to Camp Cove, only to see the yachts powering to the finish in a sudden burst of wind that swept in with the next band of rain!

After an early start we made good time on the road to Kilrush. With the sun sunning we ticked off a ling list of jobs to get the boat ready for the start of the journey. Fuel and water topped up, sails on the boat, new wind instruments up the top of the mast and we are ready to roll at first light in the morning.

We are still in the Grenadines. Mostly kiting and snorkeling. We also found a volleyball net. That ended up in an all nighter with some Belgians.

However, this week we managed to finally get Nakama back to being electrically self-sufficient, in preparation to being off gird once again. We have also gotten rid of our very old and very leaky windows and replaced them with very new and not at all leaky windows. We have a couple new creature comforts installed too and Nakama's engine will hopefully start the first time every time after installing a new starter motor.
