Ontem nós recebemos a visita do Secretário de Estado da Juventude e Desporto no Centro Internacional de Vela Vilamoura Sailing. O projeto colocou Portugal no epicentro dos grandes eventos internacionais de vela e que traz a Vilamoura centenas de velejadores em todos os invernos. Foram 56 países, 3 000 atletas, mais de 4 000 acompanhantes, perto de 200 000 dormidas. Tudo em 2021/2022. A visita acontece no âmbito das comemorações do Dia Internacional da Juventude que se celebra anualmente no dia 12 de agosto. Em pleno Boat Park da Marina de Vilamoura, João Paulo Correia teve oportunidade de assistir à chegada do mar de velejadores de todo o mundo que nesta altura se preparam para os campeonatos mundiais da classe Laser/Ilca (Ilca 4 e Ilca U21) que começam em Vilamoura, já dia 13 de agosto. Segundo o Secretário de Estado da Juventude e Desporto este é o ano em que Portugal regista o maior número de eventos desportivos internacionais, atingindo as 4 centenas, o que contribui para que o país seja cada vez mais um destino para seleções, clubes e atletas de todo o mundo. The project has placed Portugal at the epicenter of major international sailing events and attracts hundreds of sailors to Vilamoura every winter. There were 56 countries, 3,000 athletes, more than 4,000 companions, and close to 200,000 overnight stays. All in 2021/2022. The visit takes place as part of the celebrations of International Youth Day, which is celebrated annually on August 12th. In Vilamoura's Marina Boat Park, João Paulo Correia had the opportunity to watch the arrival of sailors from all over the world, who are currently preparing for the Laser/ILCA world championships (ILCA 4 and ILCA U21) in Vilamoura, on August 13th. According to the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, this is the year in which Portugal registers the largest number of international sporting events, reaching four hundred, which contributes to the country being increasingly picked as a destination for national teams, clubs, and athletes from around the world. Designed by Ceccarelli Yacht Design and built by world class Turkish luxury yacht builders Sirena Marine, Azlan’s innovative design combines both exciting performance on the racetrack along with the ability to cruise in complete comfort. Azlan was delivered new from the factory to her current owner and was specified with the ‘Fast Cruiser’ options of the deeper 2.1 metre keel and taller mast to enhance her performance. Fitted with headsail furler, boom bag with lazy jacks and auto pilot, she is also a simple and safe boat to sail shorthanded. Her sail wardrobe comprises of Doyle Sails Mainsail and Genoa as well as a Quantum Code ‘0’ on a furler that flies off her integrated bowsprit. She is fitted with simple but effective Raymarine ST40 Bidata instruments along with a mast mounted Velocitek ProStart time and distance to help with that perfect start. Stern tying is a very useful technique to master. In many parts of the world, due to depth or restricted swinging room, it's the only option. Where we are at the moment in Turkey it's the most common way to anchor. This video will look at the basic techniques used to stern tie effectively as well as give lots of tips to make everything go smoothly. We also go through what gear to use and what to avoid. Chilli Pepper is sailed by father and daughter duo Jim and Ellie Driver. Ellie learnt to sail in Trearddur Bay before following the RYA pathway in Oppies and 420s. She is currently studying Marine Engineering at Southampton University. Jim did most of his offshore racing for the Army team in the 90s.
