This video shows our first Atlantic Ocean crossing from Florida to the Bahamas. We left Lake Worth, FL on February 26, 2023 at 2:00 AM and arrived at West End, Bahamas 12 hours later. There wasn’t much wind so we motor-sailed most of the way. Our buddy boat, Victory (crew - Richard and Monica) was within sight the whole way across. Needless to say, we celebrated when we arrived.

The 7 ceramic ball bearings in a new Zircon block overcome inertia from friction so easily, information flows acutely through the sheet. Simply put, trimmers feel and better match sail shape to the new condition–often the difference between winning and not. Don't take it from us, though. Listen to Olympian and America's Cup athlete Riley Gibbs. Riley probably has more experience using Zircon than anyone on Earth. He was in the first test team that used them as part of his Nacra 17 mainsheet system in the run-up to the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Since then, he has used Zircon beta test blocks on his Nacra 17, A-Class Catamaran, 505s, E Scows, and Moths. ————— Introducing: 𝗭𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗢𝗡. Simply the most efficient small boat blocks Harken has ever made. Now available. At the core of Zircon performance are industrial ceramic ball bearings. It's all about the surface texture. Ceramic is much harder and smoother than steel or composite, so it requires less force to start moving. Why does that matter? Through the line, you feel even the slightest pull which enables you to fine tune a sail shape. In the lightest breeze, you can ease a sheet when others can’t. The ceramic ball bearings are mounted inside caged races. The cages keep these bearings apart so they don’t bunch up, touch, and stop each other. The result is a very free-running block with less energy lost to friction than in even our current Carbo blocks. Give an unrigged Zircon block a strong spin, and it spins for an incredibly long time. Zircon bearings are more than 700% stronger in compression than stainless bearings of the same size. So, they won’t deform if used within the recommended load limits. More importantly, they don’t absorb as much energy before starting to roll. This becomes evident when you need to ease a sail in very light air. You feel even the slightest fluctuations in sheet load. Designed by Bruce Farr, Kioni underwent a major restoration with her previous owners starting in late 2018 and continuing through 2019 in preparation for the 75th Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. She was rebuilt to the absolute highest standard and her improvements included, a full re-spray, new Volvo engine, new B&G instruments, new autopilot, new standing and running rigging, an extensive new wardrobe of predominantly Hood sails, new interior covers – and the list goes on. Hew new owners have continued to lovingly maintain her and added some of their own touches including a Bimini Cover and custom-made stainless-steel BBQ. Currently CAT 5 compliant with much of her previous CAT 1 kit still on board, Kioni is without doubt one of the best prepared Beneteau First 47.7's available today, and is a turn-key proposition to race or cruise.

After several videos featuring my own sailing here is one of a customers boat. It's of the famous black, lengthened and somewhat modified Eagle 24 catamaran. Originally a long video with German commentary, I have shortened it and there is no audio, as I don't speak German - so couldn't translate it. It was my first trip at sea on a multihull. In brief. I started in Bremerhaven, Germany and sailed non stop nearly 300 miles to Farsund, near Lista, the southwestern corner of Norway. For the first 50 miles I sailed upwind in force 2-3. The next 250 miles was downwind in force 3-6. The Eagle sailed very comfortably. Easy on the helm under any conditions. No tendency to pitchpole when I sailed between 13,5 and 14,5 knots in a force 5-6 down steep waves. On a broad reach it would be faster of course. But I didn`t change direction, as the tillerpilot was not working well. The last seven hours I reduced the sails, as I wished to reach the rocky coast in daylight. So I took 42 hours for the trip. All the way it sailed very easily and the structure seems to be very strong. The potential top speed I'll try for, when I have more experience and when I have an autopilot that works reliably, rather than sometimes, as on this trip - I'm always sailing solo. The potential of the Eagle shines, when I surfed downwind in gusts of more than 25 knots. The weather forecast predicted 2,5 to 3 m waves. I overtook waves in gusts for several hours. Under these conditions I heard the noise not only from waves, but sometimes vibrations from the hull and rudder dominated. But no spray on deck! The speed? I don´t know. Far more than 15 knots. My instrument shows only windspeed and direction. Although the speed was probably more then 20 knots, that says nothing. More important is the control of the boat. I could steer it anytime with my fingers. The way back was, as I expected, not a joy. The first 11 hours I hand steered and for 30 hours mostly in the direction of Great Britain rather than Bremen. The trip back lasted round about 55 hours. More than 50% at the helm. ( Late in autumn I got a new tillerpilot from Simrad. But I'll not take it in future. I decided to take a outsized system with extra computer, compass etc.) Ulrich

In this episode, we voyage to the Isthmus at Two Harbors, Catalina Island. We take on 73.6 gallons (a new record) of diesel to top of the fuel tank and motor thru dense patchy fog and rain to the island. After some deliberation, we decide to anchor at Little Fisherman's Cove. Fortunately, the swells are mild and we have a peaceful night at anchor. In this episode we are going to sail to Costa Rica. Unfortunaly we found ourselves up all night fighting the wind, waves and current almost making us decide to turn around. Later we find out this point is called Punta Mala, that's bad point or worst point in Spanish. Now we know why. On the internet you can read multiple stories sailors trying to sail around it and not making it. Lesson learned. Next trip we will defenatly read up first on the route we plan to sail. But it's not all bad. we end up sheltering in Playa Venao, an amazing calm bay with surfing, nice bars and a great surfvibe. And please if you like this vlog, hit that SUBSCRIBE button.
