Electricity is a very strange thing to work with. It's such an abstract concept compared to other boat skills I have learned. Even after shadowing a marine electrician and making a nuisance of myself for 2 days on my last boat, doing many wiring projects with my dad and a few on my own, I needed to review concepts over and over to ensure I was doing things safely. Often I would have a fake "aha" moment, just to realize a minute later that I was totally backwards. It took weeks longer than I was expecting, and hours of mapping out the system. Now we are 95% of the way to an off grid vessel, we just need to install the DC2DC and the solar panels! Another thing that blindsided me was the sheer cost of all the components. The downside of having a more complex off grid system on a larger boat is everything is big and priced accordingly. I had a heart dropping moment when I had bought 1 bags worth of some large Guage wire and it cost $400! A video report covering the 2023 DF65 (Dragon Force) and DF95 (DragonFlite) Traveller Trophy event held at Lincoln Radio Sailing Club on 1st & 2nd April 2023. This event is part of an ongoing series of Model Yacht Racing events for DF65 & DF95 classes held once a month at various locations across the UK during 2023. Lincoln Radio Sailing Club is a very active club and regularly holds major Model Yachting events on the water at Scotland Farm. The DF65s raced on Saturday and DF95s on the Sunday. There was a large turnout for this event of 40 DF65s and 52 DF95s on Sunday. The racing was keen at this event with GBR team practising for the forthcoming Global Regatta at Fleetwood in May 2023. Radio Sailing (Model yacht racing) is a competitive form of yacht racing run along similar lines to dinghy racing and keel boat racing. Model yacht racing is a sport in which small sailboats under one metre in length are raced against each other in a controlled environment such as a pond, lake, or indoor swimming pool. Model yachts can be made of various materials such as wood, fibreglass, or plastic, and are powered entirely by using the wind. The sails of the yacht are adjusted by the sailor (Helm) using a radio control system to catch the wind and move the boat forward. This is the reason the sport is often referred to as Radio Sailing The races are typically organised in rounds, with multiple boats racing at the same time, and the winner being determined by which boat crosses the finish line first. Model yacht racing can be enjoyed both as a competitive sport and as a leisurely hobby, and is popular in many parts of the world. Participants in model yacht racing often have a deep passion for sailing and the art of building and racing model boats. They may spend hours tuning and adjusting their boats to achieve maximum speed and manoeuvrability, and may also socialise and exchange tips and advice with other enthusiasts.
