Day -1 Daily Highlight | Youth Sailing World Championships – Vilamoura Day -1 in Vilamoura was all about setting the scene for an incredible week ahead. The Youth Sailing World Championships officially kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony, featuring a parade of nations as 424 sailors and 166 coaches marched country by country, followed by group photos on stage, a dance performance, and a flash mob that brought the night to life. Earlier in the day, we spent time at Vilamoura Marina, visiting Casa Portugal, the VIP lounge, and had the chance to chat with David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, and World Sailing President Quanhai Li about the championship and what it means for the future of youth sailing. Today is a training day, with the first day of racing starting on the 15th. Stay tuned for more daily highlights as the action unfolds on and off the water. 📍 Vilamoura, Portugal ⛵ Youth Sailing World Championships #YouthSailingWorlds #DailyHighlight #DayMinus1 #Vilamoura #WorldSailing #OpeningCeremony #ParadeOfNations #SailingLife

Six months ago, we bought a sailboat… even though we barely knew how to sail. We’re Camille and Jesse — an American & Australian couple who quit a “normal” life, lived in a car, and worked in the Australian mines for a year and a half just to save every dollar for one dream: buying a sailboat and learning as we go. This video is a full six-month recap of everything that happened after we bought Stella in Malaysia — the good, the bad, the terrifying, and the unforgettable. From leaking gearboxes, engine removals, electrical failures, and exploding toilets… to our first sails, first anchor nights, storms, medical emergencies, climbing the mast underway, and crossing international borders at the tail end of monsoon season. We went from total beginners to sailing across countries, battling 40-knot winds, dragging anchor at night, getting fishing nets wrapped around our prop, and discovering some of the most beautiful islands we’ve ever seen — all while adopting a tiny kitten who somehow became the captain of the boat. This is what six months of learning to sail really looks like. If you’ve ever dreamed of: • living on a sailboat • learning to sail later in life • quitting the traditional path • or chasing a wild, uncertain dream …this one’s for you. Fun fact: Moon jellyfish don’t really sting… but I still couldn’t make myself jump in with them! 😅 While we were anchored in Neiafu, Tonga, we had a daily bloom of moon jellies. When we dove the wreck, we swam with a few — but under our boat there were hundreds. I dropped the GoPro in to see how many were cruising by, and if you look closely, you can spot them in the background too. The visibility wasn’t great, but the tide would sweep them past the boat like they were flying! #moonjellyfish #tonga #neiafu #sailinglife #oceanmagic #underwaterworld #sealovers #goprovideo #oceannature #jellyfishbloom #cruisinglife #wildlifemoments

Sri Lanka completely surprised us. 🌴🌊 What started as a practical stop on our Indian Ocean sailing route quickly turned into one of the most memorable parts of our journey. From surfing warm waves along the south coast to wandering the historic streets of Galle Fort, this country welcomed us in ways we didn’t expect. In this episode of Sailing with Six, we explore Sri Lanka both on land and at sea — surfing at spots like Ahangama and Madiha, riding tuk-tuks through busy streets, tasting local food, and spending a full day inside Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site shaped by Portuguese, Dutch, and British history. Back at the marina in Galle Harbour, we settle into a very different kind of marina experience. It’s not perfect — but it’s safe, friendly, and practical, giving us the space we needed to reset. The kids even take the opportunity to repair and repaint their well-used surfboards, turning the grassy marina surrounds into a temporary workshop. We also lend a hand to another yacht passing through on their way to the Mediterranean, reminding us once again how supportive the sailing community can be. Sri Lanka turned out to be a stop we’re genuinely stoked we made — and now, refreshed and grateful, we’re preparing to take on the next stretch of the Indian Ocean. 👉 If you’d like to support our journey and see behind-the-scenes updates, early releases, and extra content, join us on Patreon. On our journey back south, we finally made it out to Lady Musgrave Island after trying a few times along our journey but never finding the right weather window. This time the forecast looked perfect, so we joined about 20 other boats heading into the lagoon, where the water is turquoise, crystal clear, and full of turtles. Despite all the chatter about how tricky the entrance can be, we found it one of the easiest reef entries we’ve done – short, clear, well-marked, and with plenty of moorings. It’s an amazing spot if you get the chance to come out. But then things got intense. Late at night we answered a VHF call for a welfare check on another boat – in the dark, at low tide, inside the reef. And just when we thought we could relax, a storm rolled through with lightning and unexpected 39kn winds. Two boats dragged anchor and it turned into one anxious night for everyone inside the lagoon. Thankfully, everyone was safe, and we made a quick exit the next morning to the shelter of the Burnett River. Gosh, storm season at sea… not for the faint-hearted! Thanks for watching. Welcome back aboard Moor R & R! Episode 19 We’ve finally left Mackay behind and pointed Moor R & R toward the stunning Scawfell Island — a destination we’ve been eager to reach for a long time. The sail across the bay definitely kept us on our toes. What we expected to be a calm, easy crossing turned into a lively ride with stronger winds and bigger waves than we planned for. But that’s sailing life… unpredictable, humbling, and always rewarding in the end. As soon as Scawfell Island came into view, every bump, splash, and gust felt worth it. The island rises out of the water like its own untouched world, and we could instantly see why so many sailors speak about it with such appreciation. It’s an absolute unspoiled treasure — wild, peaceful, and beautifully secluded. Once we dropped anchor, we headed off to explore and were blown away by how many hidden creeks and passages reveal themselves at high tide. Each one felt like stepping into a quiet, secret pocket of nature. Calm waters winding beneath thick green bush, bird calls echoing in the stillness, and the kind of tranquility you can only find on an island that remains largely untouched. Scawfell has that rare ability to make you breathe a little deeper and move a little slower. It’s the kind of place that resets you without you even realising it. kicknbakfloats.com.au Discount Code - MOOR15 for a 15% discount Come on board with us as we wander its shoreline, discover its tucked-away gems, and soak up everything this gorgeous island has to offer. This is another beautiful chapter of our sailing journey on Moor R & R — and we can’t wait to share it with you. Come along for the highs and lows of life at sea – the joy of community, the challenge of sailing, and all the fun we get up too !!! The time has come. With the uncertain future of UP Boats, I made the repairs and modifications necessary to splash our UP340, Miss Annemarie, named after my mother from a piece of art commissioned by my father. We properly trimmed the outboard motor and took the UP340 through some initial paces before hoisting her up and securing her aboard “Moments in Time” We are not happy with the build quality of our UP340. It appears that UP Boats, LLC has gone dark and is questionable if they are still in business. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! Become part of the conversation by liking https://www.facebook.com/SV.MomentsInTime/ *** Please Read *** During our dinghy review process, we conducted thorough research—examining manufacturers and speaking with multiple owners to gather their insights. In our videos, we explained why we chose the UP340 from UP Boats, LLC, based in Opa Locka, Florida. It met all our criteria and was proudly made in the USA. Unfortunately, our UP340 arrived 14 months late and already showed visible damage while still on the delivery truck. The damage turned out to be structural, and we immediately reported it to UP Boats, LLC. Despite having shipping insurance and receiving repeated assurances that a replacement would be provided, none ever arrived. As of July 10, 2025, all communication with UP Boats, LLC has ceased. It now appears that UP Boats, LLC is no longer in operation. Numerous complaints and legal actions have been filed by other buyers, indicating we are not alone in this experience. A quick online search for UP Boats reveals a troubling pattern. We will soon be posting videos on this channel detailing the problems we encountered with our damaged UP340 and the steps we had to take to make it marginally seaworthy. In hindsight, the cost savings from purchasing the UP340 do not justify the compromises we faced. We would have been far better off investing in a proven, high-quality Offshore Cruising Tender such as the OCT 350. *** End of Read ***

Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. This video is just some highlights from my very chill light wind session last week. Good to get the light air practice as well just to get out on the water even if there was not enough breeze to foil. Enjoy!

Most people think surviving storms offshore is about having a strong boat. Heavier. Tougher. Overbuilt. It’s not. Offshore seamanship is the art of keeping a boat in balance: aerodynamically, structurally, and mentally. When a boat is balanced, energy stays manageable. When it’s not, energy builds until something breaks… or someone gets hurt. In this livestream, I break down several real-world examples; near misses, fatalities, and structural failures — to show how the same imbalance manifests in very different ways. This isn’t about blaming individuals or reacting for clicks. It’s about understanding force, judgment, and why “adding strength” so often makes things worse instead of better. If you sail offshore, or plan to, this mindset matters more than any piece of gear. If you want to go deeper into offshore judgment, storm tactics, and real-world seamanship, my book Be The Captain was written for exactly that purpose. Book: https://bethecaptain.com

#boatfoolssailing #sailing #pocketcruiser Is This the PERFECT Pocket Cruiser? $8,000 Mint Bayfield 25 Sailboat | Full Tour On a blustery winter day in coastal Maine, with temperatures hovering around 15°F, I took a solo ferry trip to Islesboro to inspect what may be one of the best pocket cruiser sailboat finds under $10,000 — a 1986 Bayfield 25 that’s been in indoor storage since 2018. This Bayfield 25 is being sold by an estate, with an asking price of $8,000, and aside from the unknown condition of the Yanmar diesel, the boat appears to be a genuine time capsule — clean, original, and remarkably well preserved. Unfortunately, Canadian Ken and Captain Q (Captain Kew) couldn’t make this one, making it a true solo BoatFools mission: winter ferry schedules, cold decks, and a classic little cruiser hiding on a Maine island. In this video, I do a full walk-through and honest review of the Bayfield 25, covering condition, layout, design, performance, value, and what to watch out for before buying. Finding one in this level of preservation — on an island, in winter, at the low end of the price range — raises a lot of interesting questions about value. Think of this episode as both a boat tour and a practical lesson in how to assess a small cruising sailboat. If you’re shopping for a pocket cruiser, a shoal-draft Maine cruiser, or a classic sailboat under $10,000, this is one you’ll want to see. - Drop your thoughts in the comments — would you take the winter ferry for a boat like this? And as always… get a survey. See you next time! -BoatFools Sailing Team

When heavy equipment meets tight clearances, things get interesting fast. This episode is one of those moments where everything slows down, everyone’s watching closely, and every single inch matters. We’re getting our diesel hybrid engine off the ground and into the cockpit — which sounds straightforward, until you remember we’re working with tight clearances, heavy equipment, and zero room for mistakes. What you’ll see here is a lot of planning, a lot of problem-solving, and a reminder that with a catamaran… even installing a single engine often means doing things twice. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes projects that really shows how much coordination goes into moving something this big without damaging the boat we’ve spent years building. After this huge moment of stress, we move back indoors to the ease of conduit.  Ease of emotions that is, because fitting myself back into some of these cupboards to glass still requires a little training in gymnastics. But after getting these holes in our bulkheads sanded down and glasses, soon I'll be able to go back to my favorite task of fairing and priming. In the *next* episode, things get even more exciting as we bring the engine inside the boat and start maneuvering it into its final home in the aft guest berth — a huge step toward this system actually becoming part of the boat. As always, thank you so much for being here and supporting us. Your encouragement, comments, and backing truly make moments like this possible, and we’re incredibly grateful to have you along for the ride. 💙⚓️

Six days into our Atlantic crossing, the ocean is finally starting to show its teeth. The crew is back together—Brett, Ayanna, Jade, Dingo, and Penny—and we’re settling into the long middle stretch of life at sea. Days blur together with watches, editing, cooking, small routines, and the constant motion of the boat. At night, the water glows with bioluminescence. Behind us, the stars are coming back as we move farther from Saharan dust drifting off Africa. But conditions are changing. The wind has built past 20 knots, speeds are climbing, and forecasts show larger seas ahead—15 feet and beyond. With the boat starting to roll more aggressively, this will likely be our last video for a short while as we shift focus fully to sailing and safety. If uploads pause, everything is okay. We’ll continue sharing updates through our PredictWind tracker (linked below), and we have a full safety team monitoring our progress. As soon as the seas settle, we’ll get the videos out. Thank you for being part of this crossing with us—your ghost crew out here in the middle of the Atlantic.
