+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This year we didn't fly to Athens to get to our boat, instead we drove to Greece with the camper via the eastern land route. The arrival was not only very interesting, but also had a deeper meaning... Welcome to our vlog documenting our epic sailing journey from Portugal to Gibraltar, Part 2! In this video, we will be sharing with you the incredible experiences and challenges we faced as we traversed the beautiful waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Our journey begins in the stunning coastal city of Lisbon, Portugal, where we set sail aboard our trusty vessel, eager to take on the open sea. Over the course of several days, we battled strong winds and treacherous waves, navigating our way through the unpredictable elements. But just when we thought we had seen it all, disaster struck. We found ourselves in the midst of engine issues, struggling to keep our vessel from drifting back into fishing nets with a torn sail we had to call for rescue. Despite the danger, we persevered and help soon arrived to tow us back to safety. we are now Barbate where the orca attacks are happening daily waiting for repairs to be made then we will be leaving into the hot zone of where boats are getting there rudders broken by a rogue pod of orca. Join us on this unforgettable journey as we share our experiences, insights, and thrilling rescue in this epic sailing adventure from Portugal to Gibraltar!

Our time in Split, Croatia is drawing to a close, and as we plan to move on we're not liking the idea of taking a very smelly boat with us!
TWENDE is an outstanding example of 52 SporTop built by CNB Yacht Builders in Bordeaux, France. She was the 19th of 20 to be built by Lagoon. The 52 SporTop has gained an enviable reputation as a capable and comfortable platform for long-term cruising. You will find a wealth of independent blogs and information on-line extolling the model’s virtues. TWENDE’s specification is perfectly conceived for a world cruise but is equally suited to exploring secluded anchorages closer to home. The deck layout, helm position and rig plan make her safe and easy to handle short-handed as well as delivering great sailing performance. Her four-cabin layout allows an extremely generous owner’s suite, a VIP suite with separate access from the cockpit and proper doubles cabins forward with en-suites. TWENDE can be handled by a family crew but has the generous accommodation to share your experiences with family and friends as well as the ability to carry all the accessories needed to make your cruise special. A change of plans results in a fantastic opportunity to acquire a fabulous catamaran for early delivery. NOTABLE FEATURES • The SporTop layout provides a well-protected helm and close connection to the crew • The boom in particular is more easily accessed than with flybridge layouts • The design delivers better sailing performance and easier handling • The owners’ suite offers great comfort and space • The aft guest cabin enjoys a separate and direct access from the cockpit • One of very few 52s to benefit from the latest walnut interior finish with light floorboards • Sophisticated battery and charging for great autonomy • 19 kWh lithium battery bank, 9.5Kw generator and 2000W of solar panels • Upgrade to electrical aluminium davits 300kg with seating across aft deck beam • Aluminium hulled dinghy with Yamaha 25hp outboard • Fully battened main, self-tacking headsail as well as storm jib, Code 0 and cruising chute • Expensive options such as underwater lights, dive compressor & high-capacity watermaker To see all our listings: www.aberyyachts.com
I wanted to be able to raise and lower the anchor from the helm. the remote available from the manufacturer is over $350 with the control box, but you can get a 2 channel remote and control box from AliExpress for under $10 ( I paid 13 because I wanted a second remote) and it works great! Here's the link to the remote and receiver I used: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mq0Ga4k
Finally a hot water shower. I have a water tank connected to a pump connected to a splitter. one feed from the splitter goes to a 30 liter water heater, and then to the hot side of a thermostatic mixing tap, the other side of the splitter goes directly to the cold side of the mixing tap. The mixing tap is connected to a shower head. It might sound like a lot but it's actually very simple.
If you've had trouble with your 12V water pump acting out on you. Shutting on and off or simply not working make sure to watch this video. Cut version of test flight for different angle of attack controllers (not shown in this video). Complete system flight test, with all modes of operation. Flight conducted completely autonomously, only high-level commands (such as "hover now") were given. 0:00 Intro 0:10 Take-Off 0:38 Reel out Tether 1:04 Rotate Landing Perch to Back 1:27 Trans-In 1:44 Figure Eight Flight 3:03 Trans-Out 3:32 Rotate Landing Perch to Front 4:03 Reel in Tether 4:46 Landing Kite size: 2.4m wingspan (1:4 scale of 100kW product). Location: Oberbiberg near Munich, Germany Date & time: 21 March 2023, around 1 pm. Name of kite: SN8 "Stiffy" (due to upgraded, stiffer tail) Additional chapter information: * Take-Off. In-between flights the kite is parked on the landing perch on the ground station. Once conditions are suitable the kite goes into hover flight, undocking from the ground station. * Reel out Tether. While in hover, the tether is reeled out from the winch on the ground station. The tether attaches the kite to the ground station mechanically and feeds electricity to the kite during hovering. * Rotate Landing Perch to Back. The landing perch is rotate to the backside of the ground station during figure eight flight to free up the space between the ground station and the kite. This way, the tether can move freely. * Trans-In. Once the tether is complete reeled out from the winch, the kite accelerates into figure eight flight mode. * Figure Eight Flight. During figure eight flight, the kite can produce energy, which then reverses the power flow: The onboard propellers (the same that were previously used for hovering) are now used as small wind turbines and produce power aboard the kite. The kite harvests the energy from the wind. During this mode the kite feeds electricity to the ground station and the grid. * Trans-Out. When the flight has to be terminated, e.g., due to a change in weather conditions such as too low wind, the kite transitions out of figure eight flight and back into hover flight. * Rotate Landing Perch to Front. To reel in the tether, the landing perch is rotated to the front again, catching the tether and thus, making sure it is winched correctly. * Reel in Tether. While the kite maintains hover flight, the tether is reeled in, onto the winch. * Landing. Once the tether is reeled in completely and the kite's landing hooks docked to the ground station, the kite ramps down its propellers. It is now securely parked and ready for the next flight. This approach allows us to harvest the energy from the wind more efficiently than conventional wind turbines, because we only use around 10% of the materials. We had the opportunity to be a part of an amazing fishing event called Battle of the Branches. It's a day for military members, veterans, and their families to find community in fishing. There were 11 boats involved, including the Legend who took home the jackpot fish. Cat was the USCG Charter Master, accompanied by her dad who is a USCG Veteran, for the day aboard the Grande. Thank you to the crew who were absolute rockstars and took great care of everyone aboard. We're so thankful for the military members who fight to protect our freedom every single day. We were so happy to support this event and are looking forward to next year already.
Cruising through a narrow channel. Our 180 meter bulkcarrier and a massive LNG tanker - cross paths, creating a spectacular sight to behold. Navigation in narrow waters poses unique challenges due to limited space, tidal and current influences, vessel interaction effects, reliance on navigational aids, considerations for vessel size and draft, and the impact of weather conditions. Successful navigation requires precise maneuvering, constant awareness, and a blend of human expertise and advanced technology to ensure the safety of the vessel and its surroundings. LNG vessels, also called LNG carriers or LNG ships, are specialized ships designed for transporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) across oceans. These ships are vital for moving LNG from production sites to distribution terminals, where it can be turned back into gas and used. LNG vessels are crucial for global energy trade, moving natural gas from areas with abundant supply to places with high demand. As the world looks for cleaner energy options, LNG is important as a transitional fuel due to its lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to other fossil fuels.

Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit #sailing #boatlife

I arrive in the Berry Islands following an overnight passage from Eleuthera. I drop anchor behind Little Harbor Cay, a beautiful spot, but rather unprotected from the forecasted brisk westerly winds. So I sail around to the anchorage between Devils Cay and Hoffmans Cay, which offers better shelter. This turns out to be quite a challenging day for the engineless sailor. Join us on our sailing adventure as we explore Long Island, USA.. We embarked on a scenic tour of the island, went shopping in a monster truck and learned about the island's history, even the Rolling Stones stayed here in the 70's! Our day ended with a traditional South African braai with awesome friends. We anchored off a man-made barrier built to combat erosion and picked up guests to start our journey towards the big apple, New York. We had a great overnight sail with newbies on board and met the lady herself, the Statue of Liberty. We love having visitors on board, sharing our knowledge of sailing and starting great friendships. Come along and experience the beauty of the Long Island to New York City sailing adventure with us! A big shoutout to all our subscribers, you guys rock! We are two crazies from South Africa, Frik & Petro. We knew absolutely nothing about sailing, but the ocean has always been calling. So we got rid of all our stuff, bought a Leopard 45 Catamaran, and set sail. Follow us as this story unfolds! This is a sea-life adventure captained by a couple of nomads who have built their lives on doing what inspires them in the moment. Join us and see how we break free of the traditional lifestyle, creating videos of our journey, adventures, life on board, and lessons learned along the way. It will be super rewarding if we can be an inspiration or contribute in any way to anybody wanting to fulfill their dreams. SISU (Finnish concept) is a grim, gritty, white-knuckle form of courage in situations where success is against the odds. Taking action against the odds and displaying courage and resoluteness in the face of adversity, in other words, deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision even despite repeated failures.

A 5,000-mile-long mass of sargassum has been slowing the boats as they race to Newport, Rhode Island. The Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt doesn’t just impact the teams, it affects wildlife, infrastructure and peoples’ health. The seaweed is increasing because of human activity. Tackling the climate crisis and using sustainable farming methods that prevent nutrients leaking into the environment could be key to helping reduce it.
