Our last week of sailing in New Caledonia before we cross to Vanuatu. In Prony Bay we get company, the Grand Large Media team comes on board and makes a very nice parallel video of our time together.

Si pour nous cette arrivée dans le Pacifique s’est bien passée, ce n’est tristement pas le cas pour nos amis sur leur catamaran Atlantide Catana 🥲 Nous vous partageons, le terrible récit de leur mésaventure 🥲 Leur situation est aujourd’hui critique. Après 10 jours dans une attente insupportable, ils dévoilent leur tragique histoire… Leur rêve s’écroule aux portes du Pacifique 🥲 Ils ont besoin d’un grand soutien et de bienveillance ❤️ « récit de notre journée du 29 avril 15h15 nous passons la dernière écluse de Miraflores nous voilà dans le pacifique, dans 5 jours grand départ pour les Marquises avec nos 4 enfants de 14,11,8 ans et notre petite dernière arrivée en Martinique de 4 mois. 15h20, le pilote du canal ( plutôt désagréable depuis le début de journée) me demande de m'arrêter et de me mettre sur les côté du canal pour laisser passer un Cargo. Dans moins de 5 minutes il doit descendre du bateau, nous sommes juste avant le pont de l'america entre les bouées 17 et 19, j'exécute les ordres sans discuter même si au fond de moi je ne vois pas l'intérêt de m'arrêter puisqu'il y a largement la place pour le cargo de passer et d'ailleurs les 2 autres voiliers avec qui nous sommes passés dans l'écluse continuent leur route. il y a un peu de courant et Atlantide sort très légèrement du canal, je ne m'en inquiète pas étant avec un pilote ( qui on apprendra plus tard n'est en fait pas un pilote) qui doit parfaitement connaître la zone.Il est là pour notre secteur. 15h25, le cargo est passé le pilote me redemande de mettre les gaz,ce que je fais mais dans la seconde qui suit nous sommes posés sur des rochers. Panique à bord ,je commence a m'énerver contre le pilote et lui demande de trouver une solution pour nous sortir de là vu qu'il nous a mis dans cette situation.La marée descend, il a la bonne idée de demander à la lancha qui venait le chercher de nous tracter en arrière. Laetitia lui crie dessus en lui disant que c'est une mauvaise idée, trop tard il nous a encastré dans les rochers et le bateau prend beaucoup d'eau. Les enfants pleurent, la situation est critique car nous prenons vraiment beaucoup d'eau. 16h30 , laetitia ,les enfants et mes parents évacuent le bateau. je reste seul à bord avec le capitaine du port venu organiser les opérations de sauvetage d'Atlantide. Ces opérations de sauvetage vont durer jusqu'à 1h du matin avec la mise en place des pompes puis l'intervention des plongeurs pour colmater la brèche. 1h 30 les équipes du canal me laissent seul sur une bouée. 3 h je rapelle les équipes du canal , un feu s'est déclaré dans les boîtiers à fusibles. j'arrive a contenir le feu. Dans l'urgence j'ai oublié de couper les batteries du bateau ( aucun sauveteur du canal n'y a d'ailleurs pensé). heureusement que je ne m'étais pas endormi 😪, le bateau continue a prendre beaucoup l'eau les plongeurs reviennent et repartiront a 7h du matin. la cagnotte que l'on va mettre en place c'est juste pour les choses non prise en charge par l'assurance a savoir le logement pendant 4 mois, la location de voiture et l'école pour les enfants qui ont tout perdu » Voici le lien de leur Page Facebook https://www.facebook.com/meta.macajou.7

Last month we had the pleasure of hosting our annual Short Marine Shootout and what a day it was!  We kicked off in the early hours of the morning, stationing all around the North Head ready for the shotgun start. At 4:00pm all fishing stopped and everyone headed back to Short Marine HQ to exchange stories, have a beer and present the awards for all the winning categories (and there were a few!). We want to extend a massive thanks to everyone who made it out to the event and joined in the fun but particularly our sponsors who made the event what it was by generously donating over $25,000 worth of prizes. Ten years ago we lost a legend. Andrew 'Bart' Simpson was a world-class sailor, an Olympic gold and silver medallist and a true leader within the #BritishSailingTeam. Bart was also one of the nicest and most helpful guys you'll ever meet. And boy, could he party 🙂 Nothing can bring Bart back, but he lives on though the Andrew Simpson Foundation, and of course in our hearts. #SailOnBart

Unsere diesjährige Mai-Regatta ⛵️⛵️⛵️ war wieder ein voller Erfolg. Nachdem am Samstag leider die Wettfahrten, wegen zu wenig Wind abgebrochen werden mussten, konnten wir am Sonntag insgesammt 5 Rennen durchführen. So konnten wir in allen drei Kategorien, Regatta-, Fahrten- und Jüngstenboote, Sieger ermitteln. 🏆 🥇 🥈 🥉 🏆 Für das leibliche Wohl wurde an beiden Tagen pefekt gesorgt. 🍔🍔🍔 So konnte man beide Tage gemüdlich ausklingen lassen.

ORGANIZZA UNA VISITA CON UN PERITO Nei precedenti video abbiamo individuato la barca che fa al caso tuo, sei andato a vederla, ti è piaciuta, hai fatto la tua offerta e cosa ancora più importante il venditore l’ha accettata! Benissimo! Dovrai solamente chiamare l’agenzia per le pratiche e sarai finalmente il proprietario della tua nuova barca! No, sbagliato! Manca ancora un passaggio super importante: fare visionare la barca da un perito! Ti ho già raccontato la mia esperienza nella puntata n.5 dove abbiamo visto insieme come dovrebbe svolgersi la visita alla barca. Se non l’hai ancora vista ti racconto in breve. Pur non avendo molta esperienza, per l’acquisto della mia prima barca ho deciso di non avvalermi dell’aiuto di un esperto. Ne ho pagato lo scotto i mesi a venire spendendo moltissimi soldi per lavori non preventivati. Se avessi consultato un perito in fase di acquisto, sicuramente mi avrebbe allertato per tempo. Quindi non fare il mio stesso errore! Ok, però la barca ti piace molto e non vorresti perdere tempo e fartela scappare. Nessun problema potrai procedere al preliminare di acquisto, ricordandoti di inserire la clausola indicante che il tuo impegno a comprare è subordinato al buon esito della perizia. Chiedi ad un’agenzia che si occupa di pratiche nautiche, loro ti diranno precisamente come procedere. Ritorniamo alla perizia. Tale verifica tecnica è nella maggior parte dei casi a carico dell’acquirente, compreso alaggio, varo e sosta in secca nel caso in cui la barca dovesse trovarsi in acqua. Non mi preoccuperò di essere ripetitivo... soprattutto su barche di medie/grandi dimensioni, di conseguenza costose e su imbarcazioni datate, un buon professionista specializzato sarà una figura chiave nell’acquisto della tua barca, quindi affidati ad un perito esperto e per quanto possibile conosciuto! Anche se hai assoluta fiducia nel venditore, le barche possono avere dei difetti strutturali che neanche l’armatore più meticoloso poteva conoscere, come ad esempio vizi di costruzione indolenti. Nel pratico la perizia si concentrerà sulle analisi dello scafo, del bulbo, del timone. Verrà ricercata la presenza di eventuale umidità con appositi strumenti che misurano il livello di umidità in carena. Un’altra verifica importante che verrà effettuata sullo scafo è la presenza di segni di sinistri riparati e quindi non visibili ad occhio nudo. Per questo verrà verificato l’accoppiamento fra la chiglia e il fasciame per esempio. Verranno inoltre esaminate valvole e passascafi per individuare la presenza di ossidazione. Come vedi un perito farà dei controlli che difficilmente dei semplici marinai come noi potremmo verificare, per questo la sua visita sarà così importante. Per quanto riguarda il motore, solitamente ti rivolgerai ad un meccanico specializzato. Nel caso in cui i controlli tecnici rilevassero delle problematiche importanti, potrai accordarti con il venditore per una riduzione di prezzo, o per una riparazione a carico del venditore. Potrebbe anche capitare di non trovare un accordo, in questo caso il contratto preliminare perderà efficacia. In questo caso se le problematiche della barca non potevano essere sconosciute al venditore (come ad esempio una riparazione dovuta all’impatto dell’opera viva con il fondale) anche la perizia dovrebbe ricadere sull’armatore. Ma ti consiglio di chiarire questo punto con il tuo perito ed il venditore prima di procedere alla pratica. A questo punto vogliamo pensare che la perizia della barca abbia avuto un esito positivo e quindi nella prossima puntata ti racconterò quali sono le procedure burocratiche che ho dovuto intraprendere per diventare armatore della mia nuova barca! After three weeks on the ocean, it's time to deal with the aftermath - cleaning up the boat! On Christmas Eve, mr Neptune decided to give us a very considerate gift in the form of a crashing wave, soaking both inside and outside of the boat. We cleaned best we could, but there was still a lot of salt spray that needed attention once we reached the Caribbean. And it turned out, that was not the only gift we were left. More salt that had pushed into our hatches, and barnacles growing above the waterline. So, let's get to it and get Linnea ready for all those Caribic adventures waiting around the corner!
