Can I show you my carbon bowsprit - SAILBOAT REFIT Welcome back to sailing NV, after 2 hot sweaty years on the hard stand in Fiji, transforming our Open 66 into a fast family cruiser, it’s great to be sailing again, and especially to be flying are giant gennakers. This video is about the process we went through to modify our bowsprit to enable us to both fly our gennakers further forward as well as having a system to raise and lower our anchor. Having a bowsprit sticking out the front to allow us to fly the gennakers further forward than the bow was important for us because our gennakers were designed this way as NV used to have a bowsprit in her racing days, so like this it keeps them far away from head sails and enables them to fly better. This looks cruisey now - but the process of getting here wasn’t always so breezy. The stories of any old wooden sailboat are scribed in her planks: both rough and meticulous repairs, sistered ribs, planks replaced due to exposure or rot, a separating of functional parts, signs of hogging or caving. For 12 decades, various owners worked to maintain Dorothy, the lovely wooden yacht to the best of their abilities. Some hired shipwrights to re-plank and repair her. Some updated her with modern elements to suit how they wanted to sail, such as winches. Her original owner W.H. Langley swapped out her centre-board for a fixed lead keel sometime in the early 1900s. Under some owners, she lost her shine, was subject to fires, abandoned to languish on docks with the peril of freshwater soaking her decks, until someone was captivated by her lines and rescued her again. Over 127 years, a sailboat collects a lot of stories. And with Dorothy too, it's she's a small boat, she's not a big yacht of some kind. She's small sailboat that can be maintained. These planks aren't as tight as they should be... You can see the caulking on the inside here. The gravity just starts pulling it, trying to change its shape, because they're designed to sit in the water. Ah neat, how they put this together, it's kind of revealing. Again it gets back to that point of being able to look into a boat that was built of that era, and being able to dig inside and find markings and and scribes, where the boatbuilder had marked a plank or marked a piece of wood inside. I get to see that and be part of that history".

Bluefin tuna fishing has slowed down a bit in the last week or so, but we're seeing kelp paddy yellowtail be a bit more active. They're pretty line shy, and some paddy's that are holding lots of fish don't produce a ton of bites, but it's still early in the season for prime paddy fishing. Cat covers technique for getting a fish out of the kelp. #girlswhofish We were able to scrape out 1 night time bluefin tuna. Schools are hard to find & even harder to stay on top of right now, but we're still fishing at night! Come prepared either way. It's bound to turn on again, it's just a matter of time.

The islands are full of coconuts and we've been having so many! But the only challenge we had was cutting them open properly. So we started the week off by going machete shopping, and we found one. We love drinking the coconut water, it's so fresh and tasty! Then we headed to the island and had so much fun playing soccer, eating ice cream and geocaching. After that we decided to head back to the main Guadeloupe island since we wanted to go to Church on Sunday. We've met so many people with beautiful hearts every time we go to Church during these adventures. It is always such a delight! We keep getting soaked from the sea water every time we're on our way back to the boat from the Church visits, it's so fun 😂. In the evening we were chilling on the beach with our French friends. It was us, the pretty view and a bunch of coconuts. We had an amazing time! Enjoyed the video? This is the official "test sail" of a new Leopard 50 for Mark and Holly O'Leary as they take ownership of their exciting new home, transport and classroom for their 5 year old daughter Maddy - all with 360* swimming pool! The forecast for the day is 10 knots in protected areas but 30 knots in the exposed coast so Mark CHOOSES to sail in the highest winds possible to "properly test" the boat and its capabilities. We experience 35 knot winds and reach 11.9 knots and shake the boat through many tacks and a gybes in these strong winds - and did the head tear off the mast? Did the gooseneck break as it flew across or did the mainsheet rip out of the traveller - all of which have occurred on other boats in these conditions.... The boat is also allocated the most favourable time to be blessed and named by a buddhist monk and the ceremony is arranged to suit that advice. Hear great advice from Paul Badenhurst, a seasoned veteran of Atlantic crossings having done the trip 50 times! This is also a clue as to the sort of advice you will get on the full crossing videos as he is the captain for our 7000-8000 mile crossing... The opening stages as far as the ‘Tout Commence en Finistère’ waypoint promise to be particularly tricky. This video sees sailing yacht 'Confidence' get a complete hull wrap. Vinyl wrapping, is the application of a self-adhesive Multi-layered, high performance cast PVC film. We used Oracal 970 Rapidair. The video was filmed over the period of a year, so we can see how the vinyl wrap fares under normal boating. Kölelik kaldırıldığında da burada kalan halk buranın yerlileri olmuş. nsanlar güler yüzlü ve yardımsever. Balık pazarları, taze sebze pazarları oldukça renkli. Okyanus balıklarını deniz kenarında temizliyorlar ve tuzluyorlar. Çok da hijyenik görünmüyor. Balıkçılık önemli bir gelir kaynağı. Tarımsal alanlar kısıtlı olmasına rağmen Avrupada bulamadığımız sebze ve yeşillikleri burada bulduk. Marketlerde başka ülke kredi kartı geçmiyor. Nakit alışveriş yapıyorsunuz. Atlas okyanusunu geçmeden önceki son liman Mindelo. Sokaklardan taşan müzik insanların sıcak, fakirlik ve işsizlikle de mücadele etme gücü. Akşamları küçük barlarda harika canlı müzik yapılıyor.
