We arrive super early and it's still pitch black at about 7AM. So we get the drone out for some eerie shots of a deserted lake! Then, with a Lake Bala smooth as an "Ice rink", we have absolutely no wind at all today. So the outboard is dropped in and we have a play with the drone. In fact I have an issue with the tracking on my Air 2S that I need to test specifically. After this we go exploring a coupke of new places we have never been to before we take advantage of the still lake and have a speed test. Check out the speed graph at the end of the video. Unfortunately, my Perkins M60 marine diesel engines raw water cooling system failed, letting the coolant out, and raw salt water in, the aluminum head acted as an anode and was eaten away by electroless letting water into the cylinders and destroying the engine. I tear the engine down in this video and diagnose the problem.
Hearing the words "remote island Japan" is one thing. Seeing it in person is another. And having the opportunity to sail through its clear, blue waters? That's a dream come true. In this episode, I sail to my third port on this unique Island called Amami. The port is called Koniya in Setouchi and is popular among Sailors and a good typhoon hole. Before I leave the deep inlet of Uken, though, I welcome my friend Esteban who has come for a few days. He teaches me the proper way to each spaghetti, and together with local guide Matt, we visit some charming and out-of-the-way local eateries. All under the excellent tutelage of a local guide and a man of the jungle, mountain, and sea, Matt Pride. My mate Mitsu also accompanied us to Koniya but did not make it into any of the shots for some reason. Next time! Once to Koniya, meeting up again with Rui, a JP YouTuber, is great. He and Koru live aboard their boat. https://www.youtube.com/@Umi-Fune And I met others who live aboard, including a solo sailor from Hokkaido and a young man from Sendai. We anchored outside of the two sounds at Green Turtle Cay. Both were too shallow for us to get into and anchor. It wasn’t that far of a dinghy ride to the dock. We dingy’d ashore and explored the island on foot with Richard and Monica, enjoying a beverage at some of the bars and restaurants. What a fun day!

It's all about visualizing the problem. Follow our series "Building the Catalina Wherry" where we tackle the tough stuff with simple solutions.

Yakel Village is one of the most traditional communities in Vanuatu. Located in the central part of Tanna island, this tribe still holds on to their long held traditions using their traditional grass dresses and practicing their tribal Kastom dance, with which they enjoy themselves like if there was no tomorrow. Their houses are still made of wood, bambu and palm leaves keeping them much fresher in sunny days than modern brick, mortar and tin roofed houses. But the most surprising aspect of this tribe is how happy they are with so little, how united as a community.

Video tour of Privilege 75 catamaran in Spain
Today, I want to share with you a beautiful video time lapse of our passage through the Magellan Strait. Here, in the south of Chile, the harsh climate and stunning landscapes alternate, creating a captivating atmosphere. We pass by massive mountains that seem almost impassable, but in reality, they provide protection against raging winds and inspire a sense of respect for nature. Against their backdrop, our 180-meter bulk carrier seems quite small. However, one of the most interesting things you'll see in this video is how day turns into darkness in just two minutes. I hope you enjoy this video and experience what I felt when I first visited this place. #magellanscross #magellan #seaman

Fountaine Pajot Tanna 47 Welcome back to Navel Gazing at Camp David. This week we are heading to that iconic French multihull town of La Rochelle and the home of this week's guest yacht… The Fountaine Pajot Tanna 47! The Chateau de Sancerre winery is located in the Loire Valley of France and has a rich history that dates back to the 10th century. Originally built as a medieval fortress, the chateau was later converted into a winery by the monks of Saint-Satur in the 12th century. The vines planted by the monks were among the first in the region, which has since become famous for its crisp and mineral-driven Sauvignon Blancs. Over the centuries, the Chateau de Sancerre winery changed hands many times, passing through the ownership of various noble families and eventually being sold to private investors in the 19th century. In the 1930s, the vineyards were almost entirely destroyed by phylloxera, a pest that had a devastating effect on European vineyards. However, the chateau's winemakers were determined to rebuild and replant, and they succeeded in restoring the vineyards to their former glory. Today, the Chateau de Sancerre continues to produce world-class wines that are known for their vibrant acidity, crisp minerality, and elegant fruit flavors. The winery is committed to sustainable farming practices and uses modern techniques to ensure the highest quality grapes. With a history spanning over a thousand years, the Chateau de Sancerre winery remains one of the most iconic and respected wineries in France. Innovation Corner • Fountaine Pajot Tanna 47 web page: https://www.catamarans-fountaine-pajot.com/en/sailing-catamarans/catamaran-tanna-47/ • Sharrow toroidal props: https://www.sharrowmarine.com/store/mx?gclid=CjwKCAjw_MqgBhAGEiwAnYOAeqFqp9XrqlkPmR-jaBpRLARkbVKWvoWtGbUyEvPguGhYzAmmSkGSSxoCaPcQAvD_BwE The Sharrow toroidal propeller has been gaining popularity in the boating community due to its promised efficiency and improved performance. This propeller design is unique compared to the traditional straight-bladed propellers as it is shaped like a donut or a toroidal ring. This shape creates a "vortex ring" that increases the propulsion efficiency and reduces fuel consumption. According to Sharrow Engineering, the inventors of this propeller design, the Sharrow toroidal propeller can provide up to 9% fuel savings and a 12% increase in speed compared to straight-bladed propellers. These statistics were backed up by a water tank test conducted by the University of Michigan in 2015, where a Sharrow propeller showed 9.5% more propulsion efficiency than a traditional propeller. In addition, the Sharrow toroidal propeller has been tested in real-world situations, and results have been positive. In a field test conducted by the National Research Council of Canada in 2019, a Sharrow propeller was tested on a commercial fishing vessel. The test showed a 26.3% reduction in fuel consumption and a 24.2% increase in speed compared to the vessel's original propeller. Art of The Region For our art of the region pairing today we are enjoying Eugène Boudin's painting, Bateaux de pêche à Douarnenez (1886) Eugène Boudin was a French painter remembered for his beach scenes and landscapes. Born in Honfleur, France in 1824, he spent most of his life in and around the coastal areas of his hometown. His paintings typically depicted the idyllic scenes of the beaches and the lives of fishermen in the area. Boudin's work marked the beginning of the Impressionist movement, and he is considered a precursor to this school of art. He received recognition and accolades in his lifetime, including several medals from the Salon, and his paintings are exhibited in prominent galleries and museums around the world. Eugène's painting, Bateaux de pêche à Douarnenez (1886), captures the essence of one of the most picturesque fishing ports in Brittany. The painting depicts a bustling harbor, filled with fishing boats and small vessels, which appear to be returning from a long day at sea, bringing in their catch. According to recent auction records, this piece has been sold for over $1 million. The painting is characterized by Boudin's typical impressionistic style, which is evident in the light and brushstrokes he uses. The azure waters that surround the boats are painted in different shades, creating an interplay of light, color, and texture. The sky overhead is a bright blue, with white wispy clouds that add to the overall effect of lightness. Sail away Fountaine Pajot Tanna 47 ~ $ 1,267,346 USD
After finding great crew, finally, Rebecca Childress nearly finishes her 14 year circumnavigation aboard SV Brick House, but stops 100 miles short in Great Inagua. 100 more miles to go! Josh finds our anchor chain has twisted in to a giant knot and has to unravel it. He shows how he does this, and explains the two models of the Mantus Anchor Chain hooks / snubbers that we have on this sailboat. She sets up the Iridium GO to take over the datahub and they put up the running pole and depart offshore for the Bahamas! At least now Rebecca has found very good crew, who carry on with her for the rest of her circumnavigation, making the rest of the ocean passage very pleasant. Rebecca has felt the great burden, responsibility and risk of making sure her boat is seaworthy and safe! For better or worse, it is paying off... she is almost there now...has almost finished her 14 year circumnavigation . What will come next for Rebecca Childress and her sailing life? Honestly..until she finishes the circumnavigation, she is just for once, trying to not think too far head and just enjoy the last few ocean miles she will sail...this year... ▬ FOLLOW ALONG! ▬▬ ✩Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/svBrickHouse ✩ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/SYBrickhouse ✩ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SVBrickhouse ✩Our blog: :http://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com ✩Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/PatrickChildress ✩Tshirts and other: https://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com/store Support us to keep the videos coming: 🍯(Tip Jar) http://whereisbrickhouse.com/tip-jar/ ⏩ PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/SVBrickHouse ⏩ Sign up for a FREE membership here: https://www.predictwind.com/?ref=rebeccachildress ⛵️ TWO FREE SAILING COURSES: http://whereisbrickhouse.com/sailing-school ⏩Start your Amazon shopping here: https://amzn.to/2K9MmuA ⏩Tshirts and other: https://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com/store #sailingAfrica #PatrickChildressSailing #TravelsAnimals #sailing #sailboats Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC7DRvfDAoFn5eMyfTnaA8w/join Music Credits Islandesque by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100315 Artist: http://incompetech.com/ Santo Rico by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://www.twinmusicom.org/ Endemic Sounds provides much of the music in this sailing video as well.

I leave the island port off the SW coast of Iceland and proceed up the West Coast, visiting 6 ports in the majestic Western Fjords. Nothing 'dramatic' happened along this passage (good news), so I took the opportunity to demo in some detail my (imperfect) gybing and tacking procedures. I also show some aspects of using Raymarine's AIS system. (I still have much to learn before this is mastered.) Also, I show the difference between Predict Wind's 50 km GRIB presentation and the free Icelandic Met Service. Not much debate there.....
Welcome aboard, we hope you can take a little time out of your day to sit back, relax and join the crew of Expedition Drenched on a sailing adventure to the edge of the world in our very first DOCUMENTARY! In this full documentary, we'll take you on a rare journey through Tasmania's rugged coastline, showcasing its stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems. From fluffy wombats to playful dolphins, curious seals, and giant sea birds, Tasmania is home to some of the most unique and fascinating creatures on the planet. But the path less travelled is usually that way for a reason… And that’s because this is no easy journey. To sail around this island we had to be prepared for some of the most tiring and testing sails we’d ever experience. All the while, filming as much as we can of the journey and what we discover, in the hope that it will inspire profound care and love for our natural world. #sailing #sailinglifestyle #seamanship Seamanship, can it be taught? In my opinion no. You either got it or you don't. Like talent. You can't teach an artist, musician or athlete to be great. They just are. And should one have a sailing license? I didn't for several years and nothing ever happened. Kinda like driving without a driver's license and not getting caught. Heat 3 wooohoooo. Who is going to go to the final? Details of the S2 9.2m thanks to Kevin. Actually it is all there in the video, so freeze frame it and screen save it. Seems I am a bit lazy of me but my wifi is going to run out in about 10 minutes and I need to get this out. It is a project boat with work to be done by you but the S2 9.2m is a great boat capable of excellent adventures. Look it up in Sailboatdata.com and use my videos from the past to look at it's performance. It is similar to and also better than alot of very popular boats . We are back to the Tuamotus... but only just for a quick dive. We stopped off at a nearby atoll to see our friends and have one last dive with them before they sail on to the Cook islands and us back up to the Marquesas. It was nice to get a good nights rest after 3 days sailing, giving us a little break before we set sail and forge forward to the Marquesas. It feels so wonderful getting back in the water our here in these remote isolated islands and although this time short and sweet we absolutely love every moment we get. We continue our journey to the Marquesas and on the way we catch a tuna, or should I say a tuna caught us and started pulling us. Maybe they heard we didn't have any wind and wanted to give us a ride! Join us EVERY WEDNESDAY for a NEW EPISODE and be sure to SUBSCRIBE to our sailing adventures throughout the Pacific Ocean!
