We put the new Cruisers Yachts 38 VTR to the test to see how its hybrid stepped hull handles the open water. With a top speed of 44.2 MPH and a versatile five-layout cockpit, this plumb-bow weekender is a significant design departure for the Oconto-based builder. In this Boat Test we take a deep dive into the 38 VTR features, a unique running surface designed for a flatter plane and reduced drag, providing a stable, efficient ride even in a chop. During our sea trial, we powered the 38 VTR with twin 300-hp Mercury Verado outboards. We recorded a cruise speed of 24.1 MPH at 4000 RPM, proving its efficiency as a long-range dayboat or weekender. Beyond the performance data, we explore the on-board amenities, including the innovative portside beach door, the stand-up wet head, and the optional roof rack for adventure gear. Welcome back to another episode of WE|Sail. Last episode, we left you hanging. Warren's nav panel project hit a snag—one component failed, and we had to wait weeks for a replacement part. Well, it finally arrived, and today Warren's finishing what he started. But that's not the only thing happening in this episode. We're exploring our first Fijian village, meeting locals, and learning about life beyond the resorts and tourist spots. We do a quick Sevusevu ceremony—presenting kava to the village as a sign of respect—which grants us permission to anchor and explore freely. We also bushwhack our way up a hill for an incredible view... until Warren has a complete meltdown over a spider. And just when we think we're settled for the day, the anchorage conditions shift. The winds pick up, and we're forced to move around to the other side of the island for better protection. What could've been frustrating turns into one of the most beautiful afternoon sails we've had in Fiji—stunning scenery, perfect wind, and a reminder that sometimes the unexpected moments are the best ones. I then take the loaded brush to my face. Adding small amount of water to the brush tips, until I build a nice lather. The shave is a three pass shave. First pass, with the grain. Ce chantier fondé il y a une quinzaine d’années propose notamment des monocoques allant de 8,20 m jusqu’à 25,10 m, et a également réalisé des IMOCA. Pour ces derniers, ses compétences en matière de construction en carbone y sont clairement pour quelque chose. È stata un’altra puntata ricca di spunti tecnici dove abbiamo cercato di capire come funzionano questi F50, anche nelle condizioni di vento leggero incontrate a Sydney. Protagonista della puntata è stata l’Ingegnere aerospaziale, e velista professionista, Andrea Emone, analista dei dati del team italiano Red Bull Italy SailGP Team. E proprio con Andrea abbiamo cercato di capire alcuni segreti del suo ruolo: i numeri di queste barche, ovvero una grande quantità di dati rilevata dai vari sensori di bordo, rappresentano delle informazioni spesso complesse, il compito di una data analyst è quello di “tradurre” in modo semplice i dati che arrivano dalla barca, sintetizzarli e metterli a disposizione del coach e dell’equipaggio. After 600 demanding miles around 11 Caribbean islands, and with no remaining competitor able to better her corrected time, Leopard 3’s performance under the IRC rule stands unbeaten. The result secures a second overall IRC victory for Leopard 3, repeating her success in 2024. Leopard 3 has a rich history of victories in the race, dating back to the first edition in 2009. The 2026 edition was Leopard’s ninth ‘600 campaign under project-manager Chris Sherlock. “It’s a surprise to win it,” said Joost Schuijff taking part in his fifth race, reflecting on Leopard 3’s overall IRC victory. “Black Jack was very strong, congratulations to them for line honours. There are other boats on IRC rating that would easily match us. So yes, it’s a surprise but I think it was due to our performance and lack of problems. It was the best 600 that we ever sailed here in Antigua.” Laura de Vere taking part her third race agreed. “It was super exciting. We are thrilled, over the moon.” For Schuijff, the difference this year was cohesion and preparation. “We have not been sitting still. We’ve been optimizing the boat. The team has been working on it for a very long time. Compared to previous races, where we would always have some issue with equipment, this time people didn’t make mistakes. We got to the finish without a critical issue. That was the best race we have done in that respect.” The upgrades were deliberate. “There are three things that are different compared to the last race: rudders, interceptor and sails. The sails are a new design with a very smooth surface and less drag, so more efficient. The rudders are remarkably different, and everything with the interceptor was calculated. We’ve been running a lot of data programs, and the result was that these three things would really help us and that’s what we did.” The battle with Black Jack was intense and tactical. “From Guadeloupe to Barbuda is always difficult for us because we didn’t bring a masthead zero, so there’s a gap in our sail plan,” Schuijff explained. “That’s when they ran away from us for six or seven miles, their strong point. But upwind we point higher and do very well in waves, so we caught up again. They were about 30 minutes ahead at the finish, line honours to Black Jack and we were surprised to win it on corrected time in the end.” De Vere described the emotional arc of that final stretch. “On the last watch, coming close to shore after a hard race, you suddenly feel how exciting it’s been. We knew we were finishing behind Black Jack, but to still have a chance for IRC Overall that gave us collective excitement on board.
