Boomies Captain Boomies (aka Capt. Kate) holds a 200-ton USCG license and worked on superyachts for 20 years, captaining vessels up to 150’ before retiring years ago. She now is a delivery skipper of all manner of vessels. When not testing boats for BoatTEST, she often can be found taking new yachts off their cargo ships in the port of Baltimore, getting them operational, then delivering them to dealerships. Unbeknownst to dozens of boat owners in the Chesapeake Bay, Capt. Boomies was actually the first skipper of their boats. She is also active in boat instruction and making videos for her personal website. *Capt. Gregg Captain Gregg Clark holds a USCG 100-Ton Master/200-Ton Mate license with sailing and towing endorsements. He has over 3,000 documented days of sea service. He currently owns a 56’ Vicem, a 40’ racing sailboat and a 17’ Mako. Capt. Gregg has powered and sailed over 50,000 miles offshore and has raced in many of the world’s premiere distance sailboat races. He is a graduate of Purdue University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business from the Krannert School. He has captained motor yachts up to 120’, sailboats up to 100’ and is active teaching teens and adults boat handling skills. It would be fair to refer to this boat as the Ute of the Sea. She's a solid thing that will keep you comfortable with all the necessary luxuries but she's also built on a great foundation so will be perfect for those of you looking to utilise a RIB for some more serious boating. The performance is outstanding... potentially a little too exciting for some of you so consider getting this boat with LESS horsepower depending on your mission. I like that she's been built with lifting attachments for a crane and they have also designed in some comfortable features like that fold down aft sun lounge. Overall I can see a wide variety of missions that this Highfield will excell in so I hope this video gives you an insight into whatever you had in mind for this boat and if it will suit your boat life? You'd think with over a year of being beginner sailors that I'd know how to fish already...but with Josh on the troll most evenings and me balancing boatjobs, cooking and editing, it just seems a better use of our time to do what we're best at. But with a bit of time to kill and Josh wanting to share his hobbies with me, we thought we'd go for a few flicks to double our chances at getting dinner. This episode is an extended cut of the true life of novice sailors and how we spend time when there's a lot to spend! We foul our freshwater tanks and resort to harvesting an abundance of coconuts to get us by until we reach mainland again. Join us for a cruisey episode and a glimpse into the true yachty life 🤎 We’re a little behind on our videos - we’re just having too much fun! Kojiro Shiraishi is the skipper of the IMOCA DMG MORI in the Vendée Globe. At the age of 26 he became the youngest sailor to complete a non-stop single-handed circumnavigation, twice finished 2nd in the solo BOC Challenge. He’s also a big fan of Star Wars, and his favourite character is Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is his third Vendée, having competed in 2016 and 2020, and on 11th February 2021 he became the first Asian sailor to complete the Vendée Globe, finishing 16th. With the same boat, refitted with new foils, he is aiming for a top 8 position in this edition. Ambre Hasson spoke with Kojiro via a translator in Les Sables d’Olonne to find out more, while Kojiro found out more about Ambre’s Mini Transat campaign!
In the second installment of our client interview series, we talk to long-term boat builder Kevin, owner of a new Cure 55. Kevin talks through what led him to choose Cure Marine over other boat manufacturers, what is so important to him in a boat build, why he likes our innovative manufacturing and why the Cure 55 is the ultimate lightweight, carbon fibre, performance catamaran. #curemarine #catamaran #catamarans #catamaransailing #boatbuilder #boatbuilding
Lobster Boat plug... DONE! The plug is the most critical piece of the project, since it will be used to make the mold, which will be used for every Lobster Boat boat we make. It needs to be flawless so that the future hulls that come out of the mold will be flawless, too. Check out that shiny mirror finish. *chefs kiss* 🤌 We start building the mold next week!
Conrad Colman grew up in New Zealand, went to High School and College in America, and then immediately went to Europe having fallen in love with the Vendée Globe. Well travelled and highly experienced in many fields, Conrad is used to wearing many hats, which stands him in good stead for solo offshore sailing! This is his second Vendée Globe, having competed in 2016/17 where he completed the final 740 miles to Les Sables d’Olonne under jury rig after being dismasted. This is also the second time he is competing with a boat which is entirely fossil fuel free, powered entirely by renewable energy. When he finished the 2016/18 edition he was the first skipper to complete the Vendée Globe using no fossil fuels.
The 2024 edition will be Justine Mettraux’s first Vendée Globe, but she is no stranger to offshore racing, having competed in many singlehanded and crewed events, including the Figaro, three Ocean Races, the Mini Transat, the Transat Jacques Vabre and the Route du Rhum. Hailing from landlocked Switzerland, the Vendée Globe seemed a far-off dream initially, but she steadily built her experience and reputation, grabbing opportunities when they were presented and is now the skipper of Teamwork-Team Snef.
