SAILING ILLUSTRATED #887 (Fri 28 Nov 2025) — Will GBR, NZL, AUS or ESP take home the $2million winner-take-all prize? Will the injury to Pete Burling's (NZL) hand keep him off the Black Foil's wheel? If so, who will drive? Will this week's signing of Harry "H4" Melges (USA) to Team USA improve their dismal Season Five performance — even if he does not sail this weekend? Sailing Illustrated airs live on Facebook (fb.com/sailingillustratedblog) and the Sailing Illustrated TV YouTube channel every Tuesday and Friday at 1300 Pacific, or watch a replay on-demand later. Join us in this incredible episode as we set sail through the stunning waters of Moreton Bay and experience a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with whales up close from our liveaboard sailboat. As full-time liveaboard sailors preparing to sail around the world, moments like these remind us exactly why we chose this lifestyle. Whether you're passionate about sailing adventures, fascinated by marine life, or dreaming of travelling the world by sailboat, this episode delivers all the magic of ocean life in one unforgettable day on the water. In today’s sailing vlog, we take our cruising sailboat out into the beautiful blue of Queensland’s Moreton Bay for what we thought would be a casual day sail—until a pod of whales decided to join us. Watch as we navigate under full sail, maintain safe distances, and use proper seamanship while witnessing these incredible giants glide through the water. For beginner sailors and sailboat owners, this episode also offers valuable insights into real-world sailing conditions, wildlife awareness, and what it’s like to handle a liveaboard vessel when the unexpected happens. Our channel is all about the liveaboard sailing lifestyle, exploring the world, and sharing the highs, lows, challenges, and pure joy of life afloat. If you’re curious about offshore cruising, ocean passages, marina life, anchoring techniques, or simply what it’s like to live on a sailboat full-time, you’re in the right place. We document every step of our journey as we prepare for our circumnavigation—one bay, one island, and one adventure at a time. This Moreton Bay sailing episode is packed with real sailing footage, close-up whale activity, and stunning views that highlight why so many people fall in love with the idea of travelling the world by sailboat. If you love sailing videos, yacht life content, cruising vlogs, whale encounters, marine wildlife, or dream of starting your own liveaboard journey, this video is for you. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along as we continue our journey toward becoming full-time world-cruising sailors. From day sails and boat projects to offshore passages and island exploring, we’re excited to take you with us on every mile. Thanks for watching and welcome aboard! It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been a year and a half since our first sail ever. That's right a year ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sail up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. Each experience we have and each new sailing skill learnt just keeps bringing us closer to taking off to sail around the world in our Beneteau Oceanis 430 @SailingAstridTheWombat living our boat life dream. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat and downsizing our house so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we start to get our boat prepared for liveaboard life. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. Today is a big moment for the Spirit Formula 40 Trimaran project. After three years on the hard at Portland Yacht Services, Spirit is finally back in the water — and moving under her own power again. In this video, I take you step-by-step from the yard, off the dock, out through the Casco Bay Bridge, and into Fore Points Marina. It’s the first time Spirit has slipped her lines in years, and clearing that bridge means we now have a long, open runway ahead of us. Next stop: Boston. Spirit will be hauled there for the next stage of her revival and racing program. --- Upcoming Sponsor Events - Maxi 'Osprey' – Limited Places Available: – RORC Caribbean 600 -23 Feb 2026 – Antigua Sailing Week - 22 April 2026 – Newport Bermuda Race 19 June 2026 If you’re interested in joining an event (min sponsorship $3000 US) or exploring further RTW sponsorship options, contact me directly via: https//:www.CSMtheMariner.com Mariner Links If you'd like to buy a piece of the 100,000Nm mainsail that has pulled so faithfully these last 3000Nm, to get me here on time to start the Fastnet, please follow this link to Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/themariner/shop/own-piece-of-mainsail-that-would-not-die-1996232 If you'd like to gain access to live streams, competitions, win sailing trips, or purchase personal marine consultancy, please go over to: https//:www.patreon.com/themariner Sailing Podcasts If you prefer an audio format, try 'The Mariner Podcast', which now has a library of over 130 episodes, all over an hour and in granular depth about sailing technicalities, stories, interviews, and gear reviews. In this episode, we face the hard truth of just how challenging sailing in Brazil can be! Follow us as we head further north towards Recife, making a pit stop at Porto de Suape for a much-needed break. But what was supposed to be a quick rest turns into a serious challenge when Excelsior runs aground. Her portside keel gets lodged on a massive, uncharted coffee rock within the channel. As if that wasn’t enough, our friends on TAO end up stuck in the mud too! Now, we’re stuck waiting for the tide to shift and get us free. Will we make it out unscathed and still reach Recife, or will this turn out to be a bigger setback than we planned for? Tune in to find out! Help Us Grow! The YouTube algorithm has changed, and smaller channels like ours need your support more than ever.

Sailing from Tasmania to New Zealand – 1200 miles across the Roaring Forties. Three weeks of storms, calms, lightning, seasickness, technical failures and unforgettable moments with albatrosses and dolphins. The toughest but most beautiful passage of the last five years. Arrival in Nelson – without an engine, but with a boat full of stories.

BLACK FRIDAY BOOK DEAL: FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING: https://bethecaptain.com After 90,000 ocean miles, four Pacific crossings, losing a forestay, a knockdown, and a catamaran literally splitting in half… I’ve realized something nobody talks about: Most of the danger offshore doesn’t come from storms or gear. It comes from the mindset mistakes that every sailor makes without realizing it. Today we’re breaking down the 6 hidden fears that quietly sabotage your sailing, wreck your judgment, and stall your cruising dreams before you ever leave the dock. This video is NOT about gear, checklists, or fancy upgrades. This is the stuff that actually matters when everything is going sideways offshore and everyone is looking at YOU. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THIS VIDEO • The six fears that kill more cruising dreams than money or storms • Why you rush when things go wrong (and how to stop it instantly) • The “fight or flight” trap every sailor falls into offshore • Why gear isn’t seamanship — and what actually is • How fatigue rewires your brain and destroys your judgment • My “Law of Compounding Chaos” (L&A January Issue) If you’ve ever wondered why some sailors sail offshore while others stay tied to the dock, these 6 mindset shifts are the difference. GET THE BOOK. BE THE CAPTAIN. My #1 goal with this channel is to help you become the calm, confident, capable captain your crew trusts when it matters most. 🚨 Mayday Off Hatteras: I Took the Call for S/V Magic Bus! Coast Guard & Navy Logistics Revealed This isn't just a rescue story—this is a **first-person, minute-by-minute account** of a life-and-death maritime emergency, straight from the voice on the other end of the line. When the owner of the sailboat ***Magic Bus*** called me for help, reporting they were taking on water 260 nautical miles off Cape Hatteras in early November, I was thrust into the center of a complex, long-range operation. Join me as I pull back the curtain on the incredible, unseen logistical challenge mounted by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Navy to save five people abandoning ship into a life raft far out in the Atlantic. **Here’s what you’ll hear:** * **The Initial Distress:** What was said in those critical first few minutes, and the immediate steps *I* took to relay their position and situation to Sector North Carolina. * **The Impossible Range:** 260 miles is a stretch, even for the Coast Guard's MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter. **I'll explain the critical inter-service cooperation** required, as the heavy-lift assets had to coordinate with the **aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush** for a high-stakes, mid-mission fuel stop. * **The Logistics of Survival:** From the deployment of the long-range HC-130 Hercules to locate the raft, to the precise movements of the Coast Guard Cutter, we break down the military coordination that turned a near-impossible scenario into a successful recovery. * **Lessons Learned:** What the crew of the *Magic Bus* did right to ensure their survival, and what every sailor needs to know about preparing for a true offshore emergency. This episode is a must-watch for every cruiser, racer, and long-distance sailor. It highlights the vast, powerful, and seamless system that is activated when your safety is on the line. **🔔 Don't forget to like and subscribe for more deep dives into sailing safety and stories!** --- **What did you find most surprising about the Coast Guard and Navy coordination in this rescue? Tässä tarinassa jatkamme matkaa Gräddöstä kosteassa kelissä, koska haluamme pitää kiinni tavoitteestamme ehtiä Kööpenhaminaan ajoissa. Purjehdus vie meidät Merikarhujen tukikohtaan Särsöön – mutta perillä odottaa yllätys: satama on aivan täynnä eikä sinne mahdu edes väkisin. Onneksi. Koska juuri sen ansiosta löydämme läheltä unohdetun vaihtoehdon, joka osoittautuu koko reissun todelliseksi helmeksi. Hyppää mukaan tähän siivuun matkaa, jossa huonolta näyttänyt tilanne kääntyy lopulta täydeksi voitoksi.

We sailed to Mazatlán, Mexico to experience the 2024 total solar eclipse with our sailing family, old pals, new pals, and Mazatlán in general! From dance parties on deck to late-night Banda music, ocean swims, beach days, and epic reunions, this passage reminded us why we fell in love with the Sea of Cortez and Pacific Mexico in the first place. Mazatlán was directly in the path of totality, so we dropped the hook, prepped the cameras, and joined hundreds of others to witness one of the most breathtaking natural events on Earth — something we’ll never forget.
