Nous quittons le magnifique port de Gaios, sur l’île de Paxos, pour poursuivre notre voyage au cœur des îles Ioniennes. Première escale à Antipaxos, réputée pour ses eaux turquoise, avant de mettre le cap vers Leucade, où un superbe mouillage nous offre un moment de calme au cœur d’un décor exceptionnel. Notre route nous conduit ensuite jusqu’à Fiscardo, sur l’île de Céphalonie, l’un des derniers villages de pêcheurs authentiques de Grèce, où le temps semble s’être arrêté. Before setting off on the next big adventure, Mirage needed some attention - and quite a few new spare parts! In this episode, I tackle a long list of repairs and upgrades: replacing broken fittings and sensors, repairing the dinghy, restoring the teak, improving the anchor bridle, servicing the engine, fixing the chain counter, and upgrading several electrical and sailing components. With everything finally back together, I take Mirage across the Chesapeake Bay to Hooper Island for a five-hour test sail. And since summer on the Chesapeake can be brutally hot, I also test one more surprisingly useful upgrade - a small portable air conditioner for the cabin. She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main ‘action’ cameras are an Insta Ace pro 2 and a DJI Action 4 while the ‘big camera is a Canon R50. All use Dji mini wireless mics or a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. The narrowboats that travel along this canal move at a maximum speed of 4 knots, and often cruise along much more slowly. Pedestrians on the tow path easily outpace the boats, but that's part of what makes the trip so magical; by slowing way down, boaters are able to drink in the fresh air and absorb the astounding views of farmland that feeds the people of Wales. Canals once provided a vital transportation network for goods in the United Kingdom before the advent of the railroad. As needs and technology changed, many of these canals fell into disuse, but over the past 50+ years, through a combination of local activism and government support, these canals have been transformed into one of the most beautiful ways to travel through the UK.
