Join us in Rebak Marina, Malaysia, as we take on an extensive series of repairs and upgrades to bring our boat back to top condition. What began as a routine haul-out quickly turned into a major project when we discovered significant corrosion on the prop shaft. This unexpected setback required us to dismantle the C-drive and arrange for the shaft to be fully rebuilt. Alongside the mechanical work, we completed a wide range of maintenance tasks essential for long-term reliability and performance. This included sanding, cleaning, and applying fresh antifoul to the hull, as well as polishing and waxing both the topsides and the hull sides. We carried out fibreglass repairs, fitted a new windlass motor, galvanised the anchor and chain, replaced the guard rail, and tidied the safety netting.The bow thruster and main propellor were also both serviced as usual. To improve safety and electrical grounding, we installed a new bonding strap and rebonded the propeller shaft. We also upgraded our ageing flexible solar panels, stitched the coverings for the dinghy chaps and spray hood, and ensured every detail was ready for the season ahead. After several months of continuous work, we managed to complete the refit just in time for a relaunch before Christmas. In dieser Episode installiere ich eine gebrauchte Taylor's Dieselheizung auf meiner Beneteau First 375 „Scirocco“ in Kroatien, damit ich auch im Winter weiter segeln kann, statt das Boot einzuwintern. Dank der monatlichen Unterstützung meiner Community auf Patreon konnte ich mir diese stromlose Dieselheizung nach langer Suche günstig am österreichischen Gebrauchtmarkt leisten und nun endlich einbauen. Bei Bura und später starkem Jugo suche ich den besten Einbauort, schneide den Borddurchlass für den Schornstein und baue außen einen Holz-„Donut“, damit der Kamin trotz Dachschräge gerade sitzt. Mit Aushärtezeiten und finalem Test vor der Kamera dauert der gesamte Einbau ganze drei Tage – pünktlich zum Start der kalten Saison in Kroatien, in der über 90% der Boote schon an Land stehen. Die Taylor-Heizung läuft künftig oft im Dauerbetrieb, und in den nächsten Episoden von Sailing Scirocco gibt es immer wieder kurze Einblicke und meinen ehrlichen Erfahrungsbericht im Winterbetrieb. What is the best firearm for self-defense on a sailboat in case of a piracy attack? As long as the weapon is legal to possess where you are: Handgun: Best for minimal space to stow &. But worst for accuracy and stopping power. I would most recommend a Stainless Steel .38/.357 revolver or something like a Glock 19 in 9mm. Semi-Auto Rifle: Best for accurate over long ranger & penetration. But worst for legality likelihood to possess or size to stow. For this I'd recommend a reliable AR15 that is corrosion resistant, or a Ruger Mini 14 in stainless steel. Shotgun: Best for single shot firepower & likelihood of hitting in difficult conditions. But worst for it's large and bulky size. I would recommend a Mossberg Mariner or what I used in this video is a much cheaper alternative "Citadel Mariner". Lights, Medicine Chest, Jump roping, Savannah, Propane, Dancing We travel up to Savannah to enjoy the holiday sights. The River walk and squares are becoming decorated for the upcoming holiday season. Even the Georgia Queen is donned in garlands and red bows as she makes her way up the river. The medicine chest floor in the owner’s cabin over the years had begun to sag. Using a small hydraulic jack Steve was able to boost it up so it is once again straight. He also added some additional wood and a fake wall which hides the wires running through the cabinet. It really dressed it up and Karen is excited about using it again. Putting up holiday lights all around Isabella’s deck and eating a festive turkey dinner is how we’re getting the season off to a jolly start. Of course following that yummy dinner, going to the gym and jump roping was the next activity. In the last episode you all saw us remove one of the horizontal 20 pound propane tanks that was on board. It had a bit too much rust. This time it was replaced with a new 11 pound propane tank which sits upright next to the remaining 20 pound tank in the port side lazarette.
