Scopriamo la Nuva M9 usata, una barca open fuori dagli schemi, spaziosa e versatile, ideale per chi cerca comfort, prestazioni e tanto spazio a bordo. In questo video la vediamo nel dettaglio e la portiamo in mare con una prova di navigazione della Nuva M9 motorizzata con due motori da 150 CV, per scoprirne caratteristiche, consumi e prestazioni. La Nuva M9 propone una soluzione diversa dalle classiche barche open. Le murate alte, gli ampi spazi esterni e la particolare configurazione di poppa permettono di sfruttare molto bene tutta la superficie disponibile. La lunghezza dello scafo è di 7,99 metri, la larghezza è di 2,99 metri, mentre la lunghezza fuori tutto arriva a quasi 9 metri. La barca è omologata in categoria B e C per 10 persone, risultando quindi interessante anche per una famiglia numerosa o per trascorrere una giornata in mare in compagnia. A poppa troviamo due comode plancette, che facilitano l'accesso diretto al mare. Una caratteristica interessante della Nuva M9 è la panca rialzata rispetto ai motori fuoribordo: questa soluzione permette di sfruttare meglio la lunghezza della barca e di ottenere un pozzetto particolarmente ampio. Il salotto di poppa può essere completato con il tavolo, creando una vera zona conviviale per pranzi, aperitivi e momenti di relax. Di fronte al salotto troviamo la zona cucina della Nuva M9, attrezzata con un grande lavello, una piastra a due fuochi e frigorifero. Una configurazione pensata per chi vuole trascorrere un'intera giornata in barca senza rinunciare alla comodità. Il T-Top ha dimensioni generose e offre una buona copertura dal sole, oltre a garantire protezione in caso di condizioni meteo meno favorevoli. Anche l'altezza è abbondante e permette di muoversi comodamente sotto la struttura. La plancia di comando è completa e ben organizzata. Troviamo la strumentazione digitale Honda per controllare i dati dei due motori, sistema Garmin integrato, autoradio, elica di prua, comandi dei trim, indicatore del carburante e bussola. Il passaggio da poppa verso prua è inoltre praticamente tutto sullo stesso livello, senza fastidiosi gradini: una caratteristica utile quando a bordo ci sono bambini, animali o persone che desiderano muoversi con maggiore facilità. A prua troviamo un grande prendisole, uno degli spazi più interessanti della Nuva M9. La zona può essere trasformata anche in un secondo salotto con tavolo. In questo modo è possibile avere due differenti aree conviviali, una a prua e una a poppa, da utilizzare durante la giornata in base al sole, al vento o semplicemente alle proprie preferenze. Cabina matrimoniale e bagno separato A prua troviamo un ampio letto matrimoniale, con buoni spazi e illuminazione naturale. La disposizione permette a due persone di dormire comodamente e di sfruttare bene la larghezza interna della barca. Un altro elemento importante è il bagno separato, particolarmente spazioso per una barca di questa tipologia. L'altezza massima arriva a circa 1,90 metri e all'interno troviamo lavello e WC. È inoltre disponibile un'ulteriore zona notte con dimensioni molto generose: circa 2,10 metri di profondità e 2,10 metri di larghezza, aumentando ulteriormente la possibilità di pernottare a bordo. Arriviamo alla parte più interessante: come naviga la Nuva M9? La barca provata nel video è equipaggiata con due motori fuoribordo da 150 CV, per una potenza complessiva di 300 CV. Durante la navigazione abbiamo rilevato circa 15,9 nodi a 4.200 giri/min, con un consumo indicato di circa 30 litri/ora per motore. Affondando il gas e regolando correttamente i trim, abbiamo raggiunto circa 29-30 nodi a 5.500 giri/min, con un consumo indicato durante la prova di circa 49 litri/ora per motore. Nuva M9: per chi è adatta? La Nuva M9 può essere una soluzione interessante per chi cerca una barca open con grandi spazi esterni ma non vuole rinunciare a cabina, bagno separato, cucina, prendisole e possibilità di pernottamento. Four days out of the water in Motril, and then the bit every boat owner quietly dreads: watching everything you own hang in the air on two straps. Before that could happen there was a list. Seventy metres of anchor chain dragged out onto the hardstanding, measured and colour-banded every ten metres by hand — a full day's work in Spanish sun, and almost none of it done by me. New antifouling with cayenne pepper mixed into it, because the previous owners swore that's what people do in South Africa, and after a year mostly sitting still our hull came out very nearly clean. Both engines fully serviced: sail drive oil, motor oil, every filter, every separator. And then her name went back on the hull, which is the moment she stopped being a project again. We splashed on a windless morning. The difference a clean bottom makes is measurable: 6.1 knots at 1700rpm, against 5.5 knots at 2000rpm with a dirty one. Then we finally left the boatyard, sailed down the coast with dolphins alongside — which mostly means no orcas — and put in at Benalmádena for the night. We are halfway through our sailing passage from New Zealand to Fiji, but we're facing a big problem. We anchored in a submerged atoll called Minerva Reef, because the metal structure that holds our dinghy in place broke in the huge waves that we saw last week. Before we can leave this lagoon and set sail for Fiji, 500 miles away, we need to figure out how to make Indioko safe enough for the open ocean. There is no one nearby who can help us so we just have to figure this one out ourselves, and as soon as we can get moving, we'll have the final leg of our journey to reach Fiji. Anse Leroux, Guadeloupe is perfect, with crystal-clear water, a close by beach and fantastic snorkeling just a short ride from the boat. From there, we take a long dinghy ride to the colorful village of Deshaies, where we wander the charming streets and discover an amazing local bakery serving delicious French pastries and fresh baguettes at prices we couldn't believe. Next, it's time to sail north to Grande Anse, and wow... this beach completely exceeds our expectations. Stretching for over a kilometer with soft golden sand, swaying palm trees, and hardly another soul around, it's easily one of the most beautiful beaches we've visited in the Caribbean. The kids spend hours jumping through the waves, we crack open fresh coconuts under the palms, and quickly learn just how scorching the black-and-gold sand becomes in the tropical sun! Before heading back, we hike to an old cannon overlooking the bay for one final spectacular view. After helping deliver Amelia, a Privilege 585 catamaran, more than 10,500 nautical miles from Grenada to Dubai, I sat down with owners Karl and Michele to break down every major expense from the voyage. Together we go through the real numbers behind the delivery—including captain and crew fees, fuel, provisioning, port fees, the Suez Canal transit, repairs, and replacement equipment. By the end, the total comes to $77,500, although there's an interesting debate over whether another $30,000 in repairs and spare parts should really be counted as part of the delivery costs. We also revisit one of the most unforgettable moments of the trip: losing their $10,000 dinghy in the middle of the Atlantic. What is more sexy than a beautiful woman and friends of the sea? Dolphins swim close by while Steve reads poetry and Karen exercises. Life on Isabella is full of wonderful experiences and we love sharing them with our subscribers and viewers. Your support really helps to keep us going; especially when you are a subscriber. Last time after subscribing to SiriusXM weather, it was discovered that our weather antenna wasn’t working. Happy to report now that with our new weather antenna we can access many SiriusXM weather charts on the Garmin 1242xsv chartplotter. Some of the data reported is wave height and period, wind direction and speed, current, weather forecast including location of lightning strikes and storm tracking. Lightning strikes on boats; especially sailboats, is always a concern. With two tall lightning rods better known as masts, thunderstorms produce a feeling of uneasiness. Since lightning typically takes a path of least resistance, we try to suggest a route that would cause the least amount of damage to Isabella and the various electronic instruments on board. When there is a chance of lightning, we hook jumper cables to two of the stainless steel shrouds on the sides of the masts and drop them into the water. Assuming lightning strikes a mast, it could travel down the mast to the shroud and into the water, thus avoiding major damage. You know what people say about assuming and we are always keeping our fingers crossed during an electrical storm. West Marine is closing about 59 of their stores across the United States. They have been marking down their inventory 30% to 70% of the original costs. So….we went shopping and found some fabulous deals we couldn’t resist. Sorry to see those stores close but happy to enjoy the discounts. Watch this weeks video to see what loot we brought home. We are on S/V Isabella a Super Mikado 56 manufactured in France by C.N.S.O. (Constructions Nautiques du Sud-Ouest). Isabella is a sailing ketch and is considered a 1990/2010 model. It has four private cabins, an engine room, salon, galley, and three heads with two separate shower stalls. The hull is fiberglass and is considered a bluewater cruiser. Isabella has a excellent capsize ratio of 1.68 and a very good comfort ratio of 42.19. She is equipped with Garmin / Raymarine electronics and has hydraulic steering. The naval architect was Michel Bigoin who also designed the largest sailboat in the world which was manufactured in 1976 and called Phocea. It was a 246 foot four masted steel schooner and was considered the largest private sailing yacht in the world until 2004. Last week we shared some of the big questions hanging over NV and her ageing race boat rig. But there was another story unfolding behind the scenes that we hadn't told you about... Just before one of the most important times of the year for our family, Timo suddenly became seriously ill. We initially thought it was dengue, but after several negative tests and days of not knowing what was wrong, he was eventually diagnosed with leptospirosis. While Timo recovered, I was holding the fort on the boat with the boys and our dogs through the middle of rainy season — with plenty of storms and a few nervous checks of the anchor! Thankfully, Timo recovered just in time for a very special trip. He'd promised to help our new friends Riley and Elayna get La Vagabonde ready for their journey to New Zealand.
