2025 Offshore Double Handed World Championships Qualification Race 2: Start Highlights 25 September 2025 - The second qualification race of the 2025 Offshore Double Handed World Championships got underway in Cowes, Isle of Wight in a northeasterly 10 knot gradient wind, with clear skies. The 140nm race is expected to come to a climax on Friday 26 September. After the start, the international fleet raced on a short sharp beat to the East Bramble mark. First to round was Théa Khelif/Thomas Andre (FRA), followed by Megan Thomson/Oakley Marsh (NZL 2) then Onur Tok/Hamide Sevda Ersezer (TUR). The front runners double-headed to the spreader mark, Paul Heys before hoisting spinnakers. Heading into the Western Solent, FRA 1 showed good speed on the VMG run, extending their lead. Both NZL 2 and TUR chose to follow the mainland shore with the Kiwis notably sailing goose-winged to hold their lane. Alec Coleman/Savannah Taylor (USA), Liz Wardley/Lincoln Dews (AUS 2) and Alec Coleman/Savannah Taylor (CAN) chose the island shore in the Western Solent and looked to make gains. First to round the Needles Fairway Buoy was FRA 1,closely followed by NZL 2 and AUS 2. Only the top five finishers from this qualifier will earn a direct place in the World Championship Final, making every move critical. Sailing from Maine to New Hampshire we stopped at Isle of Shoals, approximately 6 miles off the coast. Miles of Maine Island Hiking, Rock scrambling and Shoreline exploring.

Isle of Shoals, consists of 16 islands, the largest being Appledore, Star, Smuttynose, Malaga, White, Seavey, Lunging and Duck.

The most intriguing part ? There was a true Crime Murder on Isle of Shoals Smuttynose Island back on March 6,1873. Two Norwegian immigrants were brutally murdered in cold blood. Maren Hontvet, her sister Karen, and their sister-in-law Anethe—settled into the only occupied home on the island, unaware that by dawn, two of them would be dead.

Shortly after 1 a.m., an intruder slipped inside. Karen was strangled in her bed, Anethe was butchered with an axe, and only Maren managed to escape, barefoot and terrified, into the icy darkness. She hid among the rocks until daylight, clinging to life as her family’s world collapsed. Anita Shreve wrote a 1997 book about the event and in 2000, the film “Weight of Water with Sean Penn, Catherine McCormack, Elizabeth Hurley, and Sarah Polley was released.

To start with following two days of intense competition on the Sea of Marmara, the 24th Bosphorus Cup concluded with the race on the Bosphorus Strait. The busy waterway is closed once a year to allow this impressive contest to take place, and as usual a sumptuous spectacle was laid on for both competitors and spectators. Racing in a 15 knot northerly winds, and starting from Kuruçeşme, the 55 boat fleet contested a looped course that went as far north as Anadolu Hiasari, and the impressive F S M Bridge, and south to Beşiktaş, with the finish line near Beşiktaş. Hugo Cardon on his Figaro 3, Sarth'Atlantique, won the second leg of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec. This young rookie managed to cover the distance in 4 days 2 hours 14 minutes and 29 seconds. He is ahead of Alexis Loison in Groupe Reel, winner of the first leg, and the formidable Charlotte Yven, on Skipper Macif 2023. In the provisional general classification, Alexis Loison strengthens his lead before the third and final leg. The Ocean Race Europe 2025, came to a spectacular close in Montenegro’s Boka Bay with a dramatic coastal showdown that saw French, Paul Me-hat’s Biotherm put the icing on the cake and win again in the final coastal race in style. Team Paprec Arkéa, crossed in second to secure the overall runner-up spot on 40 points, with skipper Yoann Richomme praising his team’s consistency throughout the six-week race. Four days of close racing in Scarlino brought the Swan Tuscany Challenge to a spectacular conclusion. She was also ordered with the widebody deck layout. The Kadey Krogen 58 Pilothouse design is an exceptional long-range trawler designed and built to accommodate an active cruising couple. Tapestry is a magnificent rendition of the popular two-stateroom, two-head layout with an open office. Tapestry is offered for sale by her third owners after some light use over the past three years with mostly local cruising. The entry level has the saloon merging into the galley. The interior is furnished with a very pleasing, light cherry wood finish. Carpet covers the parquet wood soles. The interior included Corian counter tops and Ultra-leather upholstery. On deck, her aft cockpit has full enclosures and the widebody deck allows easy access from the cockpit forward along the starboard side. The Portuguese Bridge has storage lockers and a docking station to starboard. The foredeck features a Maxwell windlass. On the boat deck an AB model VST 13ft tender with a 60 HP Yamaha outboard are ready for launch via the Nautical Structures crane. The flybridge has two helm chairs for side-by-side enjoyment underneath a Bimini top and an L shaped settee with cushions and a table. The ride through the water on a Kadey-Krogen 58 is smooth and efficient with ABT active fin stabilizers for comfort and a hydraulic bow thruster for docking convenience.
