Per parlare della zattera autogonfiabile, Solovelanet ha invitato un' esperto del settore sopravvivenza e sicurezza, Paolo Vianson. Vianson è il responsabile dei corsi di sicurezza in mare per lo Yacht Club Italiano. We leave Black Point and head 10.5 miles South to Little Farmer’s Cay, a small island settlement with a couple of restaurants, a few shops and a harbour full of marine life. We spend a couple of days here wandering through town and checking out the surrounding snorkel spots and restaurants. Our last night anchored on the West side of the island we experience one of the most magical, serene moments of our adventure. We’re in complete awe of our surroundings - the silent air and incredibly still water underneath a golden sunset. It might sound like a simple subject and shouldn't involve much real thought. However, if you are unfamiliar with the different pocket types and styles of fins you could very easily end up with the wrong type of fins for your next snorkeling trip. For example, do you choose a full foot short fin or an open heel split fin? Are you snorkeling from the shore or by boat? All of these little nuances in fins make choosing the right ones all the more important.

Congratulations to Dazcat 1495 'Hissy Fit' and team for coming 1st overall and winning title of MOCRA National Champions. Multihulls racing were: Hissy Fit (D1495, Simon Biffa Baker) Sueños (D1195, Rupert Kidd) Belladonna (D10, Dominic Gooding) Easy Tiger (D995, Neil Boughton & Julian Weyer Brown) Wombat (Grainger, @Matt Baker) The Edge (Nigel Irens Tri, Chris Briggs) Molly 5 (Fontaine Pajot Maldives, Steve Homewood). Wombat 2nd place Sueños 3rd place Well done to Sueños for coming third while still in cruising mode - while some felt like they were racing from inside a washing machine (Wombat, Edge, Belladonna at times...), Sueños crew remained relatively dry but she raced with washing machine on board, along with all the other liveaboard accumulation of weight (choice of three chopping boards etc!)... In true Westcountry style, we had a great range of wind and weather conditions including scorching sunshine and heavy fog, little wind and quite a lot of wind...Day three saw the fast and furious sailing and on board Sueños we topped 18 knots at one point - loads of fun surfing downwind in 20 knots of breeze with the huge, blue kite up and some spectacular views of the other boats... Thanks to the Royal Western Yacht Club and all their volunteers for putting this on for us and providing the committee boats as well as a great bar and socialising space. Also to MDL Marinas at Queen Anne's Battery for accommodating us and Allspars, Highwater Sails & North Sails for providing the prizes. Also, racing on board the different boats it was a real pleasure to see our Multihull Centre customers, yard team members (Brendan Seward, Matt Theobald, Jaime Ward) and also suppliers from Highwater Sails, Allspar and Matt Owen, PR Solution) as well as friends and family members sailing together and against each other...and personally I really enjoyed racing on board Sueños for the first time. It was a great event and we all had fun, with Plymouth Sound making the perfect location.

Stripping boat paint, especially bottom paint; Heat Gun? Stripper? sandblasting? Scraping? Chemical Stripper? grinding? This video is about removing old bottom paint from fiberglass boats and sailboats, and what method to use, and why. Stripping boat paint involves the right Power Tools- but which tool to use for a bottom job? ...preparing the bottom of a Sailboat for new antifouling paint or Coppercoat? First, we must remove the bottom paint and do a complete bottom job including new epoxy barrier coat to prep for antifouling. Patrick shows the power tools and hand tools he uses for maintenance and repairs as he begins the repair and restoration for a new kind of anti foul paint for us, diy. This is a “how to”, tutorial, sailboat restoration project; a do it yourself sailing video about prepping a sailboat for Coppercoat, antifouling, and how to remove bottom paint. It’s not easy to Do, but Patrick shows how to sand off bottom paint, how to remove bottom paint by using heat guns to take the old paint off a fiberglass hull, and why we couldn’t sandblast! Lots of boat work, and repairing the hull of all of these resin blisters. He also puts the headsail profurl Head stay back on, since it will take a while for sailboat maintenance this time! Sailboat restoration and renovation in Africa! WARNING: WARNING WARNING Using a heat gun to remove bottom paint is questionable, and you should do research yourself if this is the best method to remove antifouling paint from your sailboat. Damage to underlying gelcoat is a Concern, as is the carcinogenic fumes that are created when bottom paint is heated. When fiberglass is heated, it can do damage. Removal with the lowest possible heat is preferable. Working with a very helpful local company in Capetown, and Durban, South Africa called ”AMT Composites” (https://www.amtcomposites.co.za), we are now choosing the proper fiberglass and epoxy materials to build the fiberglass layers up again. Our power tools are being repaired by a local company that fixes our tools almost as fast as we break them: http://www.baypowertools.co.za/ We will get this boat ready for our next Ocean, to continue sailing around the world on our 1976 Valiant 40 sailboat possibly to Brazil and Uruguay, and maybe Tierra Del Fuego! This circumnavigation will be at least 15 years! We sprayed the boat with a pressure washer to remove the growth, and then thought about which antifoul removal tool we should use, and researched how to remove old antifouling paint. The cost to remove the Bottom paint and for sanding antifouling paint from gelcoat, and then we had to decide on the best sander for removing bottom paint. “Removal easy off” was one chemical paint stripping product, but was not available here, nor were we impressed with it. . The cost to remove bottom paint was a factor too.Why isnt there a special antifoul removal tool that would make it easy? This isn’t the same as how to paint bottom paint a boat for the first time! How to remove antifouling paint, sanding antifouling, soft or hard antifouling, and the best antifouling paint for fiberglass is a consideration. Looking at the Coppercoat data sheet, and studying Coppercoat problems, and not wanting to get involved with recoating Coppercoat anytime soon, we need to remove the antifouling completely! How to remove old antifouling paint can be easy with the right power tools for boat work. Sailing Around the World does need to include working in boatyards to keep the boat Seaworthy! In this episode, the crew leave Port Canaveral for a 3 night sail around Cape Hatteras and into the Chesapeake Bay. Lisa loses two battles (fear and bugs), and Erik performs his first MacGyver “hat trick” involving a sail fail with the Code Zero, a burnt out connection for the Spot trace, and a broken topping lift. Despite these shenanigans at sea, the crossing around Cape Hatteras was uneventful - primarily because the Captain chose a perfect weather window for the crossing, celebrated with cigars, cocktails, and huge smiles. After we cleared into Colombia, the Gypsea Fleet went ashor to explore Bahía Solano and to fill up with fresh veggies. The small town of 7.000 inhabitants has a tranquil and friendly vibe and we sat for a while at the main plaza soaking up the local culture and chattimg away with the kids. Once we saw that our ancors are holding, we left Karl, Joana and Easy by themselves (with Maria's parents having an eye on them) and squeezed our four butts and three surfboards into a tuk tuk. The one hour drive to El Almejal was an adventure by itself...but check out this new episode to find out for yourself. As usual, we stumble upon a vibrant street celebration in the honor of the birth of Jesus Christ which the locals call Los Arullos. So many happy faces and dancing people around us, we could nkt help but join the celebration. The prep is over with and it is finally time to install the bronze floors! We have invested so much time, energy and money in these and it is such a gratifying feeling to finally see them put in place. In the end, the installation went very smoothly and they all fit rather nicely. Other than having some issues with breaking the jig we made to drive the hanger bolts a couple of times, there really weren't any big crazy moments to film here. Sailing between the Gulf Islands can be challenging, the islands are close to each other and can interrupt the wind or increase it. We make it to Ganges on Salt spring island where we do a stop over before continuing south. We find a great anchorage in Cadboro Bay and then we meet up with our friend Kennet in Victoria and go exploring waterfalls and giant trees! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. Lürssen Yachts are well known for having constructed some of the world's largest and prestigious superyachts. Behind the scenes though there is an industry of mammoth proportions, superbly organised by a team that ensures that their size does not prevent each client from receiving bespoke service. I had the privilege of taking a look at their refit facility in Hamburg as I searched for the 110 meter yacht "Jubilee", newly arrived for a one year refit! Join me as I search for "Jubilee"!

Sailing our own boat under the Sydney Harbour Bridge has been a bucket list item for us since we set off from England 2.5 years ago at the start of our circumnavigation. Having sailed across two oceans to get here it was a real highlight for us to finally tick it off the list. We spent some time exploring Sydney Harbour and the city before parking Florence next to the Opera House for the famous Sydney New Years Eve fireworks, what a show! We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat. The journey is underway. Time to settle into life at sea. Rough weather and calms, helicopters, birds and dolphins visit my home in the sea. #sailingacrossthepacific #stormsatsea Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news. Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ If you’d like to help the Old Seadog Please checkout our Patreon page on the link below. https://www.patreon.com/Adventuresofanoldseadog Contributions to the project can be made at paypal.me/seadogadventures Instagram https://www.instagram.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Here's a surprise, our dinghy blows a seem and captain bodge needs to come up with some dodgy rescue. We go to a local market to try and find some PVC glue and a water pump but we have no luck although I run in to a cousin of mine. Margarida takes a test drive of an underwater scooter and I can't help but admire the water and bubbles. I see to the water pump and get it going again by stripping parts from another broken pump and we take a look at Nargana, one of the main towns in Guna Yala where we can stock up on some fruit and veges.
