Customs, early mornings, and a whole lot of coffee later we’re back on a mission. In this episode, we unload months of collected gear and dive into some major upgrades: new Victron electronics, solar controllers, panels, heavy-duty power leads, and a brand-new AC TIG welder for aluminum repairs. From corrosion pits and rudder repairs to future cockpit projects and watermaker fittings, this welder is about to earn its keep. We also tackle one of our biggest past problems shore power and finally test whether we can run the compressor properly for sandblasting and painting. Servicing a marine diesel engine is an essential part of boat maintenance, especially when you’re living aboard and preparing for long motoring days ahead. We’re currently liveaboard on our sailboat in Malaysia, tackling DIY sailboat maintenance while cruising Southeast Asia. From chasing down hard-to-find engine parts to performing a diesel engine service, this episode shows what real sailboat engine maintenance abroad looks like — tight spaces, oily hands, and all. We have added many extra shorelines to keep Nova Vita safe. There is considerable swell in the port and marina. Engine room, diesel exhaust, exhaust riser, stockings, enchiladas and a hot sauce comparison A few loose screws and some muscle power. We’re still trying to solve the engine exhaust leak. This time Karen joins Steve in the engine room to loosen a few screws and Steve uses his muscle power to remove the riser. Still not sure how to reconnect the riser to the flange to seal the leak. Some projects are just not as easy as anticipated and this one is a prime example of extended DIY. Karen dances in her new holiday outfit of a festive skirt and red furry Christmas stockings. They’re just the kind that Steve would like to stuff. Of course she has a red furry hat to match the swinging stockings. Culinary delights on Isabella in this episode are our homemade enchiladas. Ground grass fed beef with secret seasonings, yep, right out of the store bought package. Oops, spoiler alert. Lightly fried flour tortillas filled with the meat mixture, cheese and some sauce, rolled up and put in a pan. They are then covered with more sauce, yep another secret ingredient, topped with cheese and baked in the oven until done. Yummy. Then things got really hot.
