Big progress in the Alaskan Gypsy shipyard restoration — the bow thruster, after much debate, is finally gone! and welding shut, gone for good. Or, until next haul out at least! This old jet-style hydraulic setup never really worked for much we are told, but it left four holes in the bow and a big repair project behind. In this episode, I cut out the last of the system and through repeated acts of contortionist weld plate over the openings. Conditions were far different to last week's Westerly storm; the fleet was greeted by a brilliant Sydney Harbour Nor'Easter, but if the teams thought it was going to be much easier then they were in for a shock as the wind was rarely below 20-knots with a choppy sea. Tough for the competitors but some wonderful action-packed speed sailing for spectators as the fleet raced down wind at speeds of up to 30-knots by the winner Yandoo, skippered by the Giltinan world champion, Tom Needham. Needham, Miles Davey and Lewis Brake gave a masterclass of heavy weather 18 footer racing in Yandoo to take out Race 1 of the Club Championship by a convincing margin of 1m41s Lazarus Capital Partners, which also showed enough to suggest another big season ahead for the team. In a battle of attrition, Sixt (Jacob Marks, Alex Marinelli and Rasmus Rosenglen) survived the conditions to finish in third place, 10m26s behind Lazarus. The only other teams to complete the course were Fisher & Paykel (Brett Van Munster, Tom Quigley and Logan Radford) in fourth place and Club Marine (Emma Rankin, Jack Taylor and Jed Cruikshank) in fifth place. Found a great little tool to make quick and easy work of flishing your sea strainer and A/C system. it is called a "Lovxulee Flush Port Quick Connect". I replace your sea strainer cap with this cap and remove the sea strainer basket. They come in multiple sizes to fit your sea strainer size needs.

Do yacht crews stay with the yacht when it’s sold? In this short video I answer a common question with three real-world scenarios: Owner upgrades to a larger yacht and prefers to keep the crew. Buyer loves the crew and makes a strong offer, so they stay with the yacht. The crew move on, each taking new opportunities elsewhere. If you’re buying or selling a yacht, understanding how crew retention works can save time, protect continuity, and keep your yacht running smoothly. While sailing Saturday, we caught this dolphin pod and watched them for an hour! National Geographic would have loved this video opportunity! Tail slapping again and again - herding fish! Such an amazing thing to watch.
