What does life in the Maldives really look like when you’re sailing full-time? In this episode of Sailing with Six, we experience a side of the Maldives that doesn’t always match the postcard images — from spending a night at a surprisingly quiet Crossroads Marina, to navigating the busy streets of Malé, and finally slowing right down at anchor off the local island of Ghuli. This part of the Maldives is known for world-class surf, but when we arrived, the ocean was flat. With a lull in the swell, we settled into island life, caught up on boat jobs, and practiced patience — trusting the forecast and waiting for the ocean to deliver. And when it finally did… it reminded us why some moments are worth waiting for. 🌊 In this episode: • Visiting one of the few marinas in the Maldives • Dinghying into Malé to run errands • Navigating narrow reef cuts to a protected anchorage • Life at anchor on a local island • Waiting for swell… and scoring epic surf If you enjoy honest sailing life, slow travel, family cruising, and the reality behind the dream, we’re glad you’re here. 🌊 Join Our Sailing Family Adventure! This is a real point-of-view sailing passage from Malaysia to Thailand, filmed entirely from onboard as we sail with six people on a 39-foot sailboat. This new year started fast — Jesse’s whole family flew out to join us, and suddenly our quiet boat turned into a full house. With limited stops ahead, we had to provision enough food for weeks, make sure the watermaker was running properly, and prepare for a challenging sail north. The wind has been strong, and there were a few scary moments when the boat rounded up. We reefed the sails to keep everyone comfortable, lowered the heel, and took things slow and steady. Out of six people onboard, only two got seasick — not bad considering the conditions. This video is pure POV sailing — no narration, no filters. Just real movement, real sounds, and real life at sea as we cross borders by boat. Put on headphones, relax, and feel like you’re sailing onboard with us. 💙 A huge thank you to everyone supporting us on Patreon — you truly help make this sailboat life possible. The Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix saw the kind of conditions that SailGP sailors and the fans relish. Small rigs, high speeds, a tight racecourse, and some spectacular racing. There was damage with the Spanish going out in practice when the bulkheads broke around their daggerboard casing, and the Kiwis went out in the first race after a collision with the Swiss. There were also injuries in practice, with Artemis Racing’s Chris Draper suffering a nasty gash to his bottom lip after a faceplant on the trampoline, and the Bonds Flying Roos’ Iain ‘Goods’ Jensen twisting his knee on a manoeuvre. We take a look at the incidents, what was paying on the start, and one of the reasons that Emirates Team Great Britain took the win, with the reunited Dylan Fletcher and Stu Bithell, gold medallists in the 49er class at Tokyo 2020, celebrating a superb start to the season. Bon visionnage, Bonne route !

Sailing MISTRAL exposed WEST coast of Sardinia is NOT for the FAINT HEARTED. Monohull SAILING with a BROKEN RIB isn't funny! Don't make me laugh, it HURTS! Determined to CARRY ON, Sheenagh smiles through gritted teeth when dolphins play. We test upgrades, repairs and maintenance completed last two weeks at Cagliari. Are they good to keep us afloat? Either way, we can't wait to get sailing again. New genoa sail looks great but it's WRONG! Shelter when near GALE attacks the coast and DRIFT when wind dies. Doch was dann? My girlfriend and mom arrive in San Diego and get to immediately join in the boatwork. We are organising, getting lots of new packages onboard, clean and install the mainsail and sailbag but not without hiccups. Want to help us out? Shop our favourite tools and parts used on Amazon and we get a small commission. Even if you buy something completely different within 24 hours after clicking the link. https://amzn.to/48XH7Yp As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases -------------------------------------------- Welcome to Boatlife is best. We bought a cheap and neglected 49ft Performance catamaran for just $52.500. It is an Ocean Cat 49 built in 2000, and we are in the process of refitting it and getting it sailing again so we can continue our voyage around the world. Hop along for the ride while we try and give this incredible boat a second chance at life and finally crossing some oceans. Fixing stuff along the way and creating an incredible floating home.

With a fully set up boat, now we aren't confined to Boka Bay in Montenegro (side note of visa balancing days, but that's another story). We head seaside witht he intenetion of stopping at the Blue Caves. We were a little late in the morning by the time we got there so decided to leave it for another day, earlier before the day boats arrive. We continue on to find a beautiful little beach with turquiose waters in 4m depth, and sand much to Lilah's amazement. Our buddies boats joined us and we spent a few days here having a good ol' time. However, when we were on another friend's boat, three men swam up to Smile and boarded without our knowledge or consent, leaving us feeling uneasy. Want early access to our videos? Not a How-To – Just Real Engine Maintenance on a Yanmar 3YM30. Servicing the engine isn’t glamorous, but it’s one of those jobs that really matters. In this episode, I tackle a full engine service on our Yanmar 3YM30 – including an oil and fuel filter change, chasing down a leak, and replacing a broken impeller that could have caused far bigger problems if it had gone unnoticed. This definitely isn’t an instructional step-by-step, but it’s an honest look at what’s involved when you take on your own engine maintenance. There’s plenty of “boat yoga” along the way – arms and legs at odd angles, tight spaces, dropped tools, and moments of doubt – but we get there in the end. Finding the leak turned into a more expensive exercise than planned, but it also uncovered the failed impeller, making it a timely and worthwhile discovery. It’s a good reminder that sometimes the frustrating jobs are the ones that save you down the track. If you’re thinking about servicing your own engine, or just curious about what really goes on below deck, there’s plenty here to learn – and maybe a bit of reassurance that you don’t need to be a mechanic to give it a go. The seas favored us as we rounded the last of the three sister capes—Cape Fear. Navigating its crowded waters proved our greatest challenge, threading carefully among the many vessels making their passage. Once clear, we steered south toward Fernandina Beach, while others chose a more westerly course. The sailing was at times exhilarating, at times less forgiving, as the weather strayed from the forecast. Ultimately, we arrived safely and marked the occasion with a well-earned dinner and drinks. Our journey continues, and we invite you to share in the adventure. Subscribe and share in the adventure! Thanksgiving weekend in Southeast Alaska turned into something unforgettable. Living aboard our sailboat, Alaskan Gypsy, we set out on a remote paddleboard-assisted blacktail deer hunt...no roads, no crowds, just wilderness. This trip marked a huge milestone: Audrey’s first deer ever, and our first successful hunt as a family living this lifestyle full-time. From frosty mornings and glassy water to quiet moments of gratitude and respect for the animal, this wasn’t just a hunt, it was a rite of passage. We call it Blacktail Friday… and yes, it really was a BOGO. This is what subsistence, simplicity, and living in tune with nature looks like for us in Alaska. 🎥 Filmed entirely while living aboard our sailboat 🦌 Blacktail deer | Southeast Alaska 🛶 Paddleboard-assisted access ❄️ Late fall wilderness conditions If you’re interested in off-grid living, hunting, boat life, or learning alongside a first-time hunter - Welcome Aboard! One lightning strike left us with no power, no engines, and 820 miles to get back for repairs. After being struck by lightning while anchored at the remote island of Pulau Panjang in Indonesia, everything changed in an instant. With no electrical systems, no engines, no pumps, no cooking, and no refrigeration, we were forced to manually lift the anchor and begin an 820-nautical-mile journey back to Phuket. Sailing when the weather allowed, we hand-steered day and night through storms, strong currents, and sheer exhaustion. Near the end of the journey, we were towed across the Malacca Strait before finally reaching Port Dickson—our first chance to get No Regrets II running again. This is Part 1 of our journey. In Part 2, failed engine repairs, a narrowly dodged cyclone that destroyed Admiral Marina in Port Dickson, electrical system checks in Penang, and finally a haul-out in Phuket as we face the full extent of the damage. Timestamps if you like to Jump Right In: 00:00 Intro 00:41 Manually lifting anchor and getting underway 02:23 Setting up our first tow 06:00 Bashing to windward 08:20 Burnt out CZone 12:07 Day 4 16:47 Day 5 - towing again 19:35 Towed across the Malacca Straits under tow WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. Thinking about buying a boat or going cruising? Read this first: https://bethecaptain.com/ Most people think buying the right boat is the hard part. It isn’t. The hardest part—and the part almost nobody slows down enough to think through—is whether this life actually fits who you are. In this Sailing Truth Show, we’re having a serious conversation about the most important question you should ask before you buy a boat, sell a house, or reorganize your life around cruising. This has nothing to do with brands, budgets, or bluewater checklists. It’s about responsibility, temperament, and how you actually respond when things stop going according to plan—which offshore, they always do. If you’re casually curious, this might not be the conversation for you. But if you’re seriously considering cruising—or already deep into the decision—this is one you need to hear before you go any further. I wrote Be The Captain because I kept having this same conversation with people—usually after they’d already spent the money. Watch first. Decide second.

Jason Carroll’s MOD70 Argo Sets New Multihull Race Record in a Brutal Duel with Zoulou Jason Carroll’s MOD70 Argo (USA) claimed Multihull Line Honours in the 2026 RORC Transatlantic Race, crossing the finish line off English Harbour, Antigua, on Friday 16 January at 12:31:15 UTC. In doing so, Argo set a new Multihull Race Record for the Lanzarote–Antigua course of 4 days, 23 hours, 51 minutes and 15 seconds, setting the multihull benchmark for this iconic Atlantic route. Argo Crew: Skipper Chad Corning, Pete Cumming, Sam Goodchild, Charles Ogletree, Alister Richardson, Brian Thompson. Hot on Argo’s heels was Erik Maris’ MOD70 Zoulou (FRA), finishing just 2 hours and 32 minutes later after five days of relentless, high-speed combat across the Atlantic. The result was the culmination of one of the closest and most intense multihull battles ever seen in the RORC Transatlantic Race. Zoulou Crew: Erik Maris, Bruno Jeanjean, Miles Seddon, Ned Collier Wakefield, Paul Larsen, Thierry Fouchier. From the moment the fleet cleared Lanzarote, the two MOD70s were locked in a private duel at the very front of the race, separated by mere miles, matching each other stride for stride at sustained speeds well above 30 knots. Our sail takes us past Suriname, Guyana, the coast of Venezuela and the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. A stretch of water presently involved in some intense American military activity. Unfortunately there is no way to avoid the Venezuela coastline, however, to reduce risk we stay well offshore, away from coastal fishing boats and geopolitics. But even far from land, the ocean has ways of throwing curveballs. We witness a strange interaction between a freighter and an unidentified boat. Are they up to no good? We don't know.
