We look at the EPIRB Tron 60 AIS with the manual bracket. Why choose AIS on your EPIRB? What is AIS? Why the manual bracket and not the Float-free version of the EPIRB? When choosing an EPIRB there are some question you need to ask yourself to find the right product for you. In this video we look at some of them, so you know more before you are ordering. This particular EPIRB will be installed in the sailing vessel "Maja", a 1982 Nauticat 38. You can read more about our boat, travels and work here: https://sailing-maja.com/ An EPIRB is an essential piece of safety equipment that can be crucial if something goes wrong at sea. In an emergency, an EPIRB or PLB automatically or manually sends a distress signal via satellite, with an accurate position, directly to the rescue service. This provides rapid notification and precise location, even far out at sea or in areas without mobile coverage. For many boaters, an EPIRB is the last and most important lifeline if you have to abandon your vessel or find yourself in distress alone. Here is a link to the product we discuss in the video, but please note that this is not an affiliate link, just an honest review: https://www.jotron.com/products/maritime-communication/epirb/tron-60ais-with-manual-bracket Here is a link to Seatronic in Norway where we bought the EPIRB, still no affiliate: https://seatronic.no/jotron-tron-60ais-nodpeilesender

This is Part 1 of our 463nm (82hr) Sydney to Gold Coast catamaran delivery. When our good mate Jim asked us to help deliver his new catamaran, Pirate Pete, from Sydney to the Gold Coast, we didn’t hesitate. None of us had sailed this stretch of coastline before, so it was the perfect opportunity to level up – new waters, proper offshore miles, night sailing practice and a chance to explore more of the NSW coast. We departed from Sydney Harbour, cruised under the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and gave a nod to the Opera House, then slipped through the Sydney Heads to our first stop in Pittwater for a short sojourn. From there, it was a 121 nautical mile leg to Port Stephens before setting off on the long 342nm stretch north to the Gold Coast. In total the trip was 463 nautical miles over 82 hours at sea. There’s something about pushing into unfamiliar waters that sharpens you. Long night watches. Coastal traffic. Weather windows. Fatigue. Teamwork. And that quiet satisfaction of helping a mate bring his new boat home. This one tested us – and taught us plenty. Thanks for watching. Sailing across Moreton Bay to North Stradbroke Island, before taking shelter from a passing supercell at Canaipa Passage. A day of sailing, storms and mud crabbing in beautiful Queensland waters. Today we sail across Moreton Bay to take shelter from a passing supercell at Canaipa located on the north east tip of Russell Island While hiding from the storm we try our luck catching mud crabs with Eve and Consti, and Rob shows Consti how to safely restrain a mud crab. Once the weather clears, we continue sailing to one of the most beautiful islands on Australia’s east coast — North Stradbroke Island, located just off Brisbane. #SailingAustralia #MoretonBay #NorthStradbrokeIsland #sailing #sailinglife

The opening race of the JJ Giltinan 18ft skiff World Championship 2026, presented by The Winning Group, produced a day dominated by light wind strength and a number of changes of direction which made for many surprising performances throughout the fleet, but nothing was going to stop the defending champion Yandoo team which powered to a great victory on Sydney Harbour today. Starting from the pin end of the line, Yandoo’s crew were unable to cross the fleet and for the first few minutes of the race were in the pack, but like many champions the crew found a way out and by midway up the first beat were a clear leader. By the end of the race Yandoo’s team of John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake easily crossed the finish line with a 1m4s victory over Australia’s Shaw and Partners Financial Services, (Keagan York, Max Paul and Tom Anderson). After a race-long battle between Rag & Famish Hotel (Ben Crafoord, Ryan Ewings and Max Nearn) and Fisher & Paykel (Brett Van Munster, Logan Radford and Tom Quigley), The Rag finally came out on top to take third place 1m10s behind Shaw and Partners. New Zealand’s Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Eli Liefting) finished in fifth place, ahead of The Kitchen Maker (Lachlan Steel), Queensland’s GC Sails (Scott Cunningham), Australian champion Balmain (Henry Larkings), Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich) and Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell) which finished in tenth place. Two disappointments came from the strong German Black Knight team, skippered by Heinrich von Bayern, which finished in 11th place ahead of yesterday’s Invitation race winner Smeg, skippered by Ash Rooklyn. On the plus side, the Andoo-USA team of Mikey Radziejowski, David Liebenberg and Daniel Roberts performed above expectations and with a little ‘luck’ could have finished closer to the top-10. In the conditions, the race officer/starter set a windward-leeward three-lap course, which had an elapsed time of 1:17:33. In very tricky conditions during the first minutes of the race, Shaw and Partners (Aust), Fisher & Paykel, Andoo-USA and Shaw and Partners (NZ) were at the head of the fleet which was spread across the harbour as the teams tried to find the best breeze. The experienced Yandoo crew went hard to the left and by midway up the first beat had established a small, but clear lead which enabled Yandoo to lead Shaw and Partners (Aust) by 12s. The young, lightweight Rag & Famish Hotel crew had also been near the leading group and grabbed third place ahead of Fisher & Paykel as the fleet set spinnakers for the run back to the bottom gates. Andoo-USA was in fifth place, ahead of Black Knight, Shaw and Partners (NZ) and GC Sails. Yandoo’s downwind speed was good and she opened up the lead to 25s over Shaw and Partners while Fished & Paykel had moved just ahead of Rag & Famish. Three boats came to the gates in line with Shaw and Partners (NZ) and GC Sails using their greater experience in 18s to both round the gate ahead of Andoo-USA. After the following beat back to the weather mark, Yandoo continued to extend her lead over Shaw and Partners, which was now to 47. The third boat was again Rag & Famish Hotel ahead of Fisher & Paykel, but this pair were now 1m45s from the lead. Over the next lap of the course, to the final weather mark, yandoo was 1m20s ahead of Shaw and Partners as the two leading teams headed for the finish near Clark Island where Yandoo crossed for an impressive win and early favouritism to take out her third consecutive Giltinan world title. Tomorrow’s weather prediction of 11-14 knots SE-SSE wind will provide all the ingredients for action and hopefully the opportunity for several teams to regain their best form to challenge Yandoo. After checking into Kota Kinabalu, we dive into a few unforgettable adventures — white water rafting through jungle rapids, witnessing incredible fireflies illuminate the riverbanks at night, and soaring high above the coastline while parasailing. It’s the perfect send-off before Emma heads home. We then sail to Dalit Bay, carefully navigating a shallow sandbar in a strong tidal river before anchoring securely. But the drama isn’t over. Another boat fails to negotiate the powerful current and drifts straight into us while we’re at anchor, slamming into our bow and causing damage. We’re forced to carry out temporary repairs to keep No Regrets II strong and watertight. Despite the unexpected collision, we finish on a high note with a wonderful cultural show and rally dinner as part of the Sail Malaysia Rally, celebrating another eventful chapter of the journey. Adventure, adrenaline, and proof that even when you’re safely at anchor… you’re never completely out of danger. Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world. The reality of sailing in San Blas is yachts still run aground. Despite heroic efforts she’s not budging yet. This is by the Swimming Pool. A single handed skipper came in in the dark, his engine reverse gear not working, his anchor windlass not working, probably tired, and apparently poor navigation led him on to the reef. We will try to get him off this afternoon. UPDATE Boat was hauled off. Mission accomplished! 2026-03-07

Today felt like the moment to step things up a bit. The past few days have been about settling into life out here. Finding a rhythm, getting comfortable on the boat, letting the days start to flow. But now that it’s starting to feel natural, it feels like time to push things a little further. So today I started working on celestial navigation. The goal wasn’t to get the perfect position. It was more about getting my head back into it. Making sure I have all the tools ready, remembering the process, and just starting again. And yes… I made a silly mistake that basically ruined the whole calculation. But honestly, that’s exactly why I wanted to start now. Better to make those mistakes early, while there’s no pressure. Now I know exactly what went wrong, and I definitely won’t make that one again. Apart from that, it’s been a calm day. I’ve also built a small routine that I really enjoy: every evening I play the ukulele and give the ocean a little concert. Nothing serious, just playing, sometimes writing a bit, sometimes singing. It’s something I do purely because it makes me happy. And today we finally managed something we’ve been waiting for. We raised the main all the way to the top. For a while we’ve been sailing a bit conservatively, waiting for the right moment. But today the conditions felt right, and it was so good to finally see the boat fully powered up the way she’s meant to be. The boat feels alive again. The wind is steady, the sails are working, and everything just feels like it’s coming together. One step deeper into the crossing. One step more into this life out here. 🌊⛵️🎶 ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. This sailing vlog documents the worst grounding we’ve ever experienced aboard our Royal Cape 500 catamaran while cruising the Florida Keys. After provisioning for three months in the Bahamas and picking up our repaired Code Zero from North Sails, we departed Key Largo and ran into immediate trouble. High winds, a narrow and poorly marked channel, equipment issues, and a wrapped prop line led to a hard aground impact on rocks — not mud or sand, but solid rock. Unlike previous soft groundings, this time we were completely stuck. Both rudders were damaged and split from the impact, leaving our liveaboard catamaran stranded in the Florida Keys and requiring a tow from Key Largo to Fort Lauderdale for repairs. In this episode of our sailing family journey: • Boom crane failure and bent aluminum shaft • Wrapping a mooring line around our prop • Navigating a tight channel in strong wind • Hitting rocks and damaging our rudders • Underwater inspection of rudder damage • Getting hard aground and unable to move • Being towed to Fort Lauderdale for catamaran repairs This is real cruising life — boat damage, grounding risks in shallow channels, Florida Keys navigation challenges, and the realities of maintaining a project boat while living aboard full-time. If you sail the Florida Keys, cruise the ICW, or own a catamaran, this episode shares an honest look at grounding, rudder damage, and what happens when things go wrong on a liveaboard sailing adventure.

275 days After I bought and paid for my sailboat, It was still sitting in a scam illegal impound. It occurred to me at around this stage, that perhaps I had underestimated just how dirty these guys had been playing. Back in Australia and now on my own, I had a chance to stop and think about everything and when I put the whole picture together, I realised just how diabolical this whole thing was. And it lit a fire under me. I realised I had to play dirty too. But with NO HELP from Authorities, Lawyers just as sketchy as the boatyard, and limited funds, my options were scarce. Enter AI. #boatfoolssailing #sailing #boatsforsale #floridasailing #beautifulboats 10 Sailboats Under $30K in Florida — Our #1 Pick Might Surprise You Ahoy BoatFools Nation! This week Canadian Ken and I head south to sunny Florida to find the greatest sailboats for sale for under $30k! This week's winner may surprise you! But all of these seem like winners! You could be out pursuing your sailing dreams before you know it. Don't listen to all of the BS about spending a fortune in order to enjoy sailing. Our buddy, Cape Dory Carlton, spent $9k on his awesome Cape Dory 30 9 years ago and, in addition to annual upkeep, has only purchased a new dodger over that time - and he sails more than anyone we know (anyone with a job, that is - which means most of us..). Sellers are getting anxious. Deals are in the offing! And if you live in Florida, one of these boats might be ideal for you. Any one of these sailboats would be perfect for day sailing, some weekend overnights, and some could even take you just about anywhere you'd want to go. Some of these boats will knock your socks off. Please note that we have no financial interest in any of these boats. Just sharing the information! And please contact us if you have any questions about any of these boats - happy to share our thoughts. And keep score at home and let us know which boat won on your scorecard. There’s something bizarre about where we’ve just found ourselves 🇺🇸? We've just sailed to an American River, but we're in Australia...Full time travelling, our boat, cat and each other are the only constants in our life. The days? They rarely look the same, whether its checking out a timber boat being built. Or taking advantage of what thrives in the waters beneath our keel, and scallop diving for food. In this video, we explain Radar Beacons (RACONs) and their role in marine radar navigation. A RACON is a receiver–transmitter installed on a fixed navigational aid that responds to a ship’s radar signal by transmitting a distinctive Morse-coded response. This signal appears on the radar display and helps mariners identify the navigational aid. #NavigationalAid #marineradar #arpa #passageplanning #voyageplanning #seamanship #maritime #seafarer #seaman #bsmt #maritimestudents #ecdis https://youtu.be/iVYZ9DNW9GE

Stewart Island has long felt remote, wild, and quietly legendary — a place many people dream of visiting. In this first episode of our Rakiura Track journey, we arrive on Stewart Island and take our first steps into the southern forest. Day one brought everything we had hoped for — wild coastline, deep bush, and that feeling of being far from the familiar. But even in those early steps, we began to notice things that stayed with us. This is Part 1 of our Stewart Island walking series — a story of first impressions, quiet forests, and what it means to truly walk through a landscape. We’re not experienced trampers — just travellers learning through the places we move through. And sometimes, walking slowly reveals more than we expect. Thanks for walking with us. Some places are hard to leave. The last days we spent in the Bahamas brought daily lightning storms, curious dolphins, and a few final dives before turning Dark Angel toward the Dominican Republic. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we’re anchored at Mathew Town, Great Inagua, waiting through daily lightning storms for a weather window to beat to the Dominican Republic. Dolphins keep visiting while we manage to get both engines running long enough to dock at the marina for fuel. Between storms we dive the shoreline and anchorage and finish getting Dark Angel ready for the passage south. These were our final dives in the Bahamas before sailing south toward the Dominican Republic. 🌊 Sailing Dark Angel follows our real-life journey sailing the Caribbean aboard our Island Spirit catamaran, sharing the challenges, adventures, and everyday moments of liveaboard sailing life. -------------------- 🎥 Become part of the Crew on Patreon Without a Crew, a Ship Has No Direction. Escaping Storms at Empire State-Sized Calpe Rock – Sailing Denia to Alicante - Sailing Helios S03E46
In this Sailing Helios episode, we cast off from Denia as thunderstorms rumble along the coast – not ideal sailing weather! We push on and find excellent shelter from the forecast strong winds tucked beside the dramatic Penyal d'Ifac (Peñón de Ifach), the iconic limestone rock in Calpe that towers 332 meters (over 1,000 feet) – as tall as the Empire State Building and dominating the Costa Blanca skyline. After waiting out the bad weather for a day (and enjoying the stunning views), we set sail south toward Alicante with the wind, waves, and current all pushing us along – finally some proper sailing! It's exhilarating to harness the breeze after the calm, but we're excited to arrive in Alicante for a few days of exploring the city and its sights. Stay tuned for the next episode, where we dive into Alicante adventures!
