In this episode we sail across the Coral Sea, experience a rough start, navigate challenging conditions, thread our way through underwater seamounts, and finally settle into some of the most beautiful sailing we’ve ever had. If you love travel, adventure, bluewater sailing, and following a real cruising journey across the South Pacific, this is the episode for you. We take you through the entire passage: our weather window, the early rough sea state, and the moment the ocean finally settles into those perfect “dream passage” conditions every sailor hopes for. This channel is all about slow travel, sailing adventures, and exploring the world by land and sea. If you want to experience what it’s really like to cross oceans, live aboard a sailboat, and discover incredible places at a slower pace, make sure you subscribe and join us for the journey. With almost no wind forecast between Vanuatu and New Caledonia, we expected a gentle crossing and plenty of motoring — and that’s exactly what unfolded. 330 nautical miles of calm seas, quiet days, and steady hours on board as we made our way toward New Caledonia. This episode is a simple, honest look at life at sea when the ocean turns silky smooth. No drama, no storms — just the two of us, Te Tāiko, and three and a half days of motoring, reading, resting, and watching the miles slowly tick by. After two incredible months sailing through Vanuatu, this passage from Ambae to Port Vila marks our last sail through these “Islands of Fire and Sea.” 🌋🌊 It’s a journey through volcanoes, coral reefs, and calm anchorages — the kind of sailing that reminds us why we chose this life. This episode captures our final days under sail before preparing Te Tāiko for the passage to New Caledonia — a moment of transition from one island nation to the next, and a reminder that the sea always connects the stories we live. Join us on Pentecost Island, Vanuatu, where we spend time in the remote village of Loltong Bay — a place rich in culture, connection, and everyday resilience. When we arrived, we were welcomed by Matthew and Marie, who run the Loltong Yacht Club. They invited us to see how life unfolds here — walking through the village and gardens, learning about the tree of life (the coconut), and sharing a traditional island meal. From cultural food preparation and the tradition of kava, this experience was one of the most meaningful parts of our time in Vanuatu. If you’re drawn to authentic travel experiences, island culture, and the people who make these places so special, this episode is for you. 📍 Location: Loltong Bay, Pentecost Island, Vanuatu 🌊 Series: By Land and Sea – Life Beyond the Map 🎥 Watch next: Life in the Maskelyne Islands #Vanuatu #PentecostIsland #CulturalTravel #IslandLife #TravelVlog #OffTheBeatenPath #VanuatuCulture #ByLandAndSea We hope you enjoy it! We sailed into the Maskelyne Islands expecting to stay just a few days — but the days slipped quietly into weeks. What we found here touched us deeply: connection, kindness, and a way of life that is both effortful and full of purpose. From walking with the Chief through the forest gardens, to repairing boats on Independence Day, to being welcomed without expectation into a community rooted in tradition — this is a story that goes beyond sailing. It’s about what it means to live well, to share happiness, and to carry perspective forward. This video is told slowly, with time, because some places can’t be rushed. We hope it makes you feel something — because for us, it’s an experience we’ll carry for a very long time. ✨ Chapters: 0:00 A Story of Connection 0:40 An Island in the Maskelynes 2:13 Where Friendliness is a Way of Life 6:52 Sustained by the Land 10:48 Independence Day 14:55 Small Comforts, Big Difference 15:13 What We Will Take With Us 🔔 Subscribe for more stories from our sailing journey. 🌊 Support our journey and get exclusive stories. #Sailing #Vanuatu #TravelWithPurpose #MaskelyneIslands We hope you enjoy it! We’re starting our sail to the remote north of Vanuatu — leaving behind the bustle of Port Vila and heading toward quieter waters, coral anchorages, and a different pace of life. On our way to Nguna Island, we pass the wreck of Blue Gold — a 50-metre superyacht that now rests just offshore, a striking sight as we begin our northern journey. Nguna’s anchorage is surrounded by coral, so we take our time — carefully finding a patch of sand, diving on the chain, and making sure we’re anchored securely without harming the reef. In this episode: ⚓ Starting our journey to Vanuatu’s remote north 🛥️ Passing the grounded wreck of Blue Gold 🌊 Searching for a safe spot to anchor among coral 🐠 Diving to check the chain in 15 metres of clear water This is the kind of travel we live for — thoughtful, slow, and full of quiet moments that stay with you. After nine months exploring New Caledonia, we set sail once again — this time across open ocean to Vanuatu. This video shares the experience of what it’s like to be back at sea after so long behind the reef. From the calm of the lagoon to the motion of the open Pacific, we reflect on the emotions, nerves, and moments of quiet beauty that come with ocean sailing. The long hours, the unpredictability of the sea, the salt crusted over everything, and the simple act of watching waves roll by — this is life at sea in its most honest form. Whether you’re a fellow sailor or someone who’s never set foot on a boat, this episode is a window into what it truly feels like to live by wind and water. We hope you enjoy it! Join us as we sail into one of the wildest and most beautiful corners of New Caledonia—Anse Majic and the dramatic Cap N’Dua lighthouse. This adventure includes everything we love about life at sea: close encounters with dolphins, remote anchorages, and jaw-dropping scenery. After sheltering from a powerful electrical storm up the Prony River, we set off to explore the southern tip of Grande Terre. The landscape here is raw and unfiltered—contrasting red soil, lush green forest, and turquoise waters. Hiking up to the Cap N’Dua lighthouse gave us panoramic views and a chance to reflect as our time in New Caledonia draws to a close. To top it off, we were joined by a pod of dolphins riding Te Tāiko’s bow wave—the most we’ve ever seen in one place! 🌏 Whether you’re into sailing, van life, slow travel, or exploring remote places, we invite you to come along. 🎥 Don’t forget to subscribe, give it a thumbs up, and leave a comment—we’d love to hear from you! 💙 A huge thanks to our Patreon crew for helping us keep these adventures going. #sailingadventure #newcaledonia #offgridliving #travelcouple #remotetravel #sailboatlife #dolphins #capndua #oceanlife #adventuretravel We hope you enjoy it! We set sail from Nouméa with plans to head for the Loyalty Islands — but like most of our South Pacific cruising, our plans changed. In this episode, we navigate a new course along the east coast of New Caledonia, uncovering remote beauty and unexpected challenges. Along the way, we crossed the infamous Havannah Pass — one of the main passages through New Caledonia’s barrier reef, known for its strong tidal currents and tight timing windows — not once, but twice in just two days. Instead of our original route, we discovered: ⚓ The stunning natural anchorage in the Yaté River 🌊 The raw power and precision of the Havannah Pass 🤝 The importance of sticking together and adapting at sea 🌴 A glimpse of New Caledonia few sailors ever see If you’re dreaming of off-grid sailing, exploring the South Pacific, or just love a good twist in the journey — this one’s for you. 🎥 Subscribe for more sailing, travel, and adventure from our life aboard in the Pacific! We’re back on board! After months of road-tripping through New Zealand in our motorhome, we’ve left the bus behind and flown back to Nouméa, New Caledonia, to reunite with our sailboat Te Tāiko. But tropical waters don’t rest—and she’s grown a serious underwater jungle! In this video, we take you through the full haulout process: lifting Te Tāiko out of the water, inspecting the heavy growth on her hull, and getting to work cleaning, prepping, and applying fresh antifoul. It’s messy, physical, and 100% part of the real liveaboard sailing lifestyle. Whether you’re passionate about sailing, dreaming of boat life, or love watching travel stories unfold, this episode dives into what it takes to maintain a cruising sailboat in the South Pacific. ⛵ In this episode: • Returning to Nouméa after our NZ adventure • Seeing our boat for the first time in months • Hauling out at a Nouméa boatyard • Dealing with serious hull growth • Antifouling and prepping Te Taiko for the season • The emotional shift from van life back to boat life We’re so excited to get back to life at sea—thanks for coming along on the journey!
