A poorly anchored work barge drifted through the anchorage, causing serious damage to boats that were otherwise securely moored. From Stan’s crushed dinghy to the sunken pirogues being pulled from the depths, we look at the harsh reality of boat ownership in these waters. But amidst the wreckage, we celebrate the locals who hold this community together, like Arona, who knows the sandy bottom better than anyone. Despite the destruction and the pollution, this is also about "Terranga"—the welcoming spirit of Senegal that keeps us here. After days of nonstop rain, we finally get some sunshine and make the most of it! 🌴☀️ In this episode, we start with a few cosmetic boat jobs we’ve been putting off while waiting for the weather to improve. Then we set sail through Bocas del Toro, Panama, heading to Dolphin Bay Yacht Club to check out one of the popular cruising spots on the islands and meet some of the people who call this beautiful part of Panama home. From there, we sail to Starfish Beach on Isla Colón, where the weather finally turns picture perfect. Nous quittons Lisbonne et la marina de Cascais à bord de Majentess pour mettre le cap sur Sesimbra. Une navigation très agréable avec une belle mer et jusqu’à 15 nœuds de vent : cette fois, nous profitons davantage de la voile que du moteur ! Nous passons la nuit au mouillage de Sesimbra, dans une ambiance un peu particulière… Le mouillage est bien venté mais reste parfaitement stable, tandis qu’à terre la fête bat son plein jusqu’à 6 heures du matin ! 🎶😂 Le lendemain matin, nous reprenons la mer en direction de Sines. Le vent est beaucoup plus faible et, pour passer le temps, nous décidons de mettre une ligne de traîne derrière Majentess. Et là… surprise ! 😳🦈 Quelque chose de beaucoup plus gros que prévu vient mordre à l’hameçon : un requin de plus d’un mètre ! La remontée est loin d’être simple et sa libération nous demande quelques efforts. Mais tout se termine bien : le requin repart à l’eau sans blessure et sans hameçon. 👍 Nous terminons cette étape à Sines, où nous découvrons une petite marina très sympathique, avant de poursuivre notre voyage vers le sud du Portugal. I thought my liferaft was my last line of defence. Then I had it inspected at a certified Lalizas service station in Mauritius — and I got the shock of my life. The liferaft had become completely unusable. Luckily, I had arranged the inspection in time. Because the liferaft was still under warranty, Lalizas sent a replacement liferaft from Europe. But getting a liferaft to Mauritius isn't as simple as putting it on a plane. Due to the compressed gas cylinder and pyrotechnics, transporting it by air is not possible. Fortunately, Bosss Marine in Mauritius was able to help. They replaced the cylinder and flares locally, making it possible to get my safety equipment back in order. This experience was a serious reminder: don't assume your liferaft is ready just because it is sitting on your boat. Have it professionally inspected before you actually need it. 💙 Love my videos? In October 1955, the Joyita, a 69-foot motor yacht chartered for a routine supply run, set sail from Samoa for the Tokelau Islands with 25 people aboard. She was an incredibly sturdy, oak and cedar ship packed with five inches of solid cork insulation—making her physically incapable of sinking. When the ship failed to arrive, a massive aerial search yielded nothing. But five weeks later, the Joyita was discovered 600 miles off course, flooded and heavily listed, yet perfectly afloat. Her life rafts were missing, all 25 souls had vanished without a trace, and the eerily preserved crime scene included frozen clocks, bloodstained bandages, and a severed radio wire. Two come from Amels, while VANISH was built by Feadship, and all three were delivered within a year of each other. On paper they may appear relatively similar, but once David starts comparing their volume, layouts, deck spaces and prices, three very different yachts emerge. At 1,790 GT, SYNTHESIS already offers substantial volume, with VANISH close behind at 1,728 GT. But ENERGY moves into another category at an extraordinary 2,885 GT, giving her more than 1,000 GT of additional volume compared with SYNTHESIS despite being only a little over three metres longer.
