#vidaabordo #travessia #mar #veleiro #vidanomar

Winter is finally starting to loosen its grip in Newfoundland, and that means one thing—spring boat projects are underway aboard Arabella. This week, we shift gears from skiing and backcountry travel to life aboard the boat, tackling the kinds of projects that keep a wooden sailboat ready for the next season. From repairing a decades-old hatchet that’s been part of this journey since childhood to rebuilding parts of the interior and preparing new wood for upcoming repairs, it’s all about making do with what we have and improving things one step at a time. Working aboard a boat in a limited space—with limited tools—means every project is a balance between function, efficiency, and adaptability. Nothing is ever truly finished, and everything is designed to evolve. As the ice begins to break up around Arabella, the focus shifts toward getting the boat ready for the upcoming cruising season—and all the adventures that come with it. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! What if a 27-meter yacht could feel like something much bigger? The Wally Why 200 redefines space on the water, focusing on openness, glass and a deeper connection with the sea. Its flowing teak deck hides two garages for a 4.15m tender and water toys, while the main deck is where the design truly stands out — a seamless indoor-outdoor living area filled with natural light thanks to expansive glass surfaces. In Episode 26 of UK Sailmakers’ Lessons Learned podcast, host Buttons Padin speaks with Belgian offshore sailor Quentin Debois about his Mini 6.5 campaign, his sailing background, and his recent record-breaking Atlantic crossing. Quentin only began sailing at age 31 after a friend introduced him to a Hobie 16 on the Belgian North Sea. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion, leading him to formal training in France and ultimately into offshore racing in the demanding Mini 6.5 class—a 6.5-metre (21-foot) solo offshore racing boat known for its speed, instability, and extreme demands on both sailor and equipment. One of Quentin’s standout achievements is his recent east-to-west Atlantic record attempt, sailing from Cádiz, Spain, to San Salvador in The Bahamas via a Grand Canaria waypoint. He completed the crossing in 24 days, 19 hours, significantly lowering the previous under-7m record of 30 days, 22 hours. The campaign was supported by a dedicated team including a router, coach, technical preparer, and mental coach, highlighting the level of coordination required even in “solo” offshore racing. Preparation played a critical role. Quentin and his team fully rebuilt the boat before departure, and UK Sailmakers Belgium equipped his boat with a reefable jib, a Code 0, and A2 and A5 spinnakers that performed throughout the crossing. When he required repairs on an older mainsail for a subsequent record attempt, UK Sailmakers Miami supported a rapid turnaround to keep the campaign on track. Quentin’s approach is highly disciplined—he sails without an engine and constantly manages boat trim, including shifting approximately 250kg of internal ballast during manoeuvres. His focus now turns to future record attempts, including Miami to New York and New York back to the UK (Lizard Point), each timed around precise weather routing. The year gets off to a turbulent start. One storm follows another; at night we have to keep watch at anchor, and during the day we can hardly get off the boat. Due to the flooding, the dams had to be drained, resulting in strong currents and plenty of flotsam. One night, this turns into a real problem for us...

Jason's 233 Formula and she's an absolute weapon. Finished in storm grey, this classic 233 Formula is one of the cleanest builds we've seen come through. Fitted with a bimini and clears, it's a setup that looks the part and works hard. Plenty of airflow for those warm Western Australia days, while keeping everything protected when you need it. Built to perform and ready for anything offshore, this one is heading north to Karratha where it'll be right at home. Simple. Sharp. Sorted. For the sixth time, Bow Caddy has been commissioned to document this wonderful Charity event for the Renewable Energy Committee and their sponsors. It was a day with the four seasons, wind, no wind, sun & torrential rain, followed by more sun to wrap up the event on the beach. A great day for everyone.

Explore Croatia’s islands on two wheels, tackling varied and interesting terrain as you go! Our Cycle Cruises are led by a professional cycling guide and include a hearty breakfast and lunch (or dinner) onboard, large sundecks to relax and unwind in the evenings, and a challenging, yet rewarding cycling itinerary. With four itineraries to choose from, guests can enjoy the best of Croatia and cruising! A sample itinerary of destinations visited on the Split Return South route can be found below: Day 1 Split: Check-in is from 10.30am to 12.00pm. Day 1 Milna: We depart from Split harbour at 13:00, with lunch onboard as you get to know your fellow shipmates. We sail from the mainland and head toward the island of Brac, arriving mid-afternoon. Our first ride begins as we cycle to Bobovišça, a small hamlet set on the western side of Brac just under the mountain top, overlooking the sea. You will be able to dive into the turquoise water here or enjoy a coffee. Day 2 Bol: This first stage begins with a climb to the crest of a hill, past stunning local flora. The white stone visible here was used to build the White House in Washington and the Reichstag in Berlin. At the 35km mark, you have the opportunity to try traditional food and wine in a local village (please note lunch is optional). The panoramic views of the neighboring island of Hvar are well worth the ascent! In Bol itself, you can visit the Golden Horn beach (about 2.5km from the port), take a swim, or stroll through the local streets. Day 3 Hvar: The island of Hvar is famous for its multi-coloured fields of rosemary and lavender. On the first cycling stage, you'll make your way through the many villages on the island via paved and gravel roads. From Jelsa, we cycle towards Vrboska and then down to Stari Grad, one of Croatia's oldest towns (dating back to 385BC), where we will stop for a break. We continue on towards Hvar Town, passing through the villages of Grablje (known for its wine and olive oil) and Brusje. The day ends at the historical town of Hvar for an opportunity to visit the cathedral and Gothic palaces. Day 4 Korcula: Today we will ride from Racisce - Lumbarda. The peaceful and secluded gardens of cypress trees here make Korcula one of the most beautiful of the Adriatic islands. Korcula claims to be the birthplace of Marco Polo and the name can be seen all over the island. Our final destination is the medieval town of Korcula with its attractive narrow streets. Day 5 Mljet: Breakfast is served onboard, en route to the island of Mjlet, also known as Honey-Island. Mljet two lakes (Great Lake and Small Lake). In the twelfth century, Benedictine built a monastery here in a secluded spot, surrounded by pine and oak forests. Today this area is a National Park and the high point of any tour of Dalmatia. You can cycle around the National Park's salt-water lake, in which there is actually another island. After lunch, you are free to explore more of the island by bike or perhaps swim or kayak in the Small Lake. Day 6 Makarska: This morning we sail toward the Peljesac peninsula where we’ll start our ride from either Kuciste or Viganj. We cycle through this famous wine-growing region toward Orebic where we will have a short break and take in the beautiful countryside. On the ride back the climb is not easy, but rewards you with magnificent views of the neighbouring island of Korcula. We’ll meet the boat in Loviste where a delicious lunch will be served onboard. This afternoon take in the Adriatic Sea as your ship cruises into Makarska for the evening, a popular town at the base of the impressive Biokovo mountain range. Day 7 Split: After breakfast onboard, we will take our last bike ride of the week. The route takes us to Radmanove Mlinice, where the ""Winnetou"" movies were filmed, along the valley of the Cetina river, right underneath the mountains. In Omis, you can visit the Mirabella Fortress, which offers views over the channel towards Brac island. After lunch onboard, the ship will sail back to the city of Split, where you can take a tour of the fascinating Roman Diocletian's Palace. After a relaxed city walk in this unique historic town, you return to your ship in the nearby harbour. Day 8 Split: This morning it's time for an early onboard breakfast, before saying goodbye to the crew and all of your new friends.
