So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. The last season we are starting to build a new aluminum 43ft sailboat and a new life. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. My DIY project continues. Lots of sanding is required to prepare Celinas hull for the osmosis treatment. Luckily her hull was dry to the bone and no osmosis was detected. To keep it this way I closed all holes and cracks with thickened epoxy and applied five layers of Gel-Shield 200. Antifouling protection was applied afterwards using Hempels Silic One biocide free fouling release system. To be continued...

We travelled to some of the most remote and untouched islands in the Whitsundays — places few ever get the chance to explore! Our journey begins at Goldsmith Island, where we explored the bay and spotted so many turtles gliding through the clear blue water. Gary even caught a few sharks — what a moment! 🦈 Next, we set sail for Cockermouth Island, an absolute paradise that left me speechless. From its crystal-clear waters and rocky islets to a little cheeky skinny dip, this place had it all! I could have stayed much longer, but the winds had other plans. Then it was off to Brampton Island, which completely surprised us! From hiking Brampton Peak for incredible views, to walking the sandbar between Carlisle and Brampton, and even exploring the peaceful Pelican Island, there was so much to love about this spot. Rich was swimming with the same curious young humpback whale that I swam with. He kept approaching until they were literally eye to eye — an absolutely mesmerizing moment. The whale twirled through the water like a graceful ballerina. Juvenile humpback whales are known for their playful and inquisitive behavior, especially when their mothers are close by. His mom was just below us the whole time, calmly watching over her adventurous calf. Seeing that mother-calf bond and their natural behavior up close was truly magical. 💙 🎥 Watch for: 🐋 Eye-to-eye moments with a humpback calf 🌊 Playful whale behavior and mother-calf interaction 💥 The moment I accidentally got smacked by his fin!

Still away from my boat, I’m in Shibuya, Tokyo, standing beside the iconic Moyai statue, a gift from Niijima Island. Years ago, I sailed there by chance and found these statues all across the island—modern interpretations of the Moai of Easter Island (Rapa Nui). What’s fascinating is how three very different “moai” traditions share a common heartbeat: community, protection, and social connection. ---- Rapa Nui Moai (Easter Island) The original monoliths honored ancestors, believed to watch over and protect communities. Their creation required enormous collective effort — a symbol of shared purpose. ----- Niijima Moyai (Tokyo / Niijima Island) Inspired by Easter Island, these statues also play on Japanese word meanings: moyai = to moor a boat moyai = to gather / work together They embody community and coming together. ----- Okinawa Moai (Social Circles) In Okinawa, moai are lifelong social groups — mutual support networks sharing resources, friendship, and emotional care. Scholars say they help prevent kodokushi — lonely death, especially among elders. It’s no wonder Okinawa is a global longevity hotspot. Community is not an accessory, it’s a survival skill. These layers of meaning inspired my new book, Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan. Mais pas question de se reposer : on enchaîne directement avec le deuxième moteur, fraîchement révisé avec un alternateur remis à neuf. Doch Sizilien ist nur der Anfang. Es gibt ein Ziel, das ich noch nicht verrate… 🌙 Also komm mit – auf eine Reise zwischen Schraubenschlüssel und Sternenhimmel, zwischen Rückkehr und Aufbruch. Denn manchmal beginnt das größte Abenteuer genau dann, wenn du glaubst, alles verloren zu haben. ⚓️ Also: Leinen los, Kaffee in die Hand und ab in die neue Etappe! Nach einer schweren Krebserkrankung starte ich einen Neuanfang. Ich möchte meinem Leben eine neue Richtung geben und steige aus. Ich nehme mir eine unbefristete Auszeit unter Segeln. Dies ist die Geschichte meines Segeltörns. We took some very good friends from Cairns over to Fitzroy Island for a long weekend of fun, snorkelling, and some much-needed time to reconnect. With a Spanish Mackerel on the line on our way over, there was plenty of fresh fish to share with the whole gang. The snorkelling was incredible – healthy coral, schools of colourful fish, and then a truly magical moment when a curious turtle swam right up to the camera. It felt calm, connected and utterly unforgettable – one of those encounters that reminds you why the ocean has such a hold on us. It was so special to share this time with people who truly matter. A final catch-up back in Trinity Inlet – capped off with some unexpected fireworks – was the perfect ending to a weekend that had it all. Thanks Cairns, how lovely to see you again. Our dream dinghy has turned out to be not so dreamy. We analyzed and rated our top 4 dinghies in past episodes and chose the UP340 from Ultralight Performance (UP) Boats. At the time we thought it was the best dinghy for us. We ordered it in July 2023 with a delivery date of December 2023. However, through various issues, our UP340 was not delivered until April 2025, over 16 months behind schedule. We were patient and explained away the constant delays thinking that any design improvements would benefit us. Imagine our disappointment when our UP340 arrived with a structural crack in the transom. Promises of a replacement from UP Boats faded away with the company. The last we heard was that UP Boats was going through restructuring with some external investors which was to be completed in September 2025. It is now November 2025, UP Boats have vacated their shop and no one has heard a response. I have to assume at this point that UP Boats are no more. Now we have to make this work, first on the list is to repair the transom crack. We should have paid the extra money for Offshore Cruising Tender (OCT) from the beginning. In our videos, we explained why we chose the UP340 from UP Boats, LLC, based in Opa Locka, Florida. It met all our criteria and was proudly made in the USA. Unfortunately, our UP340 arrived 14 months late and already showed visible damage while still on the delivery truck. The damage turned out to be structural, and we immediately reported it to UP Boats, LLC. Despite having shipping insurance and receiving repeated assurances that a replacement would be provided, none ever arrived. As of July 10, 2025, all communication with UP Boats, LLC has ceased. It now appears that UP Boats, LLC is no longer in operation. Numerous complaints and legal actions have been filed by other buyers, indicating we are not alone in this experience. A quick online search for UP Boats reveals a troubling pattern. We will soon be posting videos on this channel detailing the problems we encountered with our damaged UP340 and the steps we had to take to make it marginally seaworthy. In hindsight, the cost savings from purchasing the UP340 do not justify the compromises we faced. We would have been far better off investing in a proven, high-quality Offshore Cruising Tender such as the OCT 350. *** End of Read ***
