We explain about the advantages of building a metal boat using this interesting method, that was the main reason why we choose to work with Meta Yachts. If you are interested in building a Meta 43DS Odd and want to know more about it, please email oddlifecrafting@gmail.com We also show our workshop finally ready and the amount of things we were able to fit inside a tiny workshop and explain a little bit about the tools we have inside it thanks to all the partners we have for our projects: @sikagroup @Robland @PIHERCLAMPS @KregToolCompany @famagwerkzeugfabrik3332 @Brennenstuhlofficial We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. #SafeharborLMC #NewRiverFortLauderdale #PierSixtySix Sailing Catamaran; Fort Lauderdale; Safe Harbor Marina; Fort Lauderdale Marinas; New River Fort Lauderdale; Navigating the New River by Boat; Fountain Pajot Catamaran; Fort Lauderdale Bridges; New River Bridges; 3rd Avenue Bridge; Andrew's Avenue Bridge; Seventh Avenue Bridge; Davie Blvd. Bridge. Hello everyone. This video is a little bit older, the date of this video is from last year, March 30th of 2023. It is an important video because we want people to realize how challenging navigation can be when going up and down this river to the Lauderdale Marine Center which is part of the Safe Harbor chain of marinas. It's important to take someone who has some experience with you if you have the means, or if you do not, we recommend that you read up on the online information and have all the calls on the VHF lined up as you go. Make sure you know where the obstacles are and have a map in hand that lets you know where they are. We were fortunate enough to have three people with us who had all been up and down the river a few times already. Enjoy the video and thanks for watching! #svingenuity #sv_ingenuity #sailingingenuity #sailingchannel #sailingtravel channel #howtobeginsailing #sailingmaincoons #sailingwithcats #sailingwithanimals #sailingandworking #sailingDIY #boatwork #boatprojects #boatproject #DIYboatprojects #fountainepajot #fountainepajotsaona47 #fountainepajottanna #fountainepajotyacht #FPSaona47 #FPYacht #FPsailboat #FPcatamaran Help support our channel and become a patron: https://www.patreon.com/heidiandfrannysailing https://www.amazon.com/shop/heidiandfrannysailing Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heidiandfrannysailing Website: http://www.heidiandfrannysailing.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557106430356 Ozzie & Zeke's (our Maine Coons) Social Media YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@OzzieandZeke Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ozzieandzeke/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077410124389&sk=reels_tab Disclaimer: Due to factors beyond the control of “Heidi and Franny’s Sailing”, We cannot guarantee against improper use or unauthorized modifications of this information. “Heidi and Franny’s Sailing” assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred due to any of the information contained in this video. Episode 052 We've been exploring the various anchorages that Port Fitzroy, Great Barrier Island has to offer. In this episode, we anchor in Port Fitzroy and dinghy cruise to Glenfern Sanctuary, a predator free sanctuary on Great Barrier Island, New Zealand. These sanctuaries are important to us because they provide the opportunities of close encounters with some of New Zealand's highly threatened species few get to experience. If you do have the opportunity to visit Great Barrier Island, make sure Glenfern Sanctuary is on your list of things to do and see. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. A nomadic duo who traded land life for a life on the water. Follow us to see what we see and what it's like living a nomadic lifestyle. Currently exploring New Zealand but a big adventure is coming soon! In December 2021, we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40, and we have been fortunate to sail to many of New Zealand’sislands and anchorages. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but plan to do blue water cruising. Whilst sailing New Zealand's northern coastline, we're completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills sailing New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #sailinglife

#catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #Canouan #mandarinoriental #sandylaneyachtclub After Bequia, we headed to Canouan, a little known, enigmatic luxury island in the Grenadines where the experience at Sandy Lane Yacht Club was quite unexpected and surreal. We left Bequia in a BIG hurry when a very rare western swell came in which was caused by a storm coming down from the north. Boats were rocking and swinging and it wouldn’t be long before we would get hit! So, the next island south - hopefully away from the swell - was Canouan. "Canouan" comes from the Arawakan word for turtle. The Arawakan’s were the original island inhabitants. We were hoping to see some of the red footed tortoises during our stay. Canouan is one of the Caribbean’s most up and coming luxury destinations. Located in the heart of the Grenadines, less than 20 miles south of Mustique and 110 miles west of Barbados, the 3 square-mile island is surrounded by small bays and coves, secluded white sand beaches and one of the Caribbean’s largest coral reefs, offering incredible diving and snorkeling. It is said to be the island where billionaires go to get away from millionaires. Most of the northern part of the island is private resorts - Mandarin Oriental and Canouan Estate Resort with a Jim Fazio designed 18-hole course. There is not a lot here for people to visit if you are not on a resort. You do have easy access to Tobago Cays, Union Island, and Mayreau for more exploration. Sandy Lane Yacht Club We headed straight to Sandy Lane Yacht Club, a luxury marina and resort, to hide for a little while, on the south side of Glossy Bay. Brand new docks, modern amenities, shops, restaurants and totally protected. The executive airport is right behind the marina, making it convenient for the jet set, but a little noisy and you do smell the diesel at times if you are staying on board. We enjoyed the beach and the pool and tried to snorkel the reefs, but the swell was too rough. Charlestown - Friendship Bay We did visit the capital city of Charlestown in Friendship Bay. Beautiful waters, especially by L'Anse Guyac, a nice place usually to anchor by the resort there - also owned by Mandarin Oriental. In town, we did not find much worthwhile besides the Soho Beach House resort. Is Canouan Worth the Visit? In 10 years, we predict this island will be even more developed by the resorts. We did find our visit worthwhile. If we had more time, we also would have hiked around the island more. If the normal trade winds were blowing, instead of the western swell, we imagine we would have been able to snorkel the large expanse of reefs. Maybe next time.... Welcome to a week in the life on Arabella. Friday: The day starts off with a huuuge cup of coffee. The rainy day is the perfect opportunity for Steve to practice making eye splices with a double braided line. Robin and Steve spend time training to get ready for their summer plans. While Robin has been consistent with her workouts, Steve needs to add to his routine in order to be ready for the climbing walls in Canada. The Flash Board and some floor exercises provide a nice workout circuit, but Steve has a great solution for working on strength and training—the Force Board. This tool can help determine their max pull power, assisting with hangboard training. Enjoy the friendly competition of finding out who’s stronger… Saturday: Robin finds a little piece of magic during a trip to the beach. Steve and Robin take advantage of the beautiful weather and go for a bike ride. Sunday: It’s finally feeling like spring. There’s nothing better than waking up to a clear and sunny day. After a long, cold, wet, windy winter, this change in weather is more than welcome to stay for a while. Monday: Steve takes some time to address the comments on the use of the plastic cutting board up in the rig to mount navigation. While this solution isn’t permanent, it works great for now and will allow the gear to be tested out on the water. Tuesday: Steve checks to make sure there are fasteners available for some pieces that need to get installed, including the hinges for the afterdeck, chalk for Victoria along with some cleats, and a bottle opener. With a work & play organized for the upcoming weekend in Harwich Port, it will be nice to have some projects ready to go. Looking forward to having some extra hands on deck! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Welcome back aboard Polaris as we unveil the unseen side of our cruising lifestyle in our latest video. After a period of silence, we are thrilled to share our work during a wet and windy winter in Largs. Join us as we dive deep into the realm of maintenance, repairs, and upgrades aboard our cherished Polaris, gearing her up for the upcoming season of exploration and discovery. Witness the hustle and bustle of our winter months as Polaris undergoes a transformation. From the unstepping of the mast to a meticulous lift-out and several weeks spent in the shed, we capture the key moments as we work tirelessly to ensure Polaris is in top-notch condition. Delve into the challenges as we inspect and rectify the damage inflicted upon our keel and rudder during a grounding incident in the Crinan Canal last autumn. One of our most significant endeavors involves raising the waterline of our Coppercoat antifouling, resolving a persistent issue that has long plagued us. Additionally, after 7 years of faithful service, the time has come to replace the sail drive gaiter, a critical task ensuring the integrity of our vessel's hull. We upgrade our mast wiring and illuminate our journey with the installation of LED technology for our anchor light and tri-color combi masthead navigation light. We also installed a new heater and upgraded our comms but that's for next time - stay tuned. This is part 2 and the finish of our learning to sew on a boat with Sailrite Video tutorials. In this video we start the process of Cutting the foam, stuffing the foam into the covers, and learn to template for irregular cushions. I have very little to no experience with a sewing, cutting foam, or making odd shaped cushion materials. So we do this with the help of Sailrite videos to learn how to make box cushions. This part 2 video shows how we make the cushion covers into cushions to get a complete product. This video is not sponsored but would like to thank Sailrite for having videos out there that can teach someone how to do different projects. #sailingfamily #sailingadventures #boatlife #sailing #travel #bestplace #tropical #pacificocean Navigating around shallow areas can be tricky if you are not alert and watching closely for coral...or at least holding your breath. Sailing with a load of rivets missing can also be quite worrying. But when you reach your destination and find the things you are looking for, a hike and a view can put it all into perspective. We also appreciate a fascinating tour of a South Pacific Pearl Farm ( Champon pearl farm in Tahaa) , Irenka finds the treehouse she has imagined and then we all find the coral garden of our dreams. More progress towards carbon-fibre stanchions with fully sealed decks. Today we were using the router to round off the top edges of the FR4 stanchion bases. These will be epoxied onto the existing triangles that the the original stanchions were bolted to. A 26mm carbon-fibre tube will go through this FR4 and all the way through the deck into a hole filled with thickened epoxy. The stanchion tube will slide onto it. This is a top level, simple DIY list that will help you quickly determine if a sailboat is worthy of being on your potential wish list. You've got your budget, your place to moor and store your boat, now you just need your dream machine to make it all come to fruition. You have 5 sailboats within your budget and you don't want to hire a marine surveyor to look at everyone of them. So what do you do? You get out there and start kicking the proverbial wheels, or jack stands, as it were. You have the know-how and this list will keep you focused. Grab a large screwdriver, a notepad, a flashlight, and a camera and get out there! Sailing season is coming right up - don't miss another one! Below is more or less what we go over in the video. Episode 051 In this episode Adam takes you through the three emergency steering systems we have on board our sailboat, Te Tāiko. The first is our emergency steering tiller that attaches directly to the rudder, the second which is our hydrovane self-steering system, and the third is soon to be the drogue we will have aboard. Tāiko's rudder stock is approximately 100 mm aluminum. Unfortunately, there have been cases where these rudder stock have failed. We have decided not to replace the rudder stock at present but we share with you what our contingencies are should we lose our steering or our rudder stock fails. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out!
Finally we have reached a decision regarding what direction we should go with regarding the keel. It feels really good to finally have reached a final decision after a lot of weeks considering different options - Should we keep the swing keel? Or cast a new keel ourselves? But before we made the final decision we removed the "wings" of the swing keel as a final evaluation. In this video we also start some other jobs that needs to be completed before splash day; we remove the propeller shaft so that we can replace the cutlass bearing and shaft sealing, and we also start to remove the through-hulls. We sailed to Bequia, the largest island in the Grenadines at 7 square miles. The Sail from St. Vincent to Bequia was only about an hour, hardly long enough to put the sails up! We anchored in Admiralty Bay out between Princess Margaret Beach and Lower Bay. We stayed for a week in Bequia - met plenty of fellow sailors anchored in the large bay, enjoyed miles of sandy beaches, numerous beach bars, restaurants and shopping. One of the highlights of our time in Bequia was Moonhole, a community built into the cliffs on the far edge of Bequia. In order to see it, we had to snorkel in the front bay. You may have watched a SV Delos episode 10 years ago, where they interview one of the owners. MOONHOLE HISTORY Moonhole derives its name from a massive arch formed in volcanic substrate through which the setting moon is sometimes visible. Founded by Thomas and Gladys Johnston in the 1960s, Moonhole is now a private nature preserve. In the late 1960s, the Johnstons retired from an advertising business in New York and founded the Moonhole community on the narrow western tip of the island. Tom and Gladys began building a house beneath the arch with the aid of local masons from the nearby village of Paget Farm. Using whalebones, native hardwoods, and objects recovered from the sea, they built large open rooms with sea views. Without wells or electricity, they collected rainwater from the roofs and stored it in cisterns for bathing and washing. The master bath had a large tree that grew right up through a large hole in the roof. Large windows facing the prevailing trade winds had plexiglass panes that could be lowered into place. The bedrooms surrounded a central dining room, veranda and large bar made from a humpback whale’s jaw bone. In the early years there was not even a road to Moonhole. People from Paget Farm walked in daily to bring in fresh fruit and freshly baked bread and to do any necessary cooking. https://www.moonholecompany.com/mission-and-history EXPLORING TOWN With our guests Bill and Pauline, we set off to explore town. Bequia has a really nice walkway that goes from town all the way to Lower Bay. It’s a longish walk, but plenty of places to stop along the way for rest, refreshments and swimming. We loved our lunch at Mango Restaurant, overlooking the water. That night, a quick stop at Bar One floating bar. We also hired a tour truck and saw the Friendship Bay side of the island, with the whaling museum. We tried to stop at Firefly for lunch, but when we sat down and could not get any service, we knew it would be a 2 hour ordeal, so we went on our way. Laundry service came to your boat! Very entrepreneurial! Cocktail Lab was a favorite spot to hang out - only for drinks and light snacks. After Bill and Pauline left, we woke the next morning to a western swell coming into the anchorage. Because the trade winds are always from East, this wreaks havoc in the anchorages, so we made a hasty exit and sailed further south. We did not know quite where we could find a safe anchorage, but it was better to be on the sea than anywhere else. We ended up at Sandy Lane on Canouan Island - a very good choice. Windy Work Installing Navigation Electronics - Ep. 307 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
Upgrade your mornings with better coffee. Head to http://aeropress.com/acorn and save 20% off your order! Thanks to AeroPress for sponsoring today's video! Have we mentioned it’s been windy lately? Steve works on setting up the navigation electronics on the mizzen mast, wiring it into the boat, and getting everything up & running. The first move is to get the cables routed down the conduit on the mast. If all goes well, then he will bring up the bases. The wind is adding an extra element to this project, making it tricky to bring up the Garmin dome. It’s not going to be comfortable—or fun—but luckily, Steve is used to heights. With all the mounts in place and cables running down the mast, the next step is to get the cables through the house top and over to the navigation table. Steve also adds USB charging ports for use in the cockpit, which is Robin’s favorite spot to work in the summer. But for now, Robin brings her office to the beach while Steve works on the boat. Not a bad spot for a midday coffee break… Back on Arabella, Steve preps the cable gland to organize the cords for Starlink, radar power, and the communication/power cables for the satellite compass, satellite weather, and radar. The cable setup has been a great learning experience for Steve, figuring out what’s going on and how everything is organized. Living on a boat surely keeps him on his toes. Steve runs through Arabella’s system. Everything is on its own breaker, so it’s really easy to turn navigation gear on and off depending on what’s needed at the time. Spring is here, sorta, so hopefully all of this gear can be put to the test out on the waters soon. Fingers crossed! Wir feiern mit unseren Verwandten die Weihnachtsfeiertage in der Schweiz, treffen ehemalige Arbeitskollegen und werden zu Nachtessen mit Verwandten und Freunden eingeladen. We take Zubenubi out of the EU to Tunisia for tax reasons.
Join us in this video where we share our experience of replacing the O-rings in the timing cover of our Volvo Penta MD2030 engine. If you've been dealing with an oil leak from the throttle lever arm, you're not alone. Tools and parts used in description....⬇⬇⬇⬇ We dive into the process step by step, tackling all three O-rings in the timing cover and even replacing the front shaft seal, which turned out to be surprisingly easy. While the job involved some elbow grease, it wasn't overly technical - making it accessible even for those without extensive mechanical experience. One crucial tip we learned along the way: when dealing with the injector pump, exercise extreme caution. Dropping the R clip into the engine can spell disaster. We secured it with wire before removal, a move that paid off immensely. Also, take care not to inadvertently bend the shims under the pump during the process. ⬇⬇⬇⬇TOOLS LIST BELOW⬇⬇⬇⬇ *We want to emphasize that we're not professional mechanics, and this video isn't a tutorial or a 'how-to' guide. It simply documents the steps we took in tackling this maintenance task.* Our primary references were the workshop manual and various online articles. One tool we found essential for the job was the Harmonic Puller to remove the pulley wheel. So, if you're facing a similar issue with your Volvo Penta MD2030 engine and you're considering tackling the repair yourself, this video might provide some insights and encouragement.
