We brought our teak deck back to life and saved 40k! https://www.sailingnandji.com For more information on the SIS 440 caulking and tools used, check out 👉 https://teakdecking.com/ We have hauled out to complete 3 major jobs before sailing across the Indian Ocean. The mast is out, the bottom is being blasted, sanded and filled. It is time that we fix our teak deck. Over the last month we had removed thousands of screws from the deck and epoxied in new caps. To bring the deck back to life, we remove all old caulking, sand the entire deck and install new caulking. The finished results are UNBELIEVABLE! We show you 10 important things we did to prepare our boat to cross the Pacific Ocean as we set sail from Patagonia to sail to the South Pacific Islands of French Polynesia and beyond! If you're planning a long or short sailing passage, there are plenty of good tips to keep in mind! #sailing #explore #riggedbymarlow Website & Blog: www.sweetruca.com Patreon: www.patreon.com/ruca Instagram: www.instagram.com/rucasailing Contents: 0:00 - Intro and about us - After rounding Cape Horn and sailing the fjords of Patagonia, we are preparing our boat to sail over 4000 miles across the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia. 1:59 - (1) Spare Parts - Carrying spare parts on board our sailboat for long stretches in remote waters is very important. We carry almost everythigng we need to repair our sails, electrical system, engine, and watermaking system. 4:09 - (2) New Running Rigging - After 18,000 miles of sailing and two trans-Atlantic crossings, our running rigging was becoming worn. We replaced our mainsheet and jib sheets with Marlow Grand Prix 78 10 mm dyneema cored lines. We also replaced our jack-lines and made a mainsail/boom preventer from Marlow D12 Dyneema. Dyneema will improve our sailing performance, decrease weight, and increase strength. 8:34 - (3) New Sails - Like our running rigging, our dacron mainsail and jib had seen a lot of wear after sailing halfway around the world. We replaced them with Evolution Sails Expedition Membrane sails custom designed for our boat by Andy at www.180sails.com (Evolution Sails Chicago. 9:17 - (4) Rig Inspection - We aren't afraid of heights! We made many trips up the mast, hoisting both Kate and Curtis to the top of the mast to look over every bit of our standing rigging to ensure there was nothing that would chafe or rip our sails and all the metal and carbon fiber bits were in good condition with no corrosion, cracks, or pitting. 9:56 - (5) Autopilot Maintenance - We rebuilt the autopilot ram for our B&G H5000 autopilot. We also show you the spare autopilot ram we carry, just in case we have an issue, as we rely heavily on our autopilot to steer the boat while sailing doublehanded across oceans. 10:54 - (6) Reliable Batteries - We had a LifePO4 battery failure (likely the BMS) as we sailed up the fjords of Patagonia, Chile. We sourced new batteries and replaced our existing 600 amp hours of lithium power with an upgraded drop-in LifePO4 battery system to ensure reliability as we sail across the pacific ocean. 11:39 - (7) Safe Environment - It is important when sailing offshore that the interior of the boat is set up well for people to move about safely. Our boat is designed to have good places to lean against and may grab rails. However, for our sailing dog, Roxy, it is more difficult to grip the glossy wooden floor. We installed rubber backed carpeting throughout the boat to assist our dog with walking and gripping in the large waves of the pacific ocean. 13:01 - (8) Food Provisioning - Food is double or tripple the price in French Polynesia vs Chile or the USA. We provisioned our boat with at least 90 days of essential foods to ensure we could save lots of money over the coming months. In case of emergency, we are prepared with many days of food aboard. 14:10 - (9) Fuel - Diesel fuel powers our 75 HP Yanmar 4JH3-TE engine, which also powers our alternator for battery charging when there isn't enough energy from the wind generator and the solar panels. We also use diesel if there is an emergency or we need to get out of the way of a large storm, hurricane, cyclone, or other danger! 14:49 - (10) Weather Routing - We carefully study the weather patterns in the Pacific Ocean, which are always changing due to La Nina and El Nino. We choose the best route to cruise across the pacific on our sailboat, avoiding upwind sailing, heavy seas, and dangerous storms. More about us: We are Kate and Curtis, sailing aboard our 46 foot long performance cruising sailboat. Sweet Ruca is a year 2000 J-boats J/46. Before selling our house and cars and buying a boat to sail around the world, Kate was a middle school teacher and Curtis was an entrepreneur. Before setting sail as cruisers both of us spent many years racing sailboats and have earned many trophies, including winning the Chicago-Mackinac race. We are experienced sailors who enjoy the feeling of a well tuned boat, and we love sharing the journey and inspiring you to get on the water. Like you, we watched youtube sailing channels before we left and hope to bring saling to you like other channels such as SV Delos, Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Nahoa, Sailing Uma, and La Vagabonde brought beautiful and relaxing sailing videos to our TV! Click subscribe and come along for the ride as we share our sailing tips, weather routing secrets, and boat rigging and re-fitting projects with you.

👩🏻✈️👨🏻✈️ Sosyal Medya📱 İnstagram: eleven11sailing Facebook: eleven11sailing Podcast: Eleven11 Sailing / Götür Beni Denizlere #denizdeyaşam #eğlence #eğitim #yelkenli #sailing #tekne #sailinglife #boatshow #sailinglife #yaztatili #göcekkoyları #denizifilmleri #yelkenlifilmleri #yelkenli #deniz #mavi #eleven #elevensailing #tekne #eleven11 #sailingeleven #koy #gocek #göcek #solo #solokaptan #hanseyacht #hansetekne #eleven11sailing #bilgi #amatördenizci #solohayat #tuzluhayat #tuzlusu #kadın #kadınkaptan #denizden #denizci #denizcilik #yelkenvideoları #teknedeyiz #turkuaz #açıkdeniz #kişiselblog #sailing #sailingkanalı #koylar #hanse #hanse455 #hanse460 #hanse458 #hanse510 #boat #yelkendünyası #yatdünyası #yatçılık #adb #adbehliyet #kmt #gezi #seyahat #geziyorum #türkiyekoyları #türkiyem #ülkemingüzellikleri #yelkenli_tekne #tatil #ege #akdeniz #tekgövde #monohull #adyk #amatördenizciyiz #flok #anayelken #fullarma #selftacking #otomatiktramola #tramola #kavança #alestayelken #tekbaşıma #tuzluhayat #deniztutkusu #hobi #yelkenhobisi #deniz #denizci #denizcilik #denizler #denizden #yelken #seyir #mavitur #fuar #bosphorusboatshow #boatshow #boats #fair #fuargezmesi #tekne #tekneçekimleri #tekneincelemeleri #triodeniz #motoryat #motoryachts #yatlar #yacht #yachtsforsale #yenitekne #sıfırtekne #yelkenli_tekne #samos #sisam #samosisland #yunanadaları #yunan #yunanistan #yunani #samosa #greek #pythagoras_theorem #pisagor #dahi #felsefe #dalgalar #stresli #ormos #marathokampos #yağmur #kokkari #vathy

A nomadic duo who traded land life for a life on the water. Follow us to see what we see and what it's like living a nomadic lifestyle. Currently exploring New Zealand but a big adventure is coming soon! In December 2021, we moved aboard our sailboat Te Tāiko, a Chico 40, and we have been fortunate to sail to many of New Zealand’s islands and anchorages. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. Our plan? We try not to make too many plans but plan to do blue water cruising. Whilst sailing New Zealand's northern coastline, we're completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills sailing New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #lifestyle #sailing #travel #sailinglife

Everyone is curious about summer plans, and as of now, Steve and Robin are waiting to see what happens in the next few months. Depending on how Steve’s mom is doing, they will either be heading north or staying local. While they would love to be cruising with Arabella, they want to be around for Steve’s mom. Thanks to everyone for your support. People definitely had some thoughts about the location of the fridge, blocking the engine and making it more difficult to access. However, Steve isn’t concerned. In a state of actual danger, the anchor could be dropped or the sails could be put up. Also, Steve does plenty of preventative maintenance to keep the engine up and running. Steve works on switching out the engine impeller, which is a great safety measure. While the fridge is out of the way, he also switches out the alternator, gives everything a good scrub, and cleans up Akiva’s hair… The good news? All of the pieces came out quite easily, and the impeller looks great. The bad news? Steve’s measurement of the alternator was off, so the replacement piece will not work. The alternator needs to be swapped because the original piece came with an internal regulator. However, due to the lithium ion batteries, the alternator needs to be externally regulated. The plan is to make some adjustments on the new alternator, and use some pieces from the old alternator, so it will fit nice and snug back in its place. Meanwhile, there’s packing to be done for a vacation! Robin’s mom had mentioned interest in the Wainwright’s walk, hiking coast to coast across England. The stars aligned for this trip, so Steve and Robin are off the grid enjoying a well-deserved adventure. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Learn how to sail a boat without a rudder and find out if the Baliwick abandoned the boat or made it to shore. We also provide information on how General Patton and his wife was a great sailor. Emergency rudders play a crucial role in sailing racing, providing sailors with a backup plan in case the primary steering system fails. In the intense and unpredictable environment of competitive sailing, where split-second decisions can make the difference between winning and losing, having reliable emergency rudders can be a game-changer. One of the primary reasons why redundant emergency steering methods are important in sailing racing is safety. Sailing races often take place in challenging conditions, such as strong winds, rough seas, and unpredictable weather. In such conditions, the risk of mechanical failures or damage to the primary rudder is higher. Without a functional rudder, a sailing boat loses its ability to steer effectively, putting the crew at risk of losing control and potentially colliding with other boats or obstacles. Having a well-designed and easily deployable emergency rudder system can provide sailors with a sense of security and peace of mind. Knowing that they have a backup plan in case of an emergency gives sailors the confidence to push the limits of their boats and their skills without fear of being left stranded on the water. Moreover, emergency rudders are essential for quick and efficient repairs during a race. In the event of a failure or damage to the primary rudder, being able to swiftly deploy an emergency rudder can minimize the time lost and enable the crew to continue racing without having to retire prematurely. This can be crucial in a sport where every second counts and where delays can significantly impact the final outcome. Furthermore, emergency rudders can also serve as a strategic advantage in sailing racing. Skilled sailors who are able to adapt quickly to changing conditions and make effective use of their emergency rudder systems may gain an edge over their competitors. Being able to maneuver the boat effectively with an emergency rudder while others struggle can help a team maintain its position in the race or even overtake other boats. In addition to their practical importance, emergency rudders also highlight the importance of preparation and foresight in sailing racing. A well-prepared team that has thoroughly tested and familiarized themselves with their emergency rudder system is more likely to respond effectively in an emergency situation. This emphasis on preparedness and attention to detail is not only essential for safety but also reflects the professionalism and dedication of competitive sailors. In conclusion, emergency rudders are an indispensable component of sailing racing, providing sailors with a critical safety net, enabling quick repairs, serving as a strategic advantage, and emphasizing the importance of preparedness. In the fast-paced and challenging world of competitive sailing, having a reliable emergency rudder system can make the difference between a successful race and a potential disaster. #boat #offshoresailing #boating #sailing #offshorecitizen #boatlife #worldsailing #spinlock @david_shih For Safety at Sea https://www.ussailing.org/education/a... ** NOW SOLD ** ‘Fidra’ is a 2006 Hanse 370e. Representing a hugely successful model globally by the German manufacturers, the 370e's still prove to be extremely sort after. The 'e' represents the epoxy used in the hulls layup making for a lighter / stiffer / stronger and virtually osmosis proof hull for life. Fidra is the two cabin option consisting of the generous owners cabin forward, good sized saloon opposite dual seating which doubles as the nav area, impressive head and shower (with solid shower screen), a big extended galley leading to the internal access to the storage garage (also accessible via the cockpit) and finally the second large double cabin. Fidra has enjoyed a huge list of recent upgrades. The cruising gear is genuinely comprehensive and makes the yacht ready for blue water sailing now – Fidra only recently returned from East Coast and South pacific circuit including Fiji and New Zealand. Just some of the recent upgrades include: • New sail wardrobe in 2022 by North Sails including new main, gennaker, genoa and staysail (all new headsails are furling, and the staysail uses a removable inner forestay). • New standing rigging 2021 including running rigging, carbon pole, and furler. • New Spectra water maker 2022. • New Sarca Excel anchor and chain along with new anchor winch 2022. • Big electrical upgrade including lithium house battery and associated new chargers and inverter, new solar charging system, Iridium Go and 5G router with mast top aerial, induction cook top, new auto-pilot unit. The safety package is impressive and includes life raft and lots of custom equipment. There is a Zodiac tender included in the package. The mainsheet is naturally controlled by the helm on an upgraded traveller. Being a Hanse she has a self-tacking jib track so Fidra can be easy set up to sail shorthanded. Maintenance history is refreshing with Fidra having been just anti-fouled in May 2024. Most sea-cocks were new in 2021. Manuals, invoices, and a detailed vessel details document are included. Fidra would suit those wanting to step onto a blue water ready cruiser or simply those seeking a well maintained very popular model. A huge amount of thought and research has gone into making Fidra safe, easy, and ready to go.

Sonrada kendimizi Karayipler’in efsane denizine bıraktık. Biraz korkutucu ama bence efsane bir sürprizle karşılaştım 😊 Bir senedir her suya dalışımda ‘acaba’ diye düşünüyordum. #catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #TobagoCays #grenadines #reef #oceanview Warning: This video contains images of THE LARGEST EXPANSE OF BEAUTIFUL WATERS YOU HAVE EVER SEEN. We couldn’t wait to get to Tobago Cays. Put it on your bucket list. One of our favorite locations in the Eastern Caribbean was the Grenadine’s Tobago Cays. Beautiful blue waters, superb snorkeling with a multitude of fish and turtles, sunsets and sunrises you never want to miss. It’s a sailors paradise. Tobago Cays is a protected marine park consisting of 1400 acre sand bottom lagoon around 5 primary cays – Petit Rameau, Petit Bateau, Baradal, Petit Tabac and Jamesby as well as the island of Mayreau and Horseshoe Reef. No permanent structures or inhabitants are allowed on the 5 cays. There is only one area on the north side of Petit Bateau where cruisers gather for a nightly lobster dinner organized by locals from nearby islands. The rest is pure and untouched by humans trying to make it “better”. Tobago Cays “boat boys” make their living helping cruisers with mooring balls, fresh produce, guided tours of the reefs and cays, boat maintenance and as I mentioned, the lobster dinner. Our first night there, we attended the dinner - along with around 80 other cruisers - and enjoyed fresh caught lobster with sides of rice and veggies. We were able to grab a mooring ball near Petit Rameau, out of the main traffic channel. The seas were a bit choppy during our stay, so launching the dinghy was a bit of a chore. We hiked to the top of Petit Bateau for the best vantage point in Tobago Cays. So beautiful, and it made us want to visit each little island. But strong surf was rolling in from the east, which limited what we were able to do comfortably. Snorkeling the turtle sanctuary near Baradal was a real treat! We did venture out to Petit Tabac, an idyllically perfect uninhabited Caribbean island with turquoise blue waters, white sand beaches, swaying palms, and reefs worth snorkeling. It was used in several scenes in the Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. It was the island that Capt. Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth ended up on when forced to walk the plank, then danced around the fire and drank rum before she set the whole stash ablaze. Tobago Cays is a major tourist destination with an estimated 3000 private yachts annually. Additionally, an estimated 10,000 people visit the Cays from cruise ship excursions, and private day charters from other nearby islands for fishing, diving and snorkeling. It took a lot of trials and fixings until we finally made it. We are supper happy with the result we got. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). On the season 4 we sailed for 2 years (exploring the Brazilian coast and part of the Caribbean), we sold our boat and we moved to Europe. In this episode Nicole walks through making the fiberglass puddy she has used to repair hard to reach holes in boat. the puddy is thick, moldable and reinforced with fiberglass so it is very strong. This stuff works!! Click link below to watch SAS Season 3 finale where bob ended up on Jetty rocks. https://youtu.be/S4EnnKLIyOk The boat yard who installed bow thruster used bondo and it cracked. But the fiberglass puddy and gflex repairs held. This time Nicole is using it to repair storm damage. #adventure #boating #sailing #gflex #fiberglass #puddy #hull #repair #damage #boat #transworld #bluewatersailboat #chesapeakebay #diy #womanwhoworkonboats #wwwob Edited by YouCut:https://app.youcut.net/BestEditor

Plant more trees - head to http://reelpaper.com/acorn to get 30% off your first order AND free shipping! Thanks to Reel for sponsoring today’s video! The crew spends the weekend getting projects done on deck and down below. After receiving their mission briefing from Steve, everyone gets down to business. On day 1, Bill works in the head tying the gray water tank into the vent for the composting toilet. Up on deck, Jeff gets to work on the aft hatch while David spends his morning chasing down leaks on the deck under the propane tank. There’s been a few issues with leaks on deck, causing water to drip on the dishes. On day 2, a bell vent gets attached to the aft hatch to allow for air flow and reduced condensation. Steve and Aaron start to wire in the hot water heater. Steve addresses a condensation issue in the hanging locker and forepeak. Condensation is building up on the bronze straps, causing problems for clothes that make contact with the moisture. The team adds a fiberglass reinforced panel to allow for air flow, which will help keep the clothes dry. Noah brings a pig sticker for Steve, which is meant for a flag. When set up on the masthead, it can double as a windex—a visual cue on which direction the wind is coming from. Getting to meet people in the community has been such a rewarding aspect of this adventure. It was great having the crew out for the weekend, catching up and spending time together. Of course, it was a huge help being able to complete a good chunk of the to-do list. Thank you to all who came out, and thanks to David and Jeff for organizing the weekend. Pretty soon, Arabella will be out on the waters doing what she was meant to do. Instegram: sailingjustwant
We try our hand at re-caulking the deck seams on our Bavaria yacht using Bosch and Fein power tools. A DIY job we've never done before.
We will be discussing how to care for and maintain cruising / racing sails. We will look at how they function and how proper maintenance can extend the life of your sails and canvas. We will also look at common problems and how to identify them and finally, how to know when it’s time to replace your sails.
This is the final stage of our double engine refit as we replace our old Yanmar 4JH4E engines with brand new Nanni N4.50s. We have built our own fibreglass engine beds, aligned both engines and now we just need to connect up all the fuel and water hoses and install new consoles up at the helm. We are so close to the end of this project and we can't wait to turn the engines on and see if they work!
