We are finally settling into cruising life, balancing boat repairs and exploring amazing new places! After landing in Ventura, we are happy to take advantage of the convenience of being at a dock and get some projects done. After we get all of our boat work done, we are so excited to head back out to the Channel Islands to do some more exploring! We sail across the Santa Barbara Channel into Prisoner’s Harbor on Santa Cruz Island’s North coast. From there, we head out to do some hiking and exploring in this beautiful, remote place. The scenery is amazing, and this is definitely one of our favorite hikes we’ve done in the islands so far. Oh, and we get a close up with the Island Fox, what a cutie! After exploring, it’s time to do some more sail repairs and set sail for a new anchorage… and snag a fish along the way, and figure out how the heck to fillet it! Check it out! The Museo Atlantico is the first underwater art museum in Europe. It aims to create a large artificial reef formed by sculptures made with neutral pH concrete that will in time increase its biomass. The fasilities include the work of Jason deCaires Taylor, highlighting the bond between art and nature allowing visitors to become aware of the importance of the sea and all natural resources. 2% of the income generated by the museum will go to sea protection and preservation projects. The Museo Atlantico will be completed in 2017. The museum currently has six different areas with contemporary areas. The Raft of Lampedusa representing the abandonment of humanity during the refugee crisis. A thought about hope and loss. All the sculptures are base don local residents of Lanzarote. Hybrids Merging nature and humanity living in harmony. These sculptures are half human and half cactus. From the moment the evenings are light enough up to the summer break some keen volunteers at Medway YC run a series of 9 races on a Wednesday night. We missed the start of the series as Sea Horse was stuck on the south coast and then school, wind and weather prevented Hannah and Izzy from doing most of the remaining races but the last race was great. Peachy, 10 knots from the south west and with plenty of that nice hazy sunshine that you get in the summer... all in all a great evenings sail.... and we won!! Every two years, since 1980, the Swan fleet has gathered at its spiritual home at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Sardinia for the biennial Rolex Swan Cup. Owners, crews and guests meet for a week of spirited activity on and off the water. 2016 will be a celebratory event, marking the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of Nautor’s Swan. 121 yachts have entered this, the 19th, edition, ranging in size from 36 (10.9 metres) to 115 feet (35m), and in age from 49 years to a few months. As always, this year’s Rolex Swan Cup will be characterized by great competition in an enviable environment, a prevailing spirit of fair play and yachts renowned for their grace, enduring appeal and rich heritage.
