Maverick Yachts Celebrates it 10 Year Anniversary with the launch of the Maverick 440 Equinox, hull #020, at the Cape Town International Boat Show in October 2017. This Maverick 440 has an all NEW Bimini which is higher, wider and has a water catchment system. This blue water cruising catamaran also has the 6 seat cockpit table that folds into a day bed together with another table that drops down from the Bimini to provide al fresco dining for 8 – 12 people in the cockpit. Other features of the yacht include a dive compressor and six dive tank holders, four cold storage units including a bar fridge and ice maker, Bose Surround Sound system throughout the yacht including speakers on the mast for the trampoline area, and all the requirements & equipment for long range blue water cruising. Finally also Varpu´s summer vacation started and we untied the lines and took course towards Uusikaupunki. On the way we stopped in Kustavi, one special harbour again. Now we will have about one week sailing trip and then we needed to come back to Turku because Varpu had to attend her friends bachelor party. Crazy to arrange such happenings in the middle of sailing season!

In Luang Prabang leben in den 86 Tempeln mehr als 1000 Mönche. Daher wollten wir gerne sehen, wo sich die Schule der Mönche befindet. An einem Tag gingen wir daher auf Suche und kamen nach vielen fälschlichen Aussagen doch noch an der versteckten Schule an. Unsere Hartnäckigkeit wurde belohnt. An einem abgelegenen Berghang der Stadt Luang Prabang befanden sich zwei neue große Schulgebäude, die wir ganz einfach betraten. Wir grüßten alle ganz freundlich und trafen schließlich ganz schnell auf einen 18jährigen Mönch, der sich mit uns sehr gut in Englisch verständigen konnte. Er gab uns zu verstehen, dass wir sehr gerne bleiben können und er uns gerne Informationen zu seiner Schule gibt. Für uns ein so toller Moment! An der Schule war insgesamt eine sehr entspannte und freundliche Stimmung und sie schienen sich zu freuen Gäste zu haben. Er erklärte uns, das in dieser Schule ca. 700 junge Mönche unterrichtet wurden. Zwischen 10 und 19 Jahren war es Jungen gestattet, diese Schule zu besuchen. Halloween is an odd holiday, right? Why do we celebrate it, and now that we know how bad sugar is for all of us why do we still hand it out to each other in small individually wrapped packages? It's fun. It's a fun holiday that for the majority of us is about play, community, and imagination. Not to mention it's a thing- it's what all of us do. I wonder what Halloween will look like over the next five to ten years. In the video I share what we do as a family for Halloween - spoiler- it's super mainstream. I know we could do Switch Witch or one of the many other names for it, however it’s just not for us. Sitting out of the fun is also not something we’re interested in. Every year I consider how we could be better around this holiday with what we give away or how we handle the candy situation and every year we do the same thing. I primarily wanted to get a video edited right away for Halloween just so I could use the Jerry Seinfeld clip to explain where I’m coming from on this. Like Seinfeld demonstrates, at times I feel like my kids are too fixated on candy- especially from October 31st through December 25th. How do you handle candy in your household? PS. In this final video in the Autoprop H6 rebuild, the blades are re-attached to the hub and bolted in place. This is a critical step in the re-build and one that should be done with care. If the taper roller bearings are put on backwards or the locking mechanism for the blades not fitted correctly, the blades could come away from the hub. Carefully following the instructions here will guide you to the factory approved method of installation and ensure a beautifully working Autoprop H6 propeller

We’re in Ibiza and all the hard work, stress and tears are all forgotten for a while as we have a moment for some much needed reflection over way too much sangria. It’s hard to beat going ashore on your dinghy to a little Spanish restaurant for lunch and over looking all your dreams floating at anchor in the bay below. But then of course as it to be expected in our lives it all goes crazy when the head sail furler breaks and we can’t put the sail away. We end up having to drop it on the front deck and head for shore to make repairs. The joys of a new boat! When the Genoa furler was fitted it seems that the retaining screw was cross threaded so worked itself loose. Luckily in Dave’s vast array of tools he has bolts and a tap and dye set to fix the problem. “Fixing things in beautiful places” is said to be the definition of cruising around the world and after only a week, we completely agree already! But once we had our issues sorted, there’s no better way to unwind than with a few drinks in Blue Marlin and dinner with friends. It was an arduous sail for my son Seb to get La Graciosa, but once there he was cured of his ills. Together we discover another part of the island and prepare for another day long sail to Isla De Lobos. A beautiful journey along the western coast of Lanzarote. It wasn't without excitement as the sea, wind and waves were in good Canary style. Seb was definitely cured and took on the challenge as a proper sailor.
