Something she probably would have enjoyed a little more had she not jumped out of the dinghy a few feet early, mistaking the clear shallow water for land. We also our dinghy through a channel which led through a set of mangroves, all the way from our anchorage out to the cruise ship island of Great Stirrup Cay to north. It was questionable if our fuel would hold out for the 5 mile trip, but in the end we made it back, and with some great views along the way. When winds began switching from NW to W, we knew it was time to leave and head to the other side of the island for a more protected anchorage. We fought the winds and beat for a good portion of the trip, but were rewarded with Kool-aid blue waters and stunning surroundings upon our arrival. Cheers from the Bahamas! Raki is an alcoholic beverage of Cretan origin. It is made by distilling of pomace that were pressed for the winemaking process. The pomace is kept for about six weeks after the grapes have been pressed, in a tightly-sealed barrel, and then the fermented mash is distilled. Typically each Cretan village has one or two residents who are licensed to distill, and Raki is produced continuously for two or three weeks in late October and early November.

Ankündigung unserer heurigen Reise mit dem Katamaran Squib von Giechenland nach Südfrankreich wo der Mast gelegt wird. Über Flüsse und Kanäle soll es weiter bis Wien gehen, wo Squib über den Winter umgebaut und renoviert werden soll. Leider hatten wir in der Straße von Messina Motorschaden und konnten unsere Reise nicht fortsetzen, mit einer funktionierenden Maschine segelten wir zurück nach Griechenland. Aber Aufgeschoben ist nicht aufgehoben im September beginne ich den Maschinentausch, im Juli habe ich eine gebrauchte Maschine in Österreich gekauft, nächstes Jahr sollte es dann mit der Reise nach Wien klappen. Ich habe jetzt einige der geplanten Arbeiten vorgezogen, heute wurde das herausnehmen der vorderen Trennwand fertig. This 685nm delivery will be with our great friend Mick , Owner and Skipper who unfortunately has to leave wife ‘Pep’ behind to take care of their ailing Dalmation ‘Prince’. In this episode we cover the first few miles with little power, something we find out to be fouled propeller problems. So, we drove from Hampton to Annapolis, Maryland to check her out, and now we are officially the proud new owners of MoonShadow. Although the key turned over the new Yanmar beautifully, there is still quite of bit of work that needs to be done before she is truly seaworthy. We are fixing her the best we can, while making lots of messes and learning an insane about the boat along the way! In the end, we make enough adjustments so she's ready enough to sail and start our journey back down South! Next stop, Reedsville , Virginia for that fresh new paint job!
